Just finished reading Dragon Age: Asunder.

Light DAI spoilers:
Been on media blackout with Inquisition, and someone posted earlier in this thread that Cole is a companion. Wish I didn't read that, but nevertheless really excited to see what they do with him, considering the epilogue of Asunder. It'd be cool to see if Eva and/or Rhys make an appearance in DAI, that much I've managed to avoid having spoiled at least.

Thinking about reading through Masked Empire over the rest of the weekend. Monday 7AM can't come soon enough.

I'm having a hard time seeing the resemblance
I have been pondering if I should say anything because I agree. I felt very weird for not seeing anything of Clarke in that when others called it amazing. I don't see it at all :p The nose is wrong, the mouth is wrong, basically the whole face is.. nope. I don't see it.

Aw come on man, it's even got the same facial expression as the character in the show! I've only seen a couple episodes of GOT but the second I saw this image I was like "oh look it's the dragon milf'.

Hey I'm not trying to ruin the fun or anything, I genuinely can't see it. I'm the one among my friends who usually notices facial similarities between people first so it was just a bit surprising to me.

The facial expression is very close, though

I actually never played through Legacy, so I started that this afternoon and I'll wrap it up tomorrow. One thing that killed me was when you run into this one guy, he's all (DA2 main story spoilers), "
I knew you'd get here, Hawke, and you brought the whole family!
" referencing
Bethany, but it's kind of a dick thing to say because of Carver and Leandra
. And the best part is I don't think he even realized it.

Started Dragon Age 2 yesterday

I haven't left Kirkwall yet...

But ^that^ might be the funniest thing I've heard today (no offense, M.D.)

Having just finished it this afternoon, all I can say is: Do it. Definitely feels like a prelude to some important events that could crop up in DA:I.

The first time I saw the pic the first thing I thought was also GOT. It don't have to be an exact copy to remind you of the character. It just need a few characteristics, it's how a lot of character creator celebrities work. Though some just look spot on like the Jessica Alba Skyrim mod*.

About the novels, do you guys think reading them are essential to understanding DA:I or is the summary on a wiki enough?

No way man, I CANNOT allow you to disagree with the accepted opinion that this is a pretty good likeness. I'll take this fight TO MY DEATH!!!!!!!!!!

Eh I disagree. I knew it was Daenerys before I even saw the caption.

The novels are side-stories with some nice extra material to expand on the games' lore. If you're completely new and trying to catch up, don't worry too much about them.

Not completely new, have spent around 250 hours in DA:O and near 90 in DA2 but if they are only side stories I'm good, thanks.

Having just finished reading Asunder, which takes place after Dragon Age II, I don't think it's a necessary read, but definitely helps flesh out the state of world leading up to Inquisition, and I'm excited to see what, if any, characters from the novels pop up in Inquisition.

Asunder sounds interesting. I might go pick it up and and try to finish it this weekend.

How many books are there in total? The only other one I've heard of is The Masked Empire. How does that, along with any other novels, fit into the timeline?

If it's any help, Masked Empire is really good (I liked it a lot) and sets up a few things about the state of Thedas in DA:I, but of course it isn't necessary to play the game at all.

Before reviewers were getting their copies, there were fan-theories about the big bad
being set up by Masked Emprire
. And I would expect character first introduced in Masked Empire to show up in DA:I. Also, Asunder is around 30% about Cole.

Masked Empire takes place around the same time as Asunder, so immediately before Inquisition. Where Asunder deals mostly with mage-templar stuff and Cole, Masked Empire focuses on the empress of Orlais, her main servant/
lover
, her cousin who attempts to usurp her, and
the eluvians
(Masked Empire spoiler). Personally, I found it to be really fantastic, and not just as a book based on a video game.

360 footage. Looks surprisingly solid, aside from the obvious low-res textures and horrible hair.

Not only that, and I do not even know if it is due to the Youtube footage, but the frame rate seems to be steadily on the 20-25 range and the pop-in is quite abysmal.

I hope allot of people can still enjoy the version but god it does not look great.

I have access to the game via EA Access on Xbox One.

For anybody who cares about performance, it runs surprisingly great on XB1. I ran it via capture equipment and get a solid 30 fps, and graphically it looks great.

Yeah, they were both shockingly good.

I really hope DA:I takes after the DLCs in terms of its boss battles. The final fights of Legacy and MotA were astoundingly awesome to play (IMO). I kind of like the more gimmicky fights, though, rather than the 'here is an HP sponge/giant thing that you hit a lot' ones. My favourite fight in the main game was the Act I final battle, due to the (albeit simple) way you used the environment in it.

Asunder and The Masked Empire both take place between the second and third games.

If you want a story about the Mage/Templar situation, go for Asunder. If you instead fancy the far superior* world of Orlesian politics and Elf-relations, read The Masked Empire.

*I may be slightly biased.

Thanks for the info. Just looked at Amazon and they say Asunder is 415 pages and Masked Empire is 381. Not sure I can finish both before Tuesday.

Also, there was another novel called The Last Flight. How does that fit in?

I thought the fight with
Corypheus
could get a little frustrating with the pathfinding at times.
