Gadabouts are as miserable as ever but they're the only class that can naturally change into the very very good Sage class at Level 20. Thankfully there's an item that lets you do that from any class as well (and I hear there are more of them in this version), so you don't necessarily have to go that route.
You get new abilities for recruiting enough monsters for the Monster Arena (like at 10 monsters, then 20 monsters, etc, although I'm not sure if that's the exact amount). One of the best for me was Call of the Wild and its later stronger version, Monster Pile-On where you deal 4+ solid strikes randomly across the enemy team. Works good with mobs and with bosses, and seems to ignore high-defense (except for Metal Slimes of course).
Monster Wranglers also are good at recruiting most any monster in the wild without scaring them off.
Sages are great. Mages typically have the offensive spells plus some buffs/debuffs, Priests have the defensive spells plus other buffs/debuffs, Sages get the best of both worlds (although if it's like past games, they may lack the very best/last spells from Mage/Priest). Plus they have very good stats across the board and solid equips.
You don't have to get a Gadabout though;
around the time you can reclass, a nearby dungeon
contains a one-time use item that can reclass any of your characters (besides Hero) into a Sage.
I've never played the original. A few reviews I've watched decided to not talk about the story to avoid spoilers. To me, that suggests that it's either good or they're dodging it.

So i guess he doesnt do much until you unlock the arena, got it. Guess I'll keep him benched and sub out a thief. And yeah I know about the gadabout. Tbh i prefer 'goof-off'
Nope only DQ11, got fully neckbearded into that game
Love the art style and music of these games.
I’m feeling cozy, homey. SH2 is sadly borked on ps5 pro so still waiting on a patch. Dunno if stalker 2 is my thing and I think it’s Xbox exclusive so don’t have access
Combat speed is god send. On normal the combat speed is REALLY slow and not because of long animation but rather there is a long pause between each action.

Lame that you have to put it in Framerate mode on Series X to hold it at smooth 60fps. I wouldn’t think it’s that demanding of a game. But the constant jitteriness in towns and open areas was noticeable. Not sure what the resolution is in Framerate mode, looking forward to DF coverage.
I was able to get it to recognize 2560x1440 by swapping over to windowed mode, then back to full screen. Very buggy, and it looks blurry/scaled in this mode. Really hope we see some mods come in and fix this mess.
Question. If you level up a class and then decide to switch to a different class, do some of the abilities from your previous class carry over to your new one?

If it follows the old DQ3 formula, you retain half your stats and your spells/abilities.
Btw the stat system is basically, each class has a set stat cap table by level, if you're below the cap you can get huge increases when you level, if you're at or above the cap then you only get 0-1 per level. So don't worry too much about stats, the only thing that really matters is getting high agility on some of the slower classes or maybe high strength on a caster. And you can always make up for it with seeds. I remember in the NES version I used to spend hours rerolling characters for high starting stats and it didn't even end up mattering lol

What have they done with personalities? Are they still there? I didn't really like that on the SNES, felt like something I could only make sense of using a guide.

Well you can only swap classes at level 20 so generally you don't really want to swap too much. Generally you'd start as thief or fighter/martial artist(fast) and swap into soldier (slow) or sage/priest, priests are really good to have go fast since if they go first they can get a critical heal off quickly if your entire party is low.

They're still there but both genders can use all of the personalities so women aren't at an advantage any more
*Edit* they also vaguely tell you what each personality does in terms of stat growth when you roll for it
I'm trying to choose between this and Unicorn Overlord, but I am worried that the very basic leveling system in DQ3 Remake will bother me. I understand it's a product of it's time, but I'm so used to more in depth customization by now.
