Dragon Age: Origins |OT| Letting The Fade fade out of memory

Quick question: I haven't had a ton of time to devote to gaming this last while, and while I'm loving Dragon Age, I haven't been able to put in the time and effort to learn the intricacies of the classes. So, my characters are all around level ten, but so far every time a character has gained a level -- and about half the times I've gained a level myself -- I've gone with the auto-level-upper.

Is this really, really, really going to screw me over in the long run? Like, can't-beat-the-game screw me over? It seems like if that were the case it wouldn't have been an option in the first place. I know it's the opposite of power-gaming, and it means I'll likely never have a party that operates like well-oiled gears, but am I going to completely ruin the game?

Are you playing on PC? If so, you can respec all the characters. If not... well, yeah, that will probably make the later parts of the game harder, though they sho0uldn't be unbeatable.

Nope, PS3. Though so far, I've only run into one situation where it's really been an issue -- when I had to control Morrigan on her own against an enemy she was ill-equipped for. A quick drop down to easy for the battle got me through it, but I'm wondering if I'm going to see stuff like that happen later in the game. I've heard the game is hard, which is why I'm wondering if power-gaming is really the only rational way to go at it.

IIRC that is one of the only two points in the game where you don't have a full party (and that one is optional). The other one is very easy and you can use the strength of dialogue to get through it. Other than that you shouldn't have BIG troubles later on... the console versions are easier.

As long as you're playing on normal it really shouldn't be an issue. As long as you use a well balanced party you should be good to go. Out of your group of four, one tank and one mage with crowd control type spells should get you through the game without too much heartache.

Probably going to start up this game sometime soon. Question when playing with the character editor - while I usually always go hardcore fighter/berserker type in my games, I'm thinking of going mage this time. Elves would seem to make the better mages, but looks like I'll have to be human if I want to also have an awesome beard (which I do). Are humans much worse than Elves are? Can you make up the difference between the +1 and +2 base bonuses to magic? Should I just go ahead and try to make a balls out offensive human warrior berserker anyway?

Nah just go with a mage, they are terribly overpowered in this game. The racial stats aren't really important at all.

The racial bonuses are pretty much irrelevant. Just choose the race based on your preferences or what origin you want to play.

Hey all, I bought the game for me. Its really awesome once you get the hang with quests and classes.

So far my setup is having my Human to tank (Champion, Sword/Shield maxed)
Alistair is a Bersereker/Templar with 2H, but when needed can switch back to Sword/Shield
Zevran is a Rogue with 2 weapons maxed... dies to much imho. I should give him more Consitution maybe?

And in the end there is Morrigan... saved my ass countless times. BUT she is now getting really shitty: there is why. She doesn't have the healer option. Where do I learn it? Shit, I really want her to become my primordial/healer.

Also I'm level 16 with everyone and I'm in the dalish area. Last quest before the Landsmeet. Is the lvl ok?

What is the difference between defense and armor? I know Morrigan has the highest defense in my party but armor is like lowest next to the other mage.
What would I need to have a proper tank?
And how to get that 250 damage trophy. Some reason I checked out my stats and Leliana has the highest attack damage at like 378. Like wth!?

Zevran is either attacking the wrong targets, or is pulling aggro from you. Look into picking up stealth and feign death

Healer specialisation can be picked up either from Wynne (requires character approval) or from one of the traders (at Denerim)

Level should be fine i think, as there are still a few main quests to be done after completing the 4 major quest hubs

If you are getting the PC version you can give your elf a beard with the toolset pretty easy.

I decided to restart as I never actually finished it (stupidly wedged myself into a boss battle I was never going to be able to win) and I'm playing as an Arcane Warrior and I have to say it completely owns. On normal difficulty I'm completely devastating everything in my path while Alistair cries for help.

Does anyone have any tips to make my Leliana not suck so much? I'm using her as a ranger but I don't feel like she's contributing much to the group which consists of sword + shield 'not exactly a tank' Alistair, Wynne for healing and Leliana as a ranger just because I feel like I should have a ranged attacker. Perhaps I should just switch her out for someone else? Although my choices are really only her or Zevran otherwise I'll be leaving a wake of unopened chests. Zevran gets on my tits though.

I dunno. My Leliana does the most damage out of everyone including me. My max so far is like 267, while hers is 517. I kept pumping her dex and she is using
her butt buddy's bow

This game keeps kicking my ass, I'm at level 11, and I've played 25hrs. Maybe I've been doing too many side quests, but at the same time it doesn't feel like it.

Does the game scale the levels of enemies in relation to you?

Yeah, I think so. But access to new skills and spells should make it easier, though. Crowd control is king.

I got some stupid spells from the start, so I have suffered the consequences. So it's been a lot of pausing and "strategic" actions. Strategic in quotes only because I really have no strategy other than doing the same spells over and over.

Mana clash on an enemy mage usually results in over 800 damage.
On my second playthrough i made that skill tree a priority
wipe out there mages in one quick casting move and its pretty much a cakewalk

The game has some scaling, but each major area iirc has a overall min / max level to it. As mentioned once your mage character gets some of the big crowd control spells, the game becomes a lot easier.

I bought Battle of Ostragar and beat it, can I still do the chest trick to upgrade the quality of the armor / weapons I got there?

Damn, I watched my brother playing and was shocked that "dead" characters with skeli icons aren´t dead at all. Whenever someone "died" I quickloaded and started the fight from the beginning. It´s still ingrained from playing so much Jagged Alliance 2 and never wanting someone to die. I made the game harder for myself. Fuuuuuuuuuu!

Now my question, can I copy my save from the old 32-bit vista machine to my new 64-bit W7 monster? I haven´t used the download content, if that helps. Haven´t used/created an EA account, either.

Well, if anything, DLC might have given you problems across different systems, but since you didn't use any... Going from 32 to 64 bit doesn't matter.

The final boss battle in this game is epic. The Archdemon lore was good to like there were 7 Old Gods of the imperium and this was only the 5th. I love the reasoning behind why only grey warden can defeat the archdemon it made them appear to be actual dieties you were fighting in the end. Blood blood blood the power is in the blood.
That final blow were my guy drove his mallet into the archdemon head bringing him down and then he shouts killing
that bastard of a god dragon fucking epic. I'm on my 2nd playthrough now with a City Elf/ Duelest/Ranger

Did I mention i love this game now, I love how open ended the battle are. I only wish there were two archdemons and more dragons overal to fight. I put like 70 hrs in my first playthrough:D :D :D :D :D :D

Which path did you guys choose/think is better?
Letting Branka take the anvil or destroy it?

Let Branka
keep the anvil
you get Golems and Dwarves. I also had Templars who were in short number like 15 but they were like special force just badass.

I can't wait for DA:Awakining and hope Bioware release Return to Ostagar for PS3 soon. I hope the game run alittle on the PS 3 aswell

I figured as much. The story seems very predictable as who ends up turning into what.

I'm currently as landsmeet. The game will probably end soon.

What are the different ways for the endings? When do I have to make these choices? I want to make a save and get them in a short span instead of replaying the game if you know what I mean.

One big change is your decision during the landsmeet about Loghain. So make a save before you go to it, pick both options. You'll still have to do the whole fighting the blight thing over again to get one of the endings. Other ending impacting fork is after you've prepared for the final battle, before you go back to your room to rest.

Yeah. I'm doing my ending run now.
Just finished with Loghain living and him sacrificing himself. Now I'm working on Loghain dying and Alistair knocking boots with Morrigan. The conversation with Alistair; trying to convince him to sleep with Morrigan is worth playing the game alone. :lol This game gets really good endgame. I can't wait to see what the sequels are going to be like. Not the expansion pack. I'm willing to bet the child will have some kind of significant role assuming a male warden sleeping with Morrigan would be the default storyline. Last battle was meh though.

With regards to the potential sequel
assuming that they won't follow in Mass Effect's footsteps and you won't be transfering saves then I wouldn't be susprised the canon storyline will be Morrigan getting her hands on her devil baby one way or another. If it's set 20 - 30 years in the future would be interesting if in the sequel the main character is that child. There are a lot of roleplaying possibilities that go along with being a demi-god ala BG2.

Or like the spirit eater in Mask of the Betrayer.

That would be awesome. I think its safe to say that
Morrigan's offer and what comes of it
will definitely show up in the sequel, how big of a role TBD.

I'm pretty sure
there is more to Morrigan and even Flemeth than revealed. It's obvious a character of that caliber isn't just going to die in one game, especially one with such a history. I can see Flemeth coming back and trying to do something with the child and Morrigan gets involved. I don't think they would make this a huge part of the end without some type of future involvement.

Yeah. I've beaten the game twice and got the perfectionist thing. Yet, I've heard there are four endings.

So my girlfriend started playing and made a mage. Holy crap, it's hard playing a mage on a console - or so it seems. Having only 6 quickspell slots is crippling - does anyone have any tips to overcome this hurdle?

The first time I played the Fade. I thought it was awesome but quickly after the third time I thought to myself fuck this shit.

The skip the fade mod
was release yesterday I have not tried it yet but I will start a new game today. The only unfortunate thing you lose from the description is you miss out on the XP, but you get everything else you would have gotten.

Get it here
http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=816

edit its been updated you still go to the fade but now you only have to save your companions and fight the sloth demon. you still get all the att points and codex entries, now you get to earn some xp by fighting the boss.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
So I finally got around to picking this up after so much skeptism due to it being another fucking Tolkien fantasy RPG, and though I'm still not convinced I'll be able to stomach it entirely just yet, it seems pretty cool so far.

Thoughts that have probably been expressed before, but my first time impressions were;

a) Holy fucking shit does it suck to go from Mass Effect's lead character to this. Voicing your lead = godsend.

b) Did BioWare really have to bump map a cameltoe on my lady?

Otherwise so far so good. I got it cheap as chips (~AU$25) so I'm not fussed if it doesnt blow me away.

I bought it last week and didn't have any issues with it. It's located in the same spot as the rest of the DLC. Buying it through the game sends you to Bioware's online store where it costs 400 points ($5). Afterward it downloads and you have to enable it to show up in game.

You can buy it from here as well:

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I'll have another look. I think what threw me is that I went in-game and looked at available DLC and it didn't list anything at all. I'll mess around with it tonight though.

Pause with the left trigger and use the radial menu? I don't even use quick slots, and pause so I can queue up everyone's actions

I believe dex is still broken for bows, pump points into STR or CUN if Rogue.

This was originally posted in the Dragon Age Origins: Awakenings Trailers thread but I figured I'll post here anyway. It's a comic of a cut scene that was cut from the final game. End game spoilers so avoid it if you haven't finished the game.
Specifically it relates to Morrigan's "offer"

Pretty cool imo.
