Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Steam pre-order is LIVE

Yeah, the RE6 one will work.

Thats not HBAO+, its some other AO implementation.

I see, misunderstood the question, then. At least there are several methods usable, one at least being HBAO (not sure about the plus, though) with Reshade. Which means depth buffer access is given, so we have more control about AO. But nice to hear that it works by simply changing flags as well.

The biggest question for me is, are there some badass armor sets and weapons in the game?

Short answer: yes. There are 6 stages of upgrade for every equipment piece in the game and you get some pretty amazing stuff for particular achievements.

I have no idea what Im going to play as this time.

On my first and only play through, I went with the Mystic Knight and absolutely loved it. Being this hard ass walking around in hulking heavy armor with a massive shield just fucking shit up. It was amazing.

Now, Im leabing towards something agile. Maybe Assassin.

It was patched out off review build too after couplevdays - so this lraked one has only JPN videos, not dubs :( but maybe some reviewer has the early press version backed up

Someone will just rip the jpn dub from whichever console version had it and mod that in here, no need for early press builds and such.

For the records
with an i7 860 3.7 ghz and 7950 oc to 1180 mhz don't hold 60 fps always. And i don't know what is the graphical setting than cause this. Maybe shadows.

Engadget's Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen Review is terrible.

I have slain a dragon. I have walked the coasts of this land more times than I can count, treading upon the lives of creatures most foul. I have felled the beasts of the forest with arrows and steel and pillaged their leavings for aught. I have died, thousands of times, as have those who have adventured with me. And, in the end, I think back on almost none of it with fondness, or the nostalgic recollection given to hard fought, hard won battles. I am no hero.

Listen now, as I play for you the song of my heartache. Let me spin you a tale of confusion, anger, humility and bona fide bewilderment in the face of abject mediocrity. Let me tell of Seraphina the Arisen, her loyal pawn Josephine, and their stupid, stupid quest to save the kingdom of Gransys. Let me tell you of Dragon's Dogma.

nope, i found the reason of the frame drops, it's distance scaling, need better/faster cpu, so i suppose that others old cpus should sacrifice this setting. Good to know before buying!

Opinions, opinions everywhere I guess. Some of the complaints are not untrue as such, but are highly subjective. The line about the enemies somehow walking away from you mid-combo is utter bullshit, unless they used some defensive ability or were 10 times your size and generally don't give a fuck about your flailing and as such, it would be entirely justified.

The pawn AI can be colossally stupid at times, but their inclinations affect it a great deal and they can have some crazy moments of brilliance as well. I remember a story of someone saying that their pawn actually caught them mid-fall when they had been thrown off a griffin, and I was inclined to believe it due to seeing similar things myself. There was a clip of someone playing a game of catch with a pawn, tossing a random bandit between them about 6 or times until the pawn finally decided not the pass back :p

The difficulty complaint is hilarious, especially since I'm pretty sure I know the bandit group that actually killed him and they do not block the route. The ones on the road proper are doable as soon as you get that particular quest. The ones camping down and to the right near the forest entrance however... well :D

The review is totally about the vanilla version doe (05.21.12 ), but eh, same diff since DD:DA didn't really change any of that.

yeah you can't approach this game (at least on Hard) like a DMC, you'll die at the bandits, it's really simple. You have to play thinking on what you are doing.

Draw distance is generally one of the more taxing settings in open world games. GTA V's extended distance scaling was hugely performance-intensive.

Seriously, what is the point of posting that in this thread? It's not even the Dark Arisen version.

I agree that posting unrelated reviews in a specific port's thread is nonsensical.

Looking for quotes for the OT, came across a particularly bad review for the original game.

Seems tangentially related as it is criticizing gameplay elements that are still present in this release as far as I know.

Is Dragon's Dogma more of a linear RPG with some multi paths on an area map to find hidden treasures? Or is it an open world kind of tromp where the completionist in me won't allow me to just go down the main content only, and thus never complete it due to wasting way too many hours on side quests?

Sorry... just wanted to make sure so I don't burn myself like I did with Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 where I played too much, and could never complete.

i know, i know, even in tomb raider 2013 this setting was really heavy! But this is a remaster of a ps3 game, this is really incredible to me. I can understand proper next gen games, and games with much detail on the screen, but this ? It's everything all squared ! O___O

DD goes back and forth, but it's not as littered with side quests as Fallout 4 or W3. The open world siphons itself down to multi-path with hidden treasures quite often, but there are big open areas to wander around in. The expansion content is purely dungeon diving with no open world component, too.

There are side quests, but they're mostly given out in the main hub area.

I checked some videos and the game is perfectly stable 60fps with everything maxed on a 4690k + 960 with around 50% cpu and gpu usage. I really doubt your old i7 is that much weaker. Hell even a 750Ti should max this at stable 60fps.

There is an open world that is free for you to explore but it's very simple to just follow the main quest line. This is not an rpg with a map full of quest markers. You decide your active quest and you'll see only that marker.

Is it really that surprising that a CPU from 7 years ago can't run a "new" game at max settings? The game runs absolutely fantastic from everything I've heard.

The things that perfectionists and trophy hunters need to be aware of is the passage of time and events. Doing main quests advances the timeline which affects which side quests are open. You can totally miss out on some of them if you don't roam around a bit between main quests. You can also totally fail some quests and many of them have multiple ways of solving them, some of which are just different flavors and some clearly sub-optimal.

The bounty board ones are 100% consequence free, as even getting the escort killed will only result on having to wait an in-game week for the NPC to respawn. The ones that you get from dudes with green icons on top of their heads are the ones you might fuck up or miss if they expire due to events.

Is there anything significant you can miss out on besides achievements?

Quick question. Do your pawn thingy's talk and can they die?

Your pawns talk and when you recruit other people's pawn, he/she will even shout hints at you for specific quests they've already done with the player who created him/her.

When a pawn dies on the battlefield, you still have a bit of time to go "get him/her back up", but when you're too late, (s)he will go back to the Rift. Your main pawn will always be available to you though.
