Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

Just started this up last night and I couldn't get enough of the song that plays at the main menu. It sounds kinda cheesy at first but it grew on my really quickly.

Now that I'm well above level 30 (actually, level 45 now), I've been doing a lot more exploring, and it's always exciting even if it's usually not hard. The game has turned into a huge time vortex now. It always keeps me going for an hour or two longer than I expect.

I had something really strange happen in my game, though. During the "Pride Before the Fall" quest (the story-ish one with Mercedes), I encountered a really weird glitch.
After her duel with Julian, when the game turned from pre-rendered cutscene to realtime, she vanished completely. Julian talked to a wall for a while, talked to me, and then left. The game, still in cutscene mode, panned around in empty space and total silence for a minute or two, cutting between wide shots of the courtyard and closer shots of the Arisen and a spot in front of him. My character did not emote. Eventually, it ended, and I was told to report the results of my mission. A Silver Rapier appeared in my inventory without a prompt appearing onscreen.

Should I be concerned going forward? And what would have happened normally had my game not glitched?
I got that same bug. I was so damn confused. :lol Thinking about it now, I tried doing a Mercedes escort quest at one point and she died. Maybe it shifted from "Event Mercedes" to "Normal Mercedes" and the latter was still dead?

No, most of the helmets are fabric or steel...badum chiiiiii
Get out.

I agree, having to go to the "Equipment" screen is a bit of a bummer.

I also wouldn't mind the ability to "lock" an item so that when you choose "all" for depositing into storage it excludes the locked items.

I never did that escort quest, so that can't be the cause. I wonder if I was just standing in the wrong place or something.

That duel fight choreography was really something, huh?

I still had the Arisen's Bond item from my first playthrough. Just for fun, I gave it to Mercedes as soon as I met her in NG+ Her reaction was pretty amusing. I sorta wish I had forged it first but I guess I can get another this time around. I'm curious now if every NPC has unique dialogue when you give it to them or only certain ones have unique dialogue.

How do you get that, anyway? I never saw it in either of my two playthroughs.

It was awful, but it worked for me because
I kept expecting Mercedes to make a comeback. :(

I stood
between them because I thought I was going to get a cutscene where I risk my life to protect her, she gets angry at Julien, makes a come back, and kill Julien in the process, and *insert awkward romance scene*

Of course none of it happened, slashes just went right through me, and
I just watched her lose, she left after I gave her 10 of those cloudwine I brought her
, feels bad.

Mostly just quest line information, but spoiler-tagged just in case

You have to do Quina's escort quest just after the Encampment Hydra event, then after doing Duke's Directive, you occasionally overhear a conversation in front of the Gran Soren where they talk about a mob looking for Selene. Do that quest and it opens up a new path in the Witchwood. You meet Selene at a gravesite. Leave the Witchwood and immediately come back and go to the gravesite again. There's a tablet there that, if you take to the priests, you get an Arisen's Bond for your troubles.

The Metal Golem is also in that area but I don't recommend taking him on unless your job class has archery skills.

When I get to one of the holdfasts (or waycastles? idk) can I sleep? I've just been standing around the fire waiting for morning, but is there a way I can rest?

Well, balls. I did all of that except for the return visit.

I forgot all about that creature! So it is kill-able? I should go back down there today. At level 42 it should be cake right?

i dunno i have got back at the bottom of the staircase yet , your task the first time was to go back once you'd see what at the bottom and i quickly realised that i shouldnt stay here so long ..

How do i open the mines gate anyway ? there is this merchant who want me to open it but i'm not sure how ?( i'm pretty sure i missed something obvious ) ..Is Lv 24 good for that quest ?

my rebirthed pawn (NG+) is a sexy thing white witch looking sorceress with a pony tail. Previous, she was a short black tween with dreads and I had very little RC. Maybe about 5000 all up??

Been on holiday; will be back in a couple of days; here's to loads of RCs. If not... fuck you internet.

5000 RC only? I had 1.5 million RC when I went into NG+.

I was on vacation last week and when I got home and checked my pawn had earned like 50,000 RC while I was gone. I know that's not a lot in the grand scheme of things, but considering my pawn is a giant male viking bruiser and not the slutty looking teen girl that most players seem to go for, I was happy. You should be fine.

Mason's quest should be part of that lot, but unfortunately it seems that it (Mason's) actually becomes available immediately upon accepting Barnaby's request. Undertaking it under those circumstances creates a situation where it cannot be completed, the guy you are following simply vanishes into a wall at the end of the pursuit - the final cut-scene/event never happens!

the cutscene where
julien is meeting with madeleine in her shop?
i got that one without clearing the first EF quest.

Ouch man, I feel for ya. I think I got close to 3 million over a weekend shortly after launch. Sitting at ~4.7 million right now...with nothing to do with it :(

Hi,

I have a quick question. I'm currently playing Dragon's Dogma, and the game is quite fun. Right now, I'm in a temple behind a waterfall, at level 19 (you know the bridge above a river leading to the road to the Capital ? Follow the river upward and you can find it). There is one door that I can't open, and I'm not able to find the item which is necessary in order to open it (I searched it near the place where we can attack a Cyclop, to no avail).

... Which isn't a problem in fact, since I've been able to do some "sequence-breaking" by doing great jumps in order to reach some aeras (in fact, I'm not really sure if it is "sequence-breaking"... I mean, they left these aeras open for a reason, right ?), and notably the one behind the door, which allowed me to evacuate the water in the aera.

But, for the sake of it : where is the item needed in order to open that door ? It's driving me insane.

I had the same problem, you get a quest later which drains the water and opens the doors. Just wait.

I'm not sure, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I stumbled upon the Water Gods alter as well and explored what I could around level 30. From what I can tell you cannot venture further into the dungeon until a story related quest appears, but I could be wrong...anyone want to chime in with a second opinion?

There is a watergod temple quest. The only way to get the orb which opens the door is by doing the quest. Otherwise, all you can do is some general exploration.

Edit: beaten!

I did the same thing using a Mystic Knight. I just air-dashed over the water filled areas. I don't remember where I found the key, but I haven't used it yet since I thought I might be able to give it away or something later on. Maybe it was in the main hall?

Edit: Ah, that explains it. I did the quest after I had already "finished" the temple.

Ok, so I just need to unlock a quest ? Thank you very much.

Geez, I'm overloaded with these heavy pieces of something... Grmblbl.

Better than me. I picked here up when she fell during that quest and got arrested. lol.

Haha. A similar tale. I was chasing a boy named Pip on a quest for Fournival and I couldn't catch the bugger at all, he was way shiftier than the thief in Cassardis. I de-equipped my sword and punched him in the head and then grabbed him. After the conversation I was throw in the dungeon LOL.

You're probably overloaded with the stone tablets you need to collect as part of the quest in that temple. As I recall, they weigh a lot by the time you have all 5 or 6.

On my first playthrough, I had too much of a distance from her and she complained about that. I did everything else perfectly on that quest, but since she complained I only got a Golden Egg out of it. Some quests are just so damn sensitive.

I sprinted as fast as possible pushing her out of the way and jumping across rooftops and shit, completely owning her in the race, I thought she would like that.

Then I read about the gold idol a few hours later, fuck everything

So I'm in the cursewood at night - off the path- and my group is basically just strolling and killing ogres and wolves. Then I see a quest start that says slay the enemy and a knight with a tower shield ambushes me, and starts wreaking havoc on my entire party.

Question: Who is this asshole? I tried to fight him, but I was doing literally (I think) 0 damage to the guy. I'm a level 20 strider and had 3 pawns to assist me, but we still got demolished. Am I not supposed to meet this guy, or could I have reasonably taken him?

He's usually near the Soulflayer Canyon entrance. If you stick to the road then he won't spot you. Lvl 20 is really low to take him on, just run past him.

Does anyone know what is needed to 3-star "Gransys" under Travels for your pawn? Do I have to 3-star all other locations or just uncover the entire overworld map? Because I've pretty much filled out my map and it's still only 2-star. :/

That's what I thought, too, but no one ever comes. It must not work if you've already killed all the enemies in the area.

I tested it in the Cursewood with some wolves. If I tripped it, they'd go all aggro. If I didn't, they didn't react until after I left the little tunnel thing I was in and there would be fewer of them.
