Dragon Ball Super |OT2| June 12: Judgment Day

That's my single greatest moment as well, simply one of the most hype things in Anime period, but right behind that has to be the Father-Son Kamehameha. When Gohan unleashed his power and was walking forward towards Cell, it was just so fucking awesome. Made my younger self go ape-shit.
Cell Saga was so great, might watch my Season 5 Blu-Ray over the weekend I just got, and read the Cell Games after that. I need to Season 6 lol.
The involvement of Gotenks with the Revival of F stuff is really weird.
In the movie version, Goten and Trunks are just nowhere to be found. I always figured that was their way of not know how to deal with Gotenks if he was involved in the fight. Theoretically, SSJ3 Gotenks would fuck everyone up besides Freeza, assuming he's still just a step below Mystic Gohan in power.
In the TV version, SSJ Gotenks actually does show up. And he totally fucks up that strong henchman dude with a single headbutt, which is pretty hilarious since no one elses attacks even phase him. It's like a small nod to the audience. "Yeah, Gotenks is still super fucking strong. We gotchu."
Only thing is... with Goten and Trunks in the picture, wouldn't someone like, say, Piccolo, suggest they come to fight this Freeza army? Surely they realize that family man Gohan isn't the warrior he once was, and Gotenks is actually by far the strongest warrior on Earth?
But nah, he enters the battle with like 30 seconds remaining on his fusion and delivers one blow. bah.

Well for Goten and Trunks it's easy to assume Frieza would go straight for them due to them being the kids of Goku and Vegeta. Frieza couldn't give a shit about Tien and Roshi

Now that you mention it..... Yea. They are like two wasted character slots on a fighting game roster (filled with blanka and a cloned blanka).
He should have made them grow up a little, and have a sort of rival story or SOMETHING FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

Speaking of "AF designs" being bad, it really just depends on what "AF" you are talking about. Because there are several. The initial concept (and bad art) came from some Italian magazine IIRC. It was just a joke/for fun. This however is good art, and fits right along with DB stuff.

Which is precisely my point, actually.
GT was not good. However, I think a large majority of their designs along with the SS4 design was really good. In fact it's been said many a time already, here on GAF by many people.

These still look pretty bad. The random long spikes are especially annoying. These are just way too busy.
And I think all of those people are out of their mind! I find SSJ4 utterly repulsive.

The same face becomes a real problem by this point. This could be any combination of Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan.

That's definitely an opinion I do not agree with. Which is fine. And this is no more busy than SS3, which it takes influence from.
I don't think anyone who likes this is out of their mind. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. I am glad Super Saiyan 4 still gets attention in other media (both official and unofficial), like Heroes.

I used to like SSJ4 a long time ago, but it just looks ugly as hell to me now. The colors are just so garish, the form would would honestly look a lot better with a simple palette change. I like the Golden Oozaru a lot more, I wish that was SSJ4 . . . Man I also wish there was some way to get back to the great ape in this series. I just love them in DBZ, they felt like Godzilla kaiju, breath weapon and all. But I don't see that ever happening.

Saiyans already have too much hair. Having even more hair in even more places on their body seems like it would be a huge disadvantage in a fight. It's the reason I don't really like SS3.

Super Saiyan 3 has fewer, but larger spikes that are also a lot softer looking, it looks a hell of a lot more organic than those pictures. The bangs and the random long and thin spikes make it look extra dumb.
Super Saiyan 3's design already borders on terrible, those AF fan arts push it over the edge.

Wouldn't that be due to Toriyama's art style, though? Maybe I missed your point.
On this level, I don't see how. Especially considering most characters have tails, and capes and other things hanging off them. I don't see how that, and specifically body hair is now suddenly a tactical advantage. Maybe in some other manga or the real world, but not Dragon Ball.
Again, that is your opinion. There has to be another way for you to express that without trying to pass it off as some kind of factual view.

Yes! Techniques, not transformations, please. I want some clever-ass fights, not a bunch of grunting until they transform into a bigger form, and then more grunting until they transform into a small, sleek form.
God that looks awful. It's as bad as the SSJ4 design. It just screams "over-complicated". It's got all the drawbacks of SSJ4 with a long random spike that is hilariously bad.
I'm not against new transformations at all but they need to be more simple and subtle. SSG was a great way to introduce a new transformation. SSB not so much but it's better than SSJ4 & SSJ5.

Case in point:
If these two designs were in the show at the same time, I couldn't even tell who was fighting. Even SSJ4 avoided this issue.

Vegeta and Gohan have the same face. Trunks and Gotenks have the same face. Not saying what you are saying isn't true, but that is a situational thing. And the above two images I posted have;

It's my opinion that the person who came up with those designs doesn't have a grasp on cohesion or style and doesn't understand the simplicity of Toriyama's designs.

Neglect Oozaru sure (although I'd still like it brought up once more!), but at least bring back the one thing that separates Saiyans from Humans!
That is fine. I'm going to disagree, and also state that these designs are based on a post GT world, and not the "purity" (which I don't feel all of AT's designs were simple, in the least bit) of Dragon Ball's.

In the movie, it's just said that Goten and Trunks were too reckless, which makes complete sense considering the mess that they made in the Son Goku Returns special, and that was facing someone weaker than themselves.
Also, the only hit that they get in Tagoma is a comedic surprise attack, so it's hard to say how strong they're even supposed to be in comparison to Tagoma and the weakened Gohan. There's a line from Gohan in Super about Tagoma being as strong as him at his peak, which would make him stronger than Gotenks SSJ3, in spite of that scene.

I miss Wrath of the Dragon Trunks. He look slightly older and had the famous sword. It was the right step. Shame it's not considered canon.
