I play kind of off and on. I started a new character two months ago so I have a lot of catching up to do to get to my old character.

Of all of us in this thread, I think Kanann and Shouta play the most right now.

Okay, sent friend invites to Aeana, Johntv, Shouta, and Megalosaro.

Megalosaro, if you haven't done it yet, I recommend checking one of the sites with present codes (like this one).
Many don't work anymore, but I got 27 超元気玉, 5 元気玉, etc. by checking them.

For whatever reason launching the game with my gamepad disconnected completely reset the gamepad settings and I had to reconfigure them from scratch after being surprised that nothing is bound as it should. What was even weirder is that when I had "wireless controller" selected in the menu, the character movement was all weird. Anyway, everything is good now and I can enjoy the game.

Themes for the heads up. I'll check it out.

Which server are you playing? I think most of us play on 33?
Currently just jumping on the first one, since it says that it's for beginners. Since characters aren't tied to the servers, I might start playing on another one later if that's where people are.

Edit:
Got to level 11, my Zoom Stone and I'm currently doing the story. I'm glad that like with most MMO games where getting low level crafting materials is kind of a pain, the value of early items you can pick up isn't terrible - I just made 1200G just by selling a few pieces of cotton and red coral.
So far moving between locations is taking a bit too long for my liking, since all the monsters are running away from me, but hopefully at one point I'll get that board people were talking about earlier.

Switched to server 33 too. Don't see any difference, because so far I've seen whooping 2-3 people in the starting area, but I bet it'll matter later on.

Going to play more tomorrow.

I haven't played in a few weeks because of Persona 5 and building a new comp. I'll accept the invite next time I get on.

Once you befriend people, you can hire them as AI partners regardless of level, and for free. A really big boon to having friends!

I probably have to get out of the starting town completely before I can do that, right?

Yeah. You have to clear a quest first. I think it was quest 31? You get it from the pubs. First pub is at the first major town after the starting area.

If I recall, the quest is pretty easy. Took me like 5 minutes. For what it's worth, ai party members are free to hire until level 30. But watch out, the inn prices sky rocket. Plus you can't kick out dead party members

This game looks really fun. do you guys think it will ever come over here? instead of having to get around the ip lock to play it?

Ideally that would be the case. In my heart I don't think it will though.

That's why I imported it. I would day one buy it if it were brought here.

I forgot since it's been so long since I tried the trial now, but does this have furigana? I'm in a real DQ mood and have been looking into trying this again, but my kanji-knowledge is terrible :/

If you haven't logged in to the game after 10:59 AM JST on November 10th and your account isn't currently active, you should be eligible for the free comeback campaign which starts after the Monday's maintenance.
Details in Japanese here.

I seriously need some in game friends to be able to rent NPCs.
Last time I played I sent invites to a couple of people, but after logging in today thanks to the comeback campaign, a flurry of "X hasn't replied to your invite" messages greeted me.

If anyone is still playing, here's my info: ハセモ HT470-479

I can add you when I get on. I didn't see any invites when I checked on my end though.

New Martial Artists 160-180 skill is so good. 15 seconds of free 100 Tension is so much damage fast.

I'm currently making my way through the ver 1.0 content. Since you can just warp to story dungeon entrances even if you haven't visited them before, the whole thing is going really smoothly and getting one emblem takes about 30 minutes.

With FFXIV (and I believe XI), new areas, stories etc. felt significantly better than what was in the base game. Is this also the case with DQX? To be honest zones feel a bit bland so far, but I'm not sure if that's because of them being old or is it a side effect of the art style.

Huh, I didn't know they added warps. Do they offer that as part of the story, or is there somewhere you go for that?

You need to remember that DQ10 is a Wii game. So it's never going to look as visually detailed as FF14.

Areas will get a little more complicated and better looking in the later versions. 3.0 has some amazing looking areas and 2.0 is no slouch either.

I think I added you yesterday Hasemo. I should be on Superstar though I sometimes go to a damage dealer like Beast Tamer or Martial Artist

Oh sure, I'm not expecting a jump to XIV, just something like areas in expansions being higher quality in general, like it happened in online FF games. I wonder if they'll drop the Wii (I guess Wii U won't be going anywhere for a while) with the version 4.0 expansion, like they're doing with PS3 and Stormblood for FFXIV. On the other hand, I feel like they're pretty good with working within the limitations of the systems.
My only real complaint is that objects look really bad further away and they change to full details when near, despite playing in maximum details. I guess it might be a Wii limitation.

As for the warps, when you open the menu, you can press X on the (360) controller to show a map with the target of your next story mission. Usually when you press the confirm button, you can just jump to the nearest warp point, although it doesn't work sometimes if they want you to take a walk (happened once so far).

I wonder if this feature is just there for the version 1.x content or will it continue up to 2.x or even 3.x

Oh, I just noticed that. Thanks!

Finished the version 1.0 story today with high level NPCs. While I enjoyed the stories in most cities and the general experience felt like a proper mainline Dragon Quest game, I don't think I would've done it if it wasn't for the easy story warps and NPC helpers.

I feel like the game suffers from the MMO syndrome of making most areas big "because that's how MMOs are", while there isn't really a reason to do it. Long corridors in a dungeon with a few enemies here and there don't make it feel majestic, more like a pain. The same can be said for cities in the game - when I was playing it for the first time, I stopped after reaching the capital city of fish people, just because even walking between stores felt like it took much more time than it should.
I could understand it in a game like Lineage 2, where you could have tens if not hundreds of players on the screen at the same time, but since DQ is doing everything with Wii limitations in mind, it's a different story.

Complaints aside, I'm glad that they streamlined the main story as much as they did. I probably won't get into 2.0 right away, but the game was still a fun experience. Except for the tedious parts, but that's kind of comes with it being a MMO.

Do you have a vehicle? (The segway-type things.) I forget what quest it is you get that, but it changes the game entirely. Get that, then do the quest to double your fuel, then the world size becomes much more tolerable.

I did that as soon as possible (didn't know about double fuel, good to know ;) and it definitely made fields much better.
The problem is that you actually spend a fair amount of time in tosns and dungeons, where mounts can't be used.

That said, if it wasn't for the mount, I wouldn't have continued playing past the first big town, so thanks to you (or Aeana) for recommending me the mount in the first place.

Seraphy is too much popular, I don't know why. Do Japanese like a kindness but dump Hoimi slime?

But 2nd is Yuusha-sama and 3rd is a weirdo :)

Since we're reaching level 99 soon, I'm wondering if maybe version 4 will have us start over on a new character. The sibling, or a dragon tribe member.

Asfeld school has its own character and level too.

Shouta

Dragon Tribe member would be welcome, finally. lol

Material runs for 3.5 are really easy so I'm making money at a decent clip right now. =o

New 96 hour comeback campaign has started. People who didn't log in since 01.16 are eligible - link.

Good timing, since I was just thinking about giving episode 2 a shot.

Hey friends. Figure I'd come here and ask per the suggestion of Hasemo in the Dragon Quest Community thread. I wanted to know a few things, so I have a few questions.

- I believe there is a translation of the offline mode of the game made by fans as a patch. Does anybody know if that still works? Does that only apply to the JP version?
- Assuming I cave and get the game now, I believe the title is IP locked, or at least the JP version is. How would one be able to reasonably circumvent this without investing money into a VPN?

I'm actually willing to get the game just for the offline stuff if that's in English, for I don't know a letter of Japanese and have zero faith Square-Enix will ever bring it over. I know I am aiming for the really low end part of the game (the offline stuff is less than 25 hours of content...), but I really don't care. :p

Hope someone can help me out, here.

Renewed my subscription yesterday and spend some time on side quests unlocking useful features, because I skipped most of them when I was rushing through the 1.0 story.

Magical Maze or whatever the name of that random dungeon is was one of those features and I wanted to ask more seasons players if those are actually worth doing daily.
The enemies weren't that strong, the exp was so so, but maybe those purple chests at the end can have some amazing drops?

The translation that's available is only for the first offline part, which you don't even have to buy the game to experience. There's a trial you can download that includes the entire initial offline part, and I believe the patch works just fine with that. There's not that much to it, though. It's just an introduction before you go online to play the game for real.

As for playing it via a VPN, you can get a free year of Amazon Web Services and use one of their Tokyo instances. That's what I do.

The magic maze is good for meeting random people, for getting 2-3 daily lottery tickets and for using coins. With metal king slime coins you can level rapidly, with boss coins you can get powerful accessories.

You can also rarely meet Torneko, Meena, Kandar and Terry. Torneko sells items, some only available with him. Meena tells your future, which gives you a bonus effect that lasts for one to two hours. Kandar has some minor present item and Terry can defeat a coin boss for you. He will deliver the price when you meet next time.

Encounter rates for these characters is super low. You can raise the rate somewhat with a guiding perfume but meeting Terry still is super rare.

Thank you for the explanation. I played late at night yesterday and sadly no one joined my party, so I just rolled with the NPCs they provided.

Had no idea about DQ characters popping there, that's a cool thing. I don't expect meeting any of them anytime soon if the pop rate is low.

I've yet to get/use any coins, but I'll look into that.

By the way, if anyone is still playing, here's my character info if you want to add me to your friends: ハセモ HT470-479

The offline part includes both the tutorial and extended offline campaign starring
the player character's child?
IIRC, both were translated.
