Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Steam pre-order is LIVE

Game looks fugly.

Well, it's a Japanese open world game from 2012. Graphically speaking, it was never going to be a technical showcase impressing PC gamers in 2016.

The game looks good enough for what it is.

Whoa, leaking a cracked version of a preview copy you got for free is just another level of disrespect towards Capcom... What an ass. Well, atleast the take-away so far is that it runs very well huh? And maybe a first version of ENB will be out for the official release which would be neat.

Now imagine that looking worse and running like shit. Doesn't need to look amazing to be a huge improvement over the console version.

For a game that came out in 2012, you are damn right I expect better than this. R* did way better and that game was 3 years old. Do not give me the excuse that they are a smaller dev team, or whatever other excuse. You have 3 years to remaster or spruce it up, this is abysmal. I know this game is a Neogaf darling, but excusing what I'm looking at is not happening. People need to call it out for what it is. Capcom is a big studio, they could have afforded to do something with this game. Using the excuse that it looked bad on last gen consoles, or that it somehow doesn't have to be at least graphically decent is terrible.

So... why are we even taking this screenshot so seriously when it has pretty much no AA whatsoever? Just look at the mountains. Nothing.

I'm not saying the game is a looker, but AA goes a long way.

somehow i don't think they have been working on the port for 3 years

How is the wizard class in this game? Spells look awesome so I was thinking of going that route.

And also how is the dungeon design? Are they thoughtful / well designed areas sort of like a Souls game or are they more just random / copy and pasted modular dungeons without discernible purpose?
Magic is fun and plays completely differently than melee classes. Try the hybrids too.

Dungeon design is hit or miss. Some are decent, BBI dungeons are pretty good, but a lot of recycled rooms, and honestly most of the dungeons follow a room -> corridor -> occasional stairs -> room pattern. Sometimes with wrapping around but not often. Don't expect Souls-level dungeon design sadly, but it's still better than most ARPGs.

Yea look at those NPCs in Oblivion. (eeew basically lol)

Don't really see the issue and I don't think they work on DD for 3 years like R* worked on GTAV. Don't see R* having that Capcom backlog to port.

This is not a remaster though, it's a port. The game didn't sell that well to begin with so did you really think they would be committing a ton of resources to this? Also, just because it's been three years doesn't mean a team was working on the PC version the whole time. The timeframe to actually get this thing to a point where it could be released on PC was probably fairly small. Then, as MarcoZombieCannon pointed out, it seems like AA is missing from this screenshot so it'll look better than that. Lastly, what this game does really well is atmosphere, especially during night time even if it isn't a looker overall. This has nothing to do with finding excuses and more with realistic expectations.

Well my expectations in 2016 is something that doesn't look like it came out of 2006.

If you are going to port it, but at least put some effort into it, else it feels like robbery.

Yeah so much better.

was there any mention of mod support?
Q) Does the game support modding? Any plans to integrate with Steam Workshop?
A) Dragon’s Dogma does not officially provide mod functionality nor tools to enable community mods. This is primarily due to limitations on the proprietary MT Framework engine and MTF development tools used to create the game. Unfortunately, tools only exist as a full-on development suite, contains licensed middleware solutions, fonts, and assets that cannot be sub-licensed, and therefore commissioned for internal use only.

Q) What’s Capcom’s stance on fan-made mods?
A) We won’t stop modders from tinkering around with the Steamworks edition of the game. The act of modding Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen and use of modded content is not officially warranted or supported by Capcom. Play at your own risk.

Are you for real?

Well i can see effort in this port. Better dof, better textures, 4k support, up to 150 fps.

It's a $30 port with all the DLC and some touched up controls (hot keys!) and a lucrative preorder bonus. The game can be had for $22.50 on GMG right now and that's barely above MSRP for the original release.

It seems like it is a good port though. If you feel like 30 bucks for this is akin to a robbery then just wait until it's on sale or don't buy it at all. Again, you're expecting a remaster when this was always going to be a port.

Don't give me any of that reasonable common sense bullshit, i won't hear it!
Get the fuck out of here with that rational explanation, man.

I think there's some retouched textures in the game. Like on the griffins and probably other creatures and armour.
Maybe they could have put some new post processing effects in the game, but it might have taken a bit of work with the old framework they had.

There'll undoubtedly be post processing injections anyway through things like reshade.

Regardless of graphics, the game is still worth the price I'd say. The gameplay is fun, soundtrack is excellent (really top notch) and the game comes with every single shred of DLC and content.

Actually, it looks like they are just using uncompressed versions of the original textures created. Not 100% sure on that though.

Also, it seems like they improved the lighting a little bit, I noticed the shading on some things such as the corners of buildings looks smoother than before.

What made Dragon's Dogma so great was not the graphics (Although the spell effects look amazing to me), it was the amazing combat system.

It looks pretty great especially without black bars and with high-res, what i had problem with the original release was framerate in some fights

It's not even bad looking! It was rough around the edges but it actually didn't look so bad, at least artistically.

Had some decent dynamic effects too. Some clothing physics, grass that sways with the wind and when you cast big spells, a rudimentary wetness shader. Not common for open world RPGs in 2012.

for real this game has capes on motherfucking capes (and a scarf or five)
and they're their own slot
that are physics enabled

ds2 bummed me out with that stuff when they added it cuz i thought it'd be like dragma but nope

real curious on how good i can get the game to look though, especially in action shots
seriously thank god they left in the ingame screenshot mode
