Dragon's Dogma is an RPG like no other

So with Dragon's Dogma 2 almost upon us I wanted to highlight some systems essential to why Dragon's Dogma is such a unique series that so many players love and show you a video that explains exactly why Dragon's Dogma is not what you think and why you might not have a good time if you aren't aware of that:

1.Your character creation affects your carry weight.Larger characters have more carry weight but get hit easier while shorter, smaller characters have less carry weight but they are harder to hit so think twice before you create your character.

2.Your equipment load affects your stamina consumption and stamina recovery. The lower your load the less you are gonna run out of stamina. It is very important to have stamina in DD otherwise you are left out of breath for like 5 secs so your management of it is crucial.Curatives are essential.

3.Speaking of curatives...some of them can expire with the passing of time so when you collect those berries for example as you explore, make sure you don't waste too much time exploring that they become sour as they will poison you instead of healing you so you need to manage that.

4.Your pawns are an extention of you and other players, they are NOT npcs, they learn what their masters learn and carry it forward in the summoning players' game as information of quests or locations,They are very helpful in the game and not adjusting your party properly with good vocations for them to compliment yours can make your life harder. They also have the same carry weight system based on their looks as you do so choose your pawns wisely as you might want to use it to your advantage as you can use them as mules for your loot basically.

5.There is tons of loot, ranging from equipment and weapons to food and plants to materials and monster parts for upgrading equipment, its basically Monster Hunter meets Diablo.

6.Speaking of loot,in the DD series you have the option to duplicate items at a forger, say you were tasked with getting a unique item for an npc in a quest but that item gives you some stat boosts if you have it in your inventory, why not see a forger and duplicate that and give the npc the duplicate. He might notice or might not notice it's a forgery but it's up to you to make that decision.

7.Some quests are time sensitive, meaning if you mess around too much they'll expire, someone might die or get kidnapped etc.

8.Your actions or inactions have actual consequences in the story and NPCs can die or you miss out on additional quests etc.

9.Night time is actually night time.Probably the best night time in any game EVER,when you go out at night don't expect magic lights out of nowhere illuminating your path or the full moonrays giving off a blue hue that makes nightime as visible as day time like in many rpgs.In DD you go out at night then you better have a light source with you or you won't see anything 2 feet in front of you as it's pitch black.Different types of enemies roam around at night.

10.Fast travel is limited. You don't just press a button and choose wherever you want to go on the map.You have certain items that allow you to fast travel and only a couple of crystals scattered throughout the world that basically lets you fast travel to the location you've placed the crystal at.Thing is..you have to actually get there on foot to place the crystal where you want to travel which encourages exploration even more.

--------------------------------------------------------

I absolutely adore Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen, it's one of my favourite games of all time,I platinumed the PS3 version after 125 hours and I've had a similar experience as in that video in the begining, yet as I understood its systems I started loving it because it all felt so real and immersive and the world such a joy to explore. The only other games that gave me s similar feeling of exploration are the Souls games,Witcher 3 and Zelda BOTW and TOTK.

It has one of the better combat systems in RPGs out there,it's helmed by the director of Devil May Cry 3,4 and 5,an absolute legend at Capcom,Hideaki Itsuno and it shows as there are few games out there with the versatility of DD.From being able to climb your enemies to throwing them off cliffs to having different classes split with different variations of those classes,to having tons of items at your disposal that can dispatch enemies to literally being posible to finish the game barehanded if you so choose as this guy proved it.

The open world is the star of the show of your Dragon's Dogma experience, It's just waiting for you to step forth and prove your worth.

"So take up arms, newly arisen. The choice falls not to me,nor to the whims of fate...it is yours alone!"

the more i think about it, the more i think i should first try to finally finish the first one before i think of purchasing the new ones...i found it overrated the first time i played it, but people say it gets better with the dlc

I think if you are on the fence about the 2nd one and you already have the first one then you should definitely just give the first one another try first.

Some tips for you, just take your time with it,understand it only gets better as you level up,in the begining you're not gonna be a powerhouse, play on easy, game is pretty challenging even on easy,so for a newcomer start on easy and eventually do a 2nd playthrough on hardmode if you are willing though at that point I'd just say buy DD2 and play it maybe come back afterwards for Hard Mode, it's NOT recomended to do Hard mode first try.

Save alot before any new quest or traversal you do.Game autosaves in certain spots but it's usually pretty sketchy, once i was put behind 40 mins behind where I was....

And VERY IMPORTANT,constantly get new pawns as you level up,the only pawn that levels up is yours, the other 2 remain the same level they have when you recruit them,so when you pass their level, just get new pawns with higher levels, unless it's a crazy pawn with insane damage but you won't stumble upon that until at least late game.

Also very important, grab EVERY quest on the quest boards OUTSIDE of the escort ones. These quests are usually kill x number of animals or monsters etc. which you will do as you progress so if you get them it's easy exp and gold.
Do the escort ones too, mainly the ones weapon rewards like the Griphic Victory sword but AFTER you get some crystals for fast travel, put them where you need to escort that person and voila, instant quest resolve.

You should give it another chance, it's not a perfect game but it has alot of heart.

That is not necessarily a good thing. I personally felt disconnected from the world of the original, so I have no interest in this new one.

runs at incredible frame rate like no other as well
Yeah I know, runs at the same framerate as Bloodborne, another masterpiece, isn't that awesome?

It's almost like people play the actual game and not the framerate itself...hard to grasp i know.

I don't watch any videos that say "Watch before you buy", "Don't make these 10 mistakes", "15 things you need to know" as they ruin self-discovery and tend to try to project the content creators views as your own.

Only media I'd watch is maybe Vocation overviews and that's it.

It has no spoilers to DD2, it's strictly related to DD1 examples of how the systems work so you can be prepared for what might transpire in the second game and not fall in the same mistakes. It has footage of gameplay from DD2 though if you are really sensitive to spoilers but its official footage mostly.

So you're saying if I'm idling in the game enjoying the peaceful views and soaking in the game world someone can DIE?

What did he do?

I think it’s related to view botting drama

Yes and also other stuff, they are interlinked but essentially he gaslighted other content creators and said they where lying. Despite twitch making changes to combat the exact scenarios he was accused of using and has never streamed since they made the changes in late October (funny that)

But largely it's his fextralife wiki problem (which was at the heart of the viewbotting scandle) where posts linking to the community wiki on reddit received swarms of downvotes, where fextralife wiki alternatives received swarms of upvotes. Some communities had to disable the ability to link to fextra to stop the brigading. They also show up above the community run wiki's due to search engine optimisation and often have outdated or incorrect information compared to the community wiki, due to the fact less actually editors use it and often driven off the site by mods who for whatever reason don't like people updating the site in a way they disagree with.

But yes the core reason for all of this links back to his view botting, as getting people onto his wiki and not the community driven ones resulted in more of his streams being secretly open on a sidebar and him getting strait to the top of the most viewed category whenever he streamed. Well until twitch shut that down... and he hasn't streamed since. Despite him making a post stating he never did that and everyone else is lying about him. If he streamed once after twitch made the changes, the fact his stream would have 1/20th of what he had prior, would be obvious.

So a piece of shit.

even they are not changed and quite similar with the first, i will still consider it cool.
DDDA is very different with other games, not only because pawn, but also how the game presented.
it is somewhat between serious but also not serious and quite stubborn with their kind of jokes. and seem traces of MH also on there. weird in the good way <3

If say you get a quest saying the princess has been abducted and is about to get killed and instead of going to rescue her you go search for berries or something for 4 days you might get a message saying quest failed and that the princess has been killed or something akin to that.

But if the quest isn't active then you can do whatever you want.

Internet viewership drama. Whatever. All I know is he puts out the best content that I care about, specifically Elden Ring builds.

I remember hating the inventory system in the first game, overall i didn't think much of the open world/adventure elements, but the combat is pretty good, probably among the best in open world games

What moon? I've never seen the moon in the game. I think there is a moon in BBI, but I've never seen one in the overworld.

Oh and I think there are only two time sensitive quests in the game iirc. Basically because the stuff you're given expires. The rest are quest/plot dependent. You advance the plotline and didn't finish X quest? The Duke's kinda slutty wife is thrown in 'prison' and you have to rescue her, but you did another quest that advanced the plotline?
QUEST FAILED.
You accept X quest and didn't finish Y quest? QUEST FAILED. etc.

It's one of the things I liked and what annoyed me about the quest system. If you don't know whats up, you can screw yourself over and may not know about the interlocking quests. Though forging a certain book and giving it to a certain someone to see them fuckup is always amusing.
