I don't think its rewriting the movies. Just fleshing out what happens before and after. As its a continuation of the movies.

I hope there's an arc where Mr. Satan accidentally gets sent to another universe, and when they find him it turns out that it's a universe so weak that he's genuinely the strongest person there.
I'm cool with that, or with alternate Mr. Satan being crazy-powerful and the main villain of an arc.

i hope there's a universe where Piccolo fused with all the namekians and is the most powerful being by so much that Kid Buu would be crap bext to him.

i just want piccolo to have some glory again. his arc is still the best part of the whole DB story.

This sounds so awesome, how long till we get a
d

version, after the episodes aired...I think i will be dead until this show will air in germany....

I don't ever expect a female going SSJ, we've kinda seen how most if not all women in the show end up and it's always stay home mother. Even if they're first a threat.

This is what bothers me about Super and the new movies, it makes the end of z non canon or the contrary, why would Goku be excited about fighting with a scrub tier like Uub when he has Vegeta, Wihs and Beerus.

I think they will recton the end of Z in this series and act like nothing happened which I don't mind the end of Z was meh

Uub being erased from canon is fine with me.

Uub died as he returned to his home village.

Havent got a problem with retconning Uub if you ask me...

I really like the idea of "lets get over there to Universe 6" what if the numbers arent only like we count universes but more like a ranking...so Beerus universe can move up the ladder with Goku and Vegeta

New Message from Toriyama,

A story in the universe next door? Gigantic "Super Dragon Balls"? The past two movies made into "arcs"?!?!

Get HYPE!
Here's the full translation (may be worth putting in the OP as a series synopsis):

“Dragon Ball Super” is a complete continuation of the Majin Buu story arc. It’s got a bit of post-battle aftermath, continues with the “Battle of Gods” arc where the God of Destruction Beerus appears and the “Revival of ‘F'” arc where Freeza comes back to life, and then, I’ve written a strange new story where they finally depart from this universe. They’re fighting against their neighbors, Universe 6! They’ll yell at me if I give away too many spoilers, so I’ll keep the rest a secret, but they’re chasing after giant Super Dragon Balls; I think things will unfold in a bright and simple way, that will be really fun and exciting!

Since it’s another universe, loads of new characters will turn up. I’ll do my best to draw the tons of character designs necessary, so I’m looking forward to this too.

You know, it suddenly occurs to me that somewhere along the line the Dragon Ball anime has become quite a huge story. Since I’m the guy who drew the thing, it’s a bit weird for me to say this, but when I first started out I never dreamed it would have a universe as a setting (laughs). Don’t worry though, it’s still going to be the same sort of easy-to-understand content as always. Please be sure to watch Dragon Ball Super on TV!

The movies aren't filler... They are completely canon.

I know they are Canon. But i consider it Filler to retell the Stories of two recent Movies.
I wanted to watch DBS because i wante to see new Adventures from Goku & co., not because i wanted to see again what happend lately.

Yes but do we actually have any idea how many episodes it'll be? It's unlikely they'll be about thirty episodes a piece, isn't it? It'll probably be rather brief and just fill in a few gaps, add some new moments.

Guess I should finally get around to watching that Battle of Gods Blu-Ray.

NEW DB WOOOOOO

No need to, the first two arcs are rewrites of BoG and RF.

Considering that they are already talking about what happens after RF, they've introduced Champa who seems to be from Universe 6 and Dragon Ball Heroes is already going to have a "Super Beerus" story added two weeks after DBS starts I don't think we're going to be in BoG and RF for too long. 10 episodes max I think.

They really should skip most of RoF, aside from maybe Goku and Vegeta's training. Freeza's return and defeat seems completely irrelevant in the end.

Considering they are rewriting them they could make something important happen that forces them to go to Universe 6 for the Super Dragon Balls.

We don't know how much Episodes will be spent on it, but Toei is not the Studio i would trust to do something like that quickly.

I think they will spend maximum 10 Episodes on both Movies together

So when Dragon Ball finally gets a new anime series they're going to retell stories that have already been told? It just feels like such a gigantic waste. I thought the success of the two recent movies was a huge reason Dragon Ball Super came to be and now they're retelling the same movies?

It just completely boggles the mind as to why they do this. So now we have to sit trough two story arcs to finally get some completely new material.
And it wouldn't surprise me if the series fails to catch on because of this. I know my desire to watch it has dropped like a rock now.
So sad :(

They're only covering those two movies for the very beginning and then moving on to a new plot...

I'm guessing they are doing it because not everybody watched the new movies and they want to make sure that everybody is caught up to speed.

Reasonably speaking, they aren't going to do two Namek length arcs recapping what happened in two hour and a half movies.

I prefer them to retell the stories honestly. It makes things much simpler and establishes a much clearer timeline of what's going on. You also shouldn't have to watch the first ten episodes, stop to watch a movie, watch five more episodes, then stop to watch another movie, then back to the show. Plus I can imagine there are still a lot of people who haven't seen the new movies or new viewers it becomes much easier to follow as well, also gives the opportunity to pace things better most likely.

That is purely speculation, we have no idea how long the two movie arcs will be.
Hopefully they will be short but I could also see them dragging them out to fill out the series, saving Toriyama from having to come up with too many new storylines.

The fact that they're already talking about what comes after Freeza makes it pretty clear that we aren't staying with those movies for too long. Hell, the series even gets its name from the Super Dragon Balls of Universe 6. BoG will be the Raditz equivalent and RF will be the training for the Saiyans equivalent.

You seem awfully sure of yourself.
The fact is we don't know how long the movie arcs are yet, as I sad I hope they are short but we'll just have to wait and see.

Nice thread, OP.

I'm not initially thrilled with the "retell the movies" arcs, but I guess it could work out okay. It may actually give them the chance to extend the fight scene/improve the choreography with God Goku vs Beerus, which would be great. But in the end, I'll happily devour whatever content they offer, I'm sure.

Can't wait for this weekend.

Yeah, that doesn't sound cool.

And it seems this more or less confirms that the two latest movies are non canon now. We'll that was faster than I thought.

The movies are still canon, lets not twist their words.

They are just retelling the movie event in the anime this time. The core plot points will still remain the same.

So essentially the show is gonna be a filler version of the movies....

So bummed.

They only said the movie plot will be made into arc. They didn't say these are the only arcs in DB super.

This alternate universe stuff seems almost straight out of some fanfic. Excited for new Dragon Ball though. I remember when 8PM was sacred and I'd drop everything to go watch DBZ

The first two arcs are expanded retellings of the last two movies, and then they move into new territory when Goku & co. travel to Universe 6.

Not necessary the first two arcs. They might squeeze in an arc or two in between the 2 retelling of the movie arcs too.
