I have a task for you. Flip your story around and tell me why we say manga when its literal English translation is whimsical pictures and it's definition is comic? Perhaps because... it... implies the Japanese style? As... seiyu implies Japanese voice actors? Anime(taken from the Japanese pronunciation of animation), manga, Seiyuu all support and popularize each other with their unique Japanese influenced terms.

Coin up and admit you and the other guy just like to bitch about trivial things.

hmm I never really thought of it. I suppose because I was introduced to Japanese comics as manga and never read comics before in my life.

I have no real good reason for using manga as opposed to comics but I don't really care to correct myself as I don't give a damn whether I use Japanese or not. Sure I like to bitch about trivial things, but if I didn't would we ever notice these things?

I don't understand why they don't just make a new series for us :(

Because people will complain about how it doesn't live up to its name? I love the idea of going back and retelling the DBZ story without filler.

Sooooo, what's the basic idea here? Are they going to compress 3 episodes into 1?

Or are they going to try to follow the manga chapter for chapter?

They're probably going to be following the manga down to the letter, meaning we probably won't see any episode that has little contribution to the main plot (ie. about half of the original Saiyan saga that was broadcasted). If the episode list is true, then we've already cut down on about one episode, with many more to follow.

I think I could cut the entire Dragon Ball Z series down to 26 episodes. If it's really 100 episodes or whatever it doesn't give me a lot of hope they've cut it down much at all

...what? Do you realize how many episodes there were originally?

like 300 right? but at least half of that was silence and staring at each other and grunts and shit
if you think about it, there was a lot of shit going on. there's no way 26 episodes is enough.

maybe 50? but 100 is definitely fine.

Do you know how many villains are on DBZ? They'd have to kill one every single episode, no training, no side story just one character after another.

Goku would be Super Saiyan by episode 5!:lol

26 episodes, wtf? You'd be changing to a different villain every other episode :lol
Even the joke abridged series wouldn't manage the entirety of DBZ in 26 episodes :lol

So, realistically, what will we be looking at here? The end of the first episode, where would that be, death of Raditz?

Yeah, I hate the word "seiyuu". When people use it they usually imply they're different or better than American voice actors. They aren't. They've just Japanese voice actors. You really don't need to specify that they're Japanese. I think their names give that away.

Unless you're a Japanophile or anime elitist, of course. In which case leave it. I just don't get the point of using Japanese words if you speak English. "That cat is so kawaii!" It just sounds bad.

Yeah I hate that too.
It sounds pretty stupid in my opinion.

I can't wait for fansubs. It should be easy for the people who's subbing.

I know one group who's already planning to have it within a couple of hours :)

Is it an hour or 30 mins long (the show)? I'm using that keyhole tv thingy.
30 minutes, followed by One Piece at 9:30.

Yeah, they do realize that the show is being re-recorded, right? All the narration, as well as a good portion of the dialogue may be drastically changed. It won't just be a "slap DBZ subs on and we're done" type deal...

And it's on Fuji TV.

As someone said, you'd be dealing iwth a new character/villain every episode

Raditz
Nappa
Vegeta
Cui
Dodoria
Zarbon
Guldo
Recoome
Jeice
Burter
Captain Ginyu
Frieza
King Cold
Android 19
Android 20/Dr. Gero
Android 17
Android 18
Cell
Dabura
Babidi
Buu

an extremely rough and generous list of the villains in DBZ. To be fair, some of them are extremely minor (like Cui, Guldo, King Cold, and Android 19), but still, :lol @ cutting DBZ down to 26 episodes. As someone said, they'd be fighting anew character every episode, practically
