Dragon Age: The Veilguard Sold Worse Than 'Star Wars Outlaws' In Europe

Games Industry Head Christopher Dring revealed sales from GSD that states that BioWare’s Dragon Age: The Veilguard sold worse than Star Wars Outlaws.

In an episode of the GamesIndustry.biz Microcast while discussing how poorly new games have sold compared to previous years, Dring shared, “Star Wars Outlaws was the 14th best selling new game of the year, but No. 45 over all.”

Next, he stated, “Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which came out at the end of October, that was No. 19 in the best selling new game chart, but was No. 68 overall.”

Dragon Age had the market to itself and it couldn’t find an audience,” he continued. “And that’s really scary as we move into the following year.”

He made similar commentary about Star Wars Outlaws, “Star Wars Outlaws sort of had the year to itself and it didn’t find an audience and that’s a real shame.”

The next Mass Effect will fail as well. They are disconnected from the primary audience for console/PC videogames(Hetero Men). In the past the likes and dislikes of the developers aligned with the audience. At some point for them it has changed. The only ones getting punished for it is them, not us. Good videogames to play are a dime a dozen.

It’s funny how none of these ‘sales analysts / reporters’ seems willing to share a point of view on why these games both bombed spectacularly
It’s because the reason why these games fail is inconvenient to their worldview. Jason Schreier was ready to gloat about the game’s supposed success to own the chuds, but when that failed to materialize he deleted the tweet and went radio silent.

Yep. I just remembered those Jason tweets. Plus Dring and Mat went full Sweet Baby Inc defense force after SBI called in their press industry friends to defend them. Big Ls for them all year.

These DEI games are eating dirts one by one.

Avowed, Assassin's Creed: Shadows are next....then Yotei and Intergalactic in the next 1-2 years

Yotei will be fine. The same way Witcher 4 will be. This isn't about games having female protagonists, no matter how hard some people want it to be.

It's about not making games that appeal to your core demographic. And even actively pushing them away.

0 sympathy. My sympathy for them is in the negative. Mass Effect 3 was the most disappointed I've ever been with a game, and the whole thing felt like such a betrayal. So that alone was the nail in the coffin for me. But then you had Andromeda, Anthem, and Veilguard. And with Veilguard I was long emotionally removed from Bioware by that point. I never played the game, have no interest in it. But I think Veilguard is an even bigger betrayal to the fanbase than ME3 was. That game is such a far cry away from what Origins was, or even Inquisition for that matter, that it's really not even funny.

They're lost their talent, they've lost the plot, and now they've lost the goodwill of the fans.

In the words of Rambo:

Someone fixed the actresses model in Star Wars Outlaws and it already looks 100% better. I am officially on the boat of Game Developers lack skill and optimization and are being heavily influenced by outside "sources".

With the way it panned out, I'm not surprised. Dring shouldn't be "scared". He should acknowledge the glaring faults it had and that the market responded to those shortcomings.

Maybe its time he recognized that and came to terms with it. Perhaps the average consumers aren't all that easily persuaded as he thinks they are.

Yeah. And these western failures will keep on coming. There are games coming out that started development 5+ years ago when things were a bit different. They’ll all be flushed out in similar ways unless they’re tweaked to align with the current times. Games starting full production in 2022 will likely come out okay unless the creative heads have their heads stuck in the sand.

Didn't even recognize that, but if all "woke" games were likes this i wouldn't have any problem with that.
Yeah same here no issues with that.
But there were some red flags pre-release with a developer standing there with a rainbow T-shirt talking about modern audience. Maybe they changed things before release?

As far as i know SBI was involved, but it seems the devs let they/them just make some coffee/sandwiches instad of ruining the game. I'm pretty sure companies like SBI don't give a fuck about their ideologies as long as they get paid well.

The effects of the "wokenisation" of games/media is now starting to get impossible to deny. The defence force for the woke shit not being a factor in disastrous sales has always been "then why TLoU2/Spider-Man 2/*insert woke sequel of a blockbuster here* has been a success?".

The answer to this question was obviously to lot of people years ago yet, and was that people didn't knew these games would have been so woke, since them was sequels of super well received and super successful games that come out before the woke wave.

Even like that, the disappointment of the fanbase has been loud and now than the pattern of wokenisation in a game is obviously to anyone that is honest with itself, the effects starting to be devastating. That's why even games that seems impossible to fail (Intergalactic) have to worry, because people are making clear that they are full with this shit, and not just on Neogaf. I've been impressed on how the same question spreading here have been anywhere on YouTube/Facebook/Instagram/TikTok too. Let's hope for a brighter future now.
