Currently just jumping on the first one, since it says that it's for beginners. Since characters aren't tied to the servers, I might start playing on another one later if that's where people are.Themes for the heads up. I'll check it out.
Which server are you playing? I think most of us play on 33?
I probably have to get out of the starting town completely before I can do that, right?Once you befriend people, you can hire them as AI partners regardless of level, and for free. A really big boon to having friends!

Wow, they made that free? Didn't even realize that, hah.Once you befriend people, you can hire them as AI partners regardless of level, and for free. A really big boon to having friends!
This game looks really fun. do you guys think it will ever come over here? instead of having to get around the ip lock to play it?
Oh sure, I'm not expecting a jump to XIV, just something like areas in expansions being higher quality in general, like it happened in online FF games. I wonder if they'll drop the Wii (I guess Wii U won't be going anywhere for a while) with the version 4.0 expansion, like they're doing with PS3 and Stormblood for FFXIV. On the other hand, I feel like they're pretty good with working within the limitations of the systems.Huh, I didn't know they added warps. Do they offer that as part of the story, or is there somewhere you go for that?
You need to remember that DQ10 is a Wii game. So it's never going to look as visually detailed as FF14.
Oh, I just noticed that. Thanks!Areas will get a little more complicated and better looking in the later versions. 3.0 has some amazing looking areas and 2.0 is no slouch either.
I think I added you yesterday Hasemo. I should be on Superstar though I sometimes go to a damage dealer like Beast Tamer or Martial Artist
Do you have a vehicle? (The segway-type things.) I forget what quest it is you get that, but it changes the game entirely. Get that, then do the quest to double your fuel, then the world size becomes much more tolerable.Finished the version 1.0 story today with high level NPCs. While I enjoyed the stories in most cities and the general experience felt like a proper mainline Dragon Quest game, I don't think I would've done it if it wasn't for the easy story warps and NPC helpers.
I feel like the game suffers from the MMO syndrome of making most areas big "because that's how MMOs are", while there isn't really a reason to do it. Long corridors in a dungeon with a few enemies here and there don't make it feel majestic, more like a pain. The same can be said for cities in the game - when I was playing it for the first time, I stopped after reaching the capital city of fish people, just because even walking between stores felt like it took much more time than it should.
I could understand it in a game like Lineage 2, where you could have tens if not hundreds of players on the screen at the same time, but since DQ is doing everything with Wii limitations in mind, it's a different story.
Complaints aside, I'm glad that they streamlined the main story as much as they did. I probably won't get into 2.0 right away, but the game was still a fun experience. Except for the tedious parts, but that's kind of comes with it being a MMO.
I did that as soon as possible (didn't know about double fuel, good to know and it definitely made fields much better.Do you have a vehicle? (The segway-type things.) I sent you an invite, just in case I jump back to 2.0 soonFor whom that didn't at me yet

I play almost everyday since 2012 and will go on until the game end of service.
I've been wondering wth that outfit was...
FFXIV and DQX are the money makers for SE from what I understand and the PS4 version should give the game a nice boost - not that surprising, I guess. So we're definitely getting a Version 4, huh?
Hey friends. Figure I'd come here and ask per the suggestion of Hasemo in the Dragon Quest Community thread. I wanted to know a few things, so I have a few questions.
- I believe there is a translation of the offline mode of the game made by fans as a patch. Does anybody know if that still works? Does that only apply to the JP version?
- Assuming I cave and get the game now, I believe the title is IP locked, or at least the JP version is. How would one be able to reasonably circumvent this without investing money into a VPN?
I'm actually willing to get the game just for the offline stuff if that's in English, for I don't know a letter of Japanese and have zero faith Square-Enix will ever bring it over. I know I am aiming for the really low end part of the game (the offline stuff is less than 25 hours of content...), but I really don't care.
Hope someone can help me out, here.
Renewed my subscription yesterday and spend some time on side quests unlocking useful features, because I skipped most of them when I was rushing through the 1.0 story.
Magical Maze or whatever the name of that random dungeon is was one of those features and I wanted to ask more seasons players if those are actually worth doing daily.
The enemies weren't that strong, the exp was so so, but maybe those purple chests at the end can have some amazing drops?
Thank you for the explanation. I played late at night yesterday and sadly no one joined my party, so I just rolled with the NPCs they provided. The magic maze is good for meeting random people, for getting 2-3 daily lottery tickets and for using coins. With metal king slime coins you can level rapidly, with boss coins you can get powerful accessories.
You can also rarely meet Torneko, Meena, Kandar and Terry. Torneko sells items, some only available with him. Meena tells your future, which gives you a bonus effect that lasts for one to two hours. Kandar has some minor present item and Terry can defeat a coin boss for you. He will deliver the price when you meet next time.
Encounter rates for these characters is super low. You can raise the rate somewhat with a guiding perfume but meeting Terry still is super rare.
The translation that's available is only for the first offline part, which you don't even have to buy the game to experience. There's a trial you can download that includes the entire initial offline part, and I believe the patch works just fine with that. There's not that much to it, though. It's just an introduction before you go online to play the game for real.
As for playing it via a VPN, you can get a free year of Amazon Web Services and use one of their Tokyo instances. That's what I do.
