Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

To those that have finished the game proper - I'm creepin up on 60 right now.. strider and assassin 100% with a stamina focused augment list with the heavy hitters (except night time only enhancements) like preemption hanging out for damage increases. Can I tackle this last mission and will that put me at post-game if i do?? I'm itching to get at that Ur-Dragon...
60 is more than high enough for the final battle. Not sure about postgame.
A question about Aelinore for those who beat the game.

I completely missed giving her the jester hat after meeting the Duke, which I think locks me out of the Arousing Suspicion quest. Am I now locked out of any future quests she gives or involving her? Duchess in Distress, for example.

Is there any way to start Arousing Suspicion even though I never gave her the hat?
I don't know, but if you have you've done yourself a favor. Regret nothing.

some trolls in the weekend confirmed thread tried to pass this game off as a tech failure because the game is "letterboxed". Because capcom slaps on the letterbox + copyright + logo when you do a screenshot.

LOL

Not making yourself look good with that line of defense. The entire game is letterboxed, including the damn main menu.

I had to turn off my ps3 when in NG+ I just got to Gran Soren; stupidly added quests and ended up taking on the aelinore fetch quest. Was all the way up the page; ran into bandits who slew her.

yup. That's right. my level 60 arisen couldn't hack some bandits. i wish the healer/sorcerer would heal NPCs.

I know they do. I've hired several mage pawns who target healing spells on NPC escorts I've done before.

Maybe they just don't like her. :p

The healer will heal the person you're escorting, but it appears only between fights and never during one.

Yeah, that's what I've noticed too.

That's weird. The mages I traveled with normally healed the NPCs I was escorting. If all else fails, you can make them heal you with the "Help" command while holding the injured NPC.

Yea or if you're injured, you can go run over next to them and let the heal carry over. I did that with the oxen at the start of the game.

my arisen wasn't damaged so they won't heal him. That holding the NPC trick sounds really neat.

that the game isn't letterboxed?

? Maybe i'm going crazy here, but i'm pretty sure the game has black bars top and bottom.. unless i'm misunderstanding what you're saying.

Yeah to heal my client i usually go near him and hit R2, then call help to heal him (even if i'm full).
That's why i always try to stay away from battle when against big monsters.

1. Yes, you're able to change both your main character's and your pawn's appearance. Eventually, a man at The Encampment will be standing by Rift Stone where he sells skin color, hair color, and something else I forgot; you use Rift Points to buy them. At Grand Soren, I think you can get hair style change, hair, facials, etc. Then, at the Main Title, you can character edit.

2. The Pawn you create will be your Main Pawn. Yes, he/she will be permanent. If he/she dies (ie: disappears after being down for too long), you can pick him/her up in the Rift Stone. I believe you have the option to venture solo, I haven't tried yet, so I'm not sure. You're also able to have 2 other pawns join your party, making it 4 people total (in case you didn't know).

3. I recommend saving a lot. Actually.. A LOT. Because monsters can get pretty tough. If you venture enough where monsters almost kill you in one hit.. I recommend waiting 'til you get at a higher level.

I don't know how else to answer, so hope this helps.

EDIT:
Also, bring curatives for yourself. You'll need them. Eventually you'll find a few Healing Springs through Gransys. I recommend bringing Empty Bottles. You can fill them up like you do w water and oil. They heal the team.

I'll tell you this now before you end up asking, it's a little confusing how this works. First purchase the item with RC, then exit your game and go to the main menu and one of the options is to Edit your character.

thanks for the info!

His claim is that the bars only appear in the screenshots, which as we all know is false.

The creepy thing about this is i can't recall black bars..even though i'm aware they're there. (not the radiohead song) I have effectively tuned them out, but still i wonder why CAPCOM went that route.

When I run into enemies while escorting, I've learned to pick up the person I am escorting so they don't capture him (ie: Snow Harpies). My quest failed because I was fighting and he/she ended up dying from being oblivious to combats. I even pick up my support pawn if he's in the middle of casting when we're trying to run lol.

But, my friend's pawn is a healer mage and he'd heal me, my teammates and himself so of course he has to heal the one I'm escorting as well (and he does). Could it be due to the pawn's personality that he's only focused on you rather than the party?

You are on fire my friend.

From Digital Foundry (experts and not deluded):

"First impressions are intriguing. The first thing we noticed is the unusually wide aspect ratio - it's closer to that of a 2:35:1 movie than the common 16:9 presentation we normally see in video games. Both versions of Dragon's Dogma are thus rendered in a sub-HD resolution (1280x608), but in order to avoid any unwanted scaling this is actually contained in a native 720p buffer with blank pixels rendered at the top and bottom of the screen. "

Also the Gamespot Video Review (checked the Dirt Showdown one also just to make sure that the site hadn't changed anything after capture).

Quest log is cleared in ng+. Fresh start BUT you still keep the credit for quests completed in the previous game.

thx.

that's normal for me as well. i play plenty of 4:3 games on 16:9 TVs and just don't care. black bars disappear after 2 minutes. in DD, they never were there.

Probably to ensure performance remains constant with all kinds of fighting going on.

I'm still early in the story, but what's this UR dragon thing, how does it work? Don't want to miss important stuff.

You can fight him after you've beaten the story dragon. It's basically a bonus boss fight that gives the best loot in the game. His current health is determined by all the players fighting him at the same time, that's really all about it. The fight itself is not fun and boring even, and serves no other purpose than to net you loot that you cannot get anywhere else.

This game still feels fresh to me - having fun at NG+. Can't wait to get back into post-game again, because I just learned about a few armor sets that have a 2% chance of obtaining only at Everfall. I'm going to be farming there like crazy next time.

Btw Aug, did you get the thing I sent your Pawn?

Is there any equipment with passive xp boost ability? I know about that one temp. consumable item, beside that.

None that I've come across. Just forge Veteran's Periapts for 37,000G and sleep for a day. I've been doing that and they still work even if forged. I use one when I'm about to land a killing blow on a Ur-Dragon :)

So it's not the Abyssinal gear that the Ur-Dragon drops?

So I've just gone into Everfall at lvl 12 and as I go deeper and deeper I'm realizing this was a terrible mistake. Will I fail a quest or screw anything up if I run from a battle and leave?

Edit: turns out my only option was to run, lols. Go figure.

There's actually better equipment than Abyssinal. And yes, the Abyssinal set drops from the Ur-Dragon, but it looks so plain and ugly I don't bother with it. The 2% drops for what I'm referring to are from treasure chests inside the many Chambers of Everfall.

Seraphis Cain

bad gameplay lol
Well that was one of the coolest things I've ever seen in this game. Was fighting a succubus, which was at full health. I knocked it up in the air with my ice sword, which also froze it, and while it was in the air one of my pawns shot a fireball at it, which shattered it to pieces.

I love this game. :D

That was basically my whole NG+: cleaning up a few quests I'd missed (still missing 3 according to this) and waiting to get back to Everfall.

Gossip's Mask? Wow, I got really lucky then. I found that one in the southern bandit camp pretty early in the game. I only recently replaced it for something I thought was better, and not a legendary.
It doesn't necessarily have to be powerful. I guess it's one of those items that's very rare to find or available at just one location.

still missing 3 according to this
Bookmarked.

I kind of wish; reading these posts that I didn't jump into NG+ without buying the weapons I wanted. Now itd be ages before I get it again.

What classes are people using to kill urdragon and what level? I couldn't make a ding whenever I went there and the motherfucker is brutal. Never survived the 8 minutes. I'm a level 60 magic archer but was largely for the most parts in the game a warrior.

I'm a level 25 Fighter, with a Strider pawn,Mage and Warrior at the same level or so and I still can't beat an Ogre,I mean I probably could but it would take like 30 minutes since I do so little damage on it...is this normal? because I have a quest now to kill 3 of them in a mine lol...

I am waiting to have full rank on my Fighter before I change his vocation,is this a good idea?...

Not entirely sure that it should have taken me 60 hours and 40 character levels to get to the part of the story where you investigate the Everfall for the first time. I probably shouldn't have the entire world map filled in by now!

Oh well.

So far coming along nicely in NG+ Actually doing most of the missing again for the EXP and Gold. I have only 3 Achievements remaining... I got The Hero in NG+ somehow I lost Reynard the first time around and in NG+ I met him at The Encampment to start "Search Party" and completed it right there, I had all the materials and Journal Entries and the Achievement unlocked. So tracking of Quests carries over to NG+ even though the quest-log was basically blank.

I tried to avoid doing the "Rotten Carrot" trick, but "The Well Equipped" Achievement is for 350 different pieces of Weapons and Armor. There are so many I skipped over, but now I have to make a checklist. Not to mention I got very few chest items in the Post-game Everfalls... I think just the Exotic Boots. I spent ~ 12 million in 1 playthrough on Sorcerer Gear ( including enhancing ) and to do that with other gear is just ridiculous.

Also anyone have any good strategies for a Sorcerer fighting the Ur-Dragon? It seems that I'm just not doing any damage to the thing...

damn i suck so bad at this game

just got the first quests from ser maximillion and keep getting worked over just trying to get to the place where the quest starts.

thing is there don't seem to be many other quests i can do. i looked at the noticeboard and it had a bunch of escort quests, one of which i tried and it turned out to be going to the same place as the ser max quest...

i think its some kind of castle over to the west but its not even clear how to get there from the map.

i tried going a different way and ran into predator lizards :S
