because gohan is the more intelligent better developed character who has more going on in his life than WHERE IS MY NEXT BIG FIGHT, GOTTA TRAIN FOR MY NEXT BIG FIGHT!!!!!!!

Gohans entire character up until the Cell saga was to be a bland goody two shoes who would throw glorified hissy fits and deus ex machina his way to helping the heroes win. He wasn't exactly much better. Gohan only became an interesting character once he became an adult.

No clue, I'm guessing he will have to save the world at least once during Super.

I thought he was well utilized in GT. Uub fighting him was great. Watch Mr Satan gets the shit kicked out of him, you'll never guess what happens next.

Haven't seen anywhere if this will be simulcasted or if we'll just need to wait for fansubs

Funimation still has two "super secret" simulcasts to announce for their summer line up. We literally finally just got the first solid description of what the show actually is so maybe today Funi will announce that Super is one of those two shows.

so if I understand correctly, Battle of Gods and Revival of F canonically take place during the beginning of the Dragonball Super series?

Maybe in the alternate universe all Super Saiyan
Gods
are girls.

Female Super Saiyans would be extremely welcome. Like, when Xenoverse is the first time I've personally seen one, and it's my own create a character, then that's not great.

and this series takes place after gohan became an adult.
thus why I said people would want to see more of him because he is the more interesting character.

personally I would love to see more gohan and videl stuff, but as I said earlier in this thread, I wouldn't be surprised if gohan was basically written out of the story once they go to other universes (it would at least make sense character wise but he might be popular enough that they will have videl go "I don't care that we have a newborn child that could use a father, my daddy is rich and bored so he can help and we can use money to fill the gap you will make by leaving me, thus you should go with your dad because "insert random big bad will destroy the earth if other universes aren't traveled reason""

But he's gotten weak, boring and nerdy. A show focused on him would be a snoozefest. Goku lives to fight, DBZ is about fighting.

People have said that they originally wanted to have Pan be Super Saiyan in GT, but decided not to because they couldn't decide on a good design, since Super Saiyan is, you know, such a complex and difficult design.

I don't know how true that is, though.

This is a very american thing in my experience, in South America we started with Dragon Ball and then Dragon Ball Z, most people understand this story is about Goku's journey since he was a very small and innocent kid. Gohan was never meant to be the protag, most of Gohan's fans started with Dragon Ball Z first and they got the (wrong) impression that the show will be about this little kid surpassing his dad and becoming the strongest warrior since that is usually how these shonens go, and that is how this shonen goes too, a little kid surpassing his dad and becoming the strongest warrior but the Kid was Goku not Gohan.

dbz is about fighting
this is db super now which could expand out and become about more than fighting.

while one piece is inspired by dragon ball, it vastly outdoes dragonball in arc design. One piece allows most of the cast to have a big moment in every arc allowing even the weaker characters to feel important, and making the threat more than just BIG POWERFUL GUY NEEDS TO BE DEFEATED.

now I am not expecting db super to be a masterfully written story with radical changes from the dbz formula, but it would be great to see the arcs designed more where the other characters could be more useful rather than just being there to comment about how awesome goku or vegeta is. You could easily design a threat that involves the z fighters (will they still be called the z fighters?) to have to split into some groups and have each group do something important with a big vegeta fight right before the end of the arc which is of course ended with goku vs the big bad.

with this type of setting gohan could still regain his fighting form and become decently powerful, but instead could use his intelligence as a weapon as well and be less about brawling it out and more about figuring out how to stop the problem at hand and being able to brawl it out when need be.

like I said, I know this is unrealistic hope, I already know this series is going to be introduce big bad, goku gets beaten down, goku powers up, goku beats big bad, and repeat over and over again with next big bad, but one can dream right lol.

and I never disagreed that this is going to continue being the goku show, I just wouldn't mind more gohan.

also looking up stuff I didn't realize that toriyama said if he made a new db series it would star mr. satan or that he dislikes vegeta lol.

How can anyone hate Mr Statan?

A guy who does nothing, takes all the credit for other people's hard work and then badmouths the hard working people?

I have known plenty of people like that in school and work. And I hate that attitude.

He has save the earth on multiple occasions without him cell and buu would have won.

Gohan could've gone SSJ2 by watching one of his friends die. 16 helped a lot, but seeing a Z-Fighter die would've made Gohan much more bloodlusted.

Buu, yeah everyone was fucked if not for Satan. Or they could've wished Gohan there and wipe the floor with Kid Buu.

I found DBZ extremely dull around the Frieza arc and Mr Satan was a big part of the series becoming fun again for me. Him befriending Buu is one of the best parts of the series.

He moonlights as a superhero with his fianceé/wife. Dude's got it made.

was this confirmed as cannon somewhere or just in movie 12 (I think it was)

I mean i know videl ran around town as a hero anyways, thus I am more asking if she put on a mask and cape as well in cannon or just uncannon stuff.

This needs to happen.

It was weird in the movie how it's like "Yeah SSJ3 Goku can't touch Beerus, but SSJ2 Vegeta is really pissed off though!"

Yea but isn't SSJ3 just garbage? I mean you burn out all your energy for a short burst of power. If I recall correctly aside from the last DBZ movie, had ANYTHING significant been done in SSJ3 form? I am pretty sure Goku defeated Buu in SSJ2 form.

Well, wasn't that actually the original plan? I'm rewatching DBZ and it seems obvious that they were dropping hints of Gohan's potential since like the first handful of episodes. I think in the last DBSuper (DBS looks weird to me) thread someone mentioned that toriyama actually was going to have him be the one to defeat Buu, no?

That's not really how Goku's arc is, though?

I never got the issue over Gohan, he became the hero to save the world from Cell but he's just not the type to take over from his dad. I actually liked how they had Goku find Uub to replace him.

do you think they will visit an alternative universe where yamcha and gohan are the strongest fighters?

we already had the universe where gohan was the strongest z fighter.
he then got beat up by androids.
was the darkest timeline for a while.
and then some underwear dude traveled in time got more powerful and brought back the light.

now this is the darkest timeline

No one but the Saiyans are gonna be relevant again. =(

I'd like to be wrong and Toriyama makes every character super awesome in Dragon Ball Super but it's just gonna be a Saiyan show.

I am expecting most of the old characters to be irrelevant except Goku, Vegeta, Goten and Trunks MAYBE Gohan. But I am hoping we at least get some cool new characters that can be relevant if Universe 7's humans still suck.

Gohan is shit, but I completely agree with the idea.

It's just an anime filler/movie thing, but it makes too much sense not to be true in my heart.

SSJ3 is a literal joke, like most of the Buu arc's concepts.

I'm waiting for the final villain of Super to be a
Multi universal threat that can wipe out all 12 universes. Goku than beats him with the multi universe Genki Dama.

Toriyama painted himself into a corner through power creep making it really hard to have a show that was not training -> fighting -> training -> fighting.

I want this to be good. But we are talking about the company handling One Piece, aren't we? Evereything I have seen about recent stuff was bad drawing and bad animation.
Ugh.

They need to find a way to increase the scale of the fights, they pretty much peaked during Frieza.

Do a retcon that says god ki lets you breathe in space.

Don't worry, we'll get a ton of new and powerful characters from Universe 6 to replace all the worthless characters we have in Universe 7!
