They're just making sure you've got plenty of items to send home with their fellow pawns.

Mine was actually remarkably reticent to pick things up, which is why I decided to correct the problem. Now the pendulum's swung entirely too far in the other direction, though. If you could send custom messages when you sent pawns home I think it'd only be a matter of time before mine came back with "Picked flowers while cyclops chewed on me. Zero stars."

I trained mine that way, and I actually heard her say "Forget these weaklings, I'm going to pick up some loot!" or something to that effect during a battle. I still get a lot of RC cause she's wearing a big coat with the front open and her panties exposed.

Fought my first rock golem today. What an awesome fight.

Man, I am stuck on the other side of the Stone Waycastle, that is on the way to Gran Soren. I can't get into Gran Soren without the escort, and the escort is on the other side of the Waycastle Gate. haha. What is the shortest route to getting back around to the front? I don't want to have to travel through the Ancient Quarry again, and then aaaaalll the way around the South then head North to the Waycastle, but if that's what I must do, then so be it.

haha, speaking of Escorts...

Yeah, the lighting is definitely striking. There's a "natural" quality to everything that doesn't look overly phony, despite basic shadowing and a lot of (admittedly imperfect) light sources. It makes really mundane stuff like this seem very pretty

Nailed it, and that is why it actually is such a good looking game. The natural, earthy look and fantastic lighting makes it look distinct and beautiful without razor sharp, popping textures. Add in the detail to the monsters, the magical effects, and how you can fine tune the character models of you and your pawn and you start to realize how impressive it really is.

CAPTAIN'S ARMOR from the "Coiffure You Can't Refuse" DLC. Its the outfit on my main pawn, standing just right of me (I'm holding the lantern).
AtvSlxjCIAAgymk.jpg:large

And one more shot...
AtvS8amCIAExwQp.jpg:large

STATS:

DEF: 245
Magick DEF: 165
Piercing Resist: 7%
Striking Resist: 7%
Elemental Resist: 3% (An E turned on its side, not sure what it means) 4% (looks like a star, maybe it means holy or lightning, not sure)
Debilitation Resist: 18%
Damn it, I really like the look of that armor. Not giving in to Capcoms DLC though.

I got grudge sucked!
Got to Gran Soren and so far the only quest I haven't finished is the snake killing quest. I love this game. Stayed up to 2:30, last time I did that was finishing Blight Town.

Witchwood was not that hard. The ghosts at night could be tricky. The spiders were disappointing. What kind of fantasy game is this without giant spiders?

The Thing about Witchwood (i've only done the early mission where you have to find that girl), is that when you reach the witch's house, my pawns kept talking about these "wierd" rocks. So, I take a look at them (it's dark, so it might be clearer in daylight), but after a few moments, the rocks do look like giant rock golem's, on their hands and knees. I can see their 2 arms and hands for sure. Makes me wonder about the future, if and when I go back there.

yeah...I don't do golems, certainly not rock golems.

My pawn seems to be popular.

So what can I actually do with rift crystals? I feel like I'm missing something. I've played the game quite a bit, my character is close to Level 30 and so far I could only spend them on high level pawns and that merchant at the beginning of the game that allows you to change your appearance. Neither of this is anything I ever intend to use.

Seriously lacking buttons on the controller, 3 sword moves aren't enough! And there are some buffing moves that consumes a slot too.

You should switch your pawn's vocation to warrior anyway, at a minimum to get the first augment which is +50 defense. A few warrior augments will come in handy and can only help a sword/shield fighter. Then after you've gotten what you need, switch back to fighter.

Does Mystic Knight ever get shield bashing attacks? I like the shield enchantment skills but I dont find myself using them all that much. Sometimes I just want to clock a dude in the face with it.

I've done that with both my main and my pawn. Jobs that give an augment at level 1, buy the role and the augment and switch back. Easy way to fill up your augment set.

Ended up exploring a bit before the bridge you cross and went into a dungeon. The place was half flooded and I found a ton of good items in here. Got to the end and a cyclops flipped out on my party, and like any good leader I ran past him and looted all the chests while my pawns fought. He apparently knocked off and killed my 2 hired pawns while I did this, so I turned around to see my main pawn running away from this drenched monster that just murdered half of my team.

Ended up taking him down, but I then realized how damn useful mages are, because I had a lot of grey health that couldn't be healed and we were both Heavy due to all the really good stuff I was finding here. I was able to double jump to some hard to reach caverns and found a way to drain the water which probably means there's a lot more to the place, but I saw my first phantom, shot an arrow at it and it exploded into a couple orbs that flew around so I decided to get the hell out of there.

This game really has an unmatched sense of adventure and exploration. They have TONS of hidden stuff both in the world and in dungeons/mines, you can jump around and climb to find chests hidden all over the place.

I posted a couple pages back about that place, it was behind a waterfall right?

I love shit like that, just a hidden big dungeon that you would never know about if you didn't explore (maybe it's part of quest?). I also got to the phantoms and died, I saved right before. To get to them I had to do some crazy sprinting platforming which was awesome. They are vulnerable to fire so I'm going to try and whittle them down and keep exploring the place, I've been in it for hours. My party is only around lvl 12, so I was surprised I was able to progress that far into it, the cyclops took like 20 mins of arrows to die.

Everytime I head out of the city I find myself mentally preparing for some epic adventure. Makes me glad there is no fast travel now. There's just something about fighting by only the glow of your lantern and spell effects too. I find myself wanting night to hit mid-adventure. I find myself having to visit every campfire I see after clearing the surrounding area as if I need to huddle around it for safety and warmth. It's so damn gorgeous. The Japanese take on this style gets me everytime. It's a similar vibe I get from Matsuno games like Vagrant Story or the more recent Souls games which are some of my favorite games of all time.

I was debating switching him over. If only because he has nothing else to get on the Fighter side.

Are inns the only rest areas in the game? I found a church yesterday and hoped I could rest there but I couldnt. Im also about to do a quest where I have to clear out goblins that took over one of our strongholds and Im hoping I can rest there after.

Where do I go for the escort quest A Parting Tribute? It's marked on my map, but it's so vague and the only way I see that might lead to it is near the witchwood, but that's so far south of Gran Soren I'm not sure it's right.

There are very few camps here and there between cities that allow you to rest, but aside from that I haven't found anything else.

This so much ... I wish oh wish that if you did not have a secondary weapon equipped you had extra skill slots for your primary. I'm so sold on gouge now i can't bring myself to take it off but I miss clarity and windmill baaad :(

You don't need to talk to him. The book is in a chest at the highest part of the that citadel. You have to do a bit of fancy jumping to get to it.

I think you're at the wrong camp.

And this. If you're in a camp of females then you went to the wrong one. I think just about everyone did that.

You are my new best friend.
HOLY CRAP. I spent so much time thinking about my character and never thought to use Grianne Ohmsford and her brother or Rue Merridian and her brother...

God Damnit.

Ya my main is called Pannomen Creel(SIC from the books). Honestly due to the way the world looks and the mix of real world creatures with fantasy it really at times feels VERY Shannara or wildlands Warhammer RPG like.

Glad to see some other Shannara fans on here!

Works perfect to me:

HDMI
Samsumg LED SMART TV 3D
1080i (Minimun tearing)
Motion Plus on Clear (Minimun)
Intermediate
YCbCr

with 1080p tearing
with Motion Plus on Standard or Soft A LOT of tearing

Ya those are good settings. Sadly this game is really fucking finicky with the settings especially the 360 but once you dial it in you can really increase the image quality a great deal.

Anyone saying the PS3 version doesn't chug that much, do the
second part of the Griffin mission at Bluemoon Tower
(the part from the Quick Look). Oof.

It is different for everyone on the PS3 some say they don't get any drops, other say it goes down to 5-15. And the 360 has the tearing issue if you don't set the 720p setting in the dashboard...and looks bad color wise if you don't adjust the settings.

Honestly I would say this was already in the works for being my game of the year but the technical issues, though you can work through them, do bother me a great deal.

Getting around in this game is such a chore. I really wish they had a dedicated fast travel system like Skyrim. Often times I'm traveling far distances and I end up getting stranded in the middle of nowhere with low health and items at night. It's horrible.

Btw, how does the leveling of the pawns work when you're in the rift? Since people can only create one pawn, and that pawn levels with them, does that mean that eventually most pawns that you'll find in the rift will be high level? I'd imagine this will be troublesome for new players down the road.

Unless I'm missing something.

Friggen harpies have killed me more times in my 2nd playthrough than I died total in my first. They have dropped me on rocks, onto my pawns, off the edge of a cliff. Dat Harp Song! It also gets me many times.

Well, if you don't play online at all you just get generic pawns that Capcom put into the game. I guess you'd just use those then.

I don't think it'll be an issue. There are always going to be people who only play for a few hours and never come back. Even if that was the case, I think the game provides you with some built-in pawns.

Anyone know what will happen in this scenario, I ask because I'm going to be taking my PS3 to the coast this weekend with no internet connection.

I'm deep down in a dungeon with 2 summoned pawns that I assume are from PSN. When I load my game tonight with no internet are they going to just go poof?

Pawn made 17k RC over night. Hnggggg

Which brings me back to my question nobody answered:

So should I constantly be switching out pawns?

Im level 18 and two of my pawns are only level 12.
They don't seem to level up.

They don't while they are with you. That is why you need to change them after you out level them. If you have one you like, just favorite them after you release them and you can get them again later at higher levels. Besides, it also freshens up the game to have new party members. I actually love this system.

There's probably more to do, but I figure it's mostly to be able to hire Powerful Pawns, Pawns there are way above you in levels. For better chances of survival.

If you spook a rabbit near a cliff sometimes they'll run right off the edge. I was honestly a little horrified the time I saw a group of about six bunnies hurl themselves to their deaths to get away from me.

I wasn't even planning on doing anything to them.

Kinda lame, isn't it? Aside from some difficulty spikes early in the game in don't think it's a very hard game. Like not even close to Demon's/Dark Souls. Hiring overleveled pawns doesn't seem necessary.

I hope these RCs become more useful at some point.
