What a great fan-pleasing announcement. Not only do multiple platforms get access to the game, but they're able to give people options depending on what incarnation of DQ they love (PS4 for DQVIII fans and 3DS for the classic feel).
I really love the way they both look. My only main concern right now is how the hell am I going to have time to play both versions of the game?

Why not? It launches next year and if they manage to make it a launch title for the new Nintendo system, that's HUGE news for both Square and Nintendo.

The event was for Japan only. They did not mention anything about other markets, nor were they expected to.

Good old days = only dq7 and 8? That was the only era when dq was on playstation that vast majority of time it was on Nintendo systems and recently phones.
Glad to see DQXI will be on all 3 of those systems will get both versions if localized

Im saying because the console itself is still unconfirmed..theres technically no real information on it other than its codename. Since square said this its kind of like them making smoke.

Are people really asking of the PS4 version will be localized. The vast vast vast majority of PS4 console sales are outside of Japan. Of course it will be for a mainline title.
Oh, I'm looking forward to the PS4 version as well. It looks great and I'm definitely picking it up whenever it hits Europe. But the reason I like Dragon Quest so much in the first place is because it's traditionally an old-school RPG that is not just following the modern conventions of the genre. There aren't a lot of "pure RPGs" like that anymore and DQ fills a very specific need that I have.
It's not that I don't like RPGs that try new things, but that's just not why I like Dragon Quest.

I'm guessing my only hope of getting the 3DS version here is for Nintendo to pick up the localisation.
That said, if any version was going to come west, it would be the PS4 version. Right?

I feel like the fact that they're willing to mention NX at all is a pretty big vote of confidence for it. Still feels weird that they're noting it'll be on a system that hasn't actually been announced LOL

Question, they localize DQXI for PS4 ... that means that they have an official translation ... could they not just use it for the 3DS one, too? Story and stuff should be the same in both versions.

So happy to see DQXI on home consoles. I'll probably be able to play the 3DS version on my phone some time in the distant future too.

I'd assume overseas markets is the reason the PS4 version exists in the first place
L5 said they were working on a new PS4 game. Was supposed to show up at E3 so I'd expect it at TGS.
Unless sony does the localization or same if nintendo does it.

I come from Europe, games used to get translated and then released in the US and not here. I can't help it.
Too early to speculate.
If Nintendo and Sony have interest, both will come. Easier to do it when it´s not a MMO.

he didn't give a time frame on it right? I dunno, mostly Verendus pulls through, he does say some of the stuff can change because he mentions things in early discussions. But it's not hard to imagine some ports of DQ will come to PS4 now with all the other titles announced for it.
Shadow Hearts would be very very cool though. Loved the spin-wheel battle system in that.

I wonder how close the games are in regards to game mechanics and exploration. If it would be worthwhile to go through both games.
There's really no reason to worry about the PS4 release. I'm sure that one reason they are making a PS4 version in the first place is to appeal more to the western markets.
Here's hoping that the 3DS version will see an international release as well, though. I would be sad if it's not coming over.
At least you could import a US version for once.

Translation is like a third of a game's localization process. Also that's assuming there won't be any differences whatsoever between versions as far as events and content goes, which we can't say yet.
It really came out of nowhere, after everything had been done/said about it. I know it's coming to PS4/3DS, but them mentioning it coming to NX was probably the most noteworthy thing about it (the next being 3 different styles IMO) because DQXI is now attached to this mysterious thing no one outside of the development community has a clue about.
It's not a thing you see happen too often, especially for a Nintendo system.

I wouldn't say silly. But while I initially liked it, afterwards I found it really distracting. I'd rather have an option in the menu to switch between 2D or 3D mode. Not both at the same time. Heck have a toggle between either or both for all 3 options
