Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

Its not exactly that but if you are familiar with them, yes it has some direct comparisons and the general feel in a way.

Also I would say so far my favorite effect in the game is something very small.
When you get the spell cast on your to make your weapons and shield glow. I am not sure why but that is my favorite fucking effect in the game. At night when you are running around taking on baddies with that effect it just looks...like something from Warhammer, or Shannara, or some somewhat low magic but brutally dangerous world. Its perfect.

Bravo to these guys.

My favorite effect so far in the game, is shooting the gigantic light spell, to lighten up the surrounding area. I used that in this dark dungeon behind a waterfall (the dungeon had alot of water in it, as well as a decaying "structure" in it. Shooting that light off in the distance, and having pillars and such block out portions of it....it's spectacular looking.

Played non-stop and reached level 20; damn, this game is goooood. I was kinda overwhelmed at the start - the learning curve is a bit high, but I just kept on playing and everything fell into place. Taking my own sweet time with the game now.

The lighting in general in this game is fantastic. A pitchblack night fighting an ogre with a club that's on fire being the only light being casted...I said goddamn.

Yeah, the lighting is definitely striking. There's a "natural" quality to everything that doesn't look overly phony, despite basic shadowing and a lot of (admittedly imperfect) light sources. It makes really mundane stuff like this seem very pretty:

I have a question. In the "History" part of the start menu you can see your stats. My stat for "Times Main Pawn Was Hired" is at 4 but I must have seen at least 20 messages stating "Your pawn has returned from helping etc etc.". I also received more than 4 gifts.

Is the stat glitched or there is something I don't get?

anyone else unable to install this game on their 360?

It's weird, when you first go to start it acts like it isn't, just kind of give it a few minutes and then it will start going up.

God damn griffons, I still haven't killed one. Whenever they start getting close the fuckers just fly off.

HOLY CRAP. I spent so much time thinking about my character and never thought to use Grianne Ohmsford and her brother or Rue Merridian and her brother...

God Damnit.

Thanks that worked. I just didn't give it enough time. Weird though.

Is DLC region-locked? Free PS3 codes for Armour and Weapon packs for the first person to answer this riddle, with that question in mind. They'll be EU region if they are locked.

First think of the person who lives in disguise,
who deals with secrets and tells naught but lies.
Next, tell me what's always last to mend,
the middle of middle and end of end?
And finally give me the sound often heard
during the search for a hard-to-find word.
Now string them together, and tell me this,
which creature would you be unwilling to kiss?

What is the pawn pre-order DLC?

Found a flaming sword, a dire wolf bow and a nice shield on one of those long escort quests.

This game is adventure.

DLC is generally region free iirc, just provided it's available in that Region...or you have an account linked to that Region.

Is the DLC for PS3 or 360? If it's for PS3 (as I have it on 360) then feel free to pass it to someone else :)

Yah... so i'm clearing out the fort and laying waste to cyclops all over the place... killed one before I even got down off the wall with well place eye ball shots (zoomed shots are doing like a 1/4th or 1/5th of a life bar now) ... drop down to take care of the second one and gouge it up a bit.. cleaning up some goblins and generally just causing mayhem but my pawns keep getting tossed around and then killed by all the ballista up above us... i spot and zoom in... fire bow knocked and ready to fly and see the hands of my goblin enemy readying the shot. Not wanting to take one in the face I rush my release just a little bit.

What happens?

I shoot the fucking ballista arrow OUT OF THE AIR.

Wat?

Are you kidding me?

GOTY. This game makes skyrim look like a fuckin text based web browser game. I am in love.

Got it last night and played for about 4 hours. Made myself a cute little strider girl and tried to create Stephen Merchant as my pawn. Didn't turn out too bad but the face is not quite right. Still he's tall and lanky and a bit goggle eyed so I'm happy.

After
the hydra fight
I made my way back
to the fishing village to search for Quina but I'm way to low level for that. Same for the well. Went into it and saw one of the croc-monsters lying there. Started attacking it and not doing to bad. Suddenly 3 others turned up so I turned around and ran. Concerning the Quina Quest, I'm afraid of time running out.

Anyway I've just arrived at Gran Soren and looking forward to continue tonight.

[edit]
On the hydra's head quest it got dark before we got to the city and suddenly zombies climb out of the ground all around us. Got scared for a bit but we managed them.

Man, this game is literally AD&D in real time combat. "I release the arrow in haste to avoid the ballista. Roll. Rolled a 20. You knocked the ballista arrow out of the air."

First large chest i find in the fort? Dragon Scale armor 0.0

And my assassin can wear it. booooooosh...

Above and below me: I plum forgot i even had the gamestop pre-order. Have yet to pay for a pawn that was above my level ... Anyone else having trouble searching for special pawns or using any of those advanced features? I keep getting this Unable to Connect bullshit...

I tried out the demo again, because I hadn't played the sidequest mission yet. Playing as a strider was more fun than as a fighter, though I didn't like being forced to have three pawns. Having more than one pawn is too distracting for me, at least in the demo. The gameplay was sort of starting to click with me more. I wish Redbox was getting this. :\

quick question. Do the two pawns always stay the level of when I hired them or will they be update to the status the pawns are with the player who created them? (Does this make any sense)

Yeah, you really need em in the full game. Every enemy means business.

I think you have to rehire them?

I just had an EPIC escort mission from Gran Soren to
Shadow Fort
- it was for Mercedes. This all happened in 30 minutes:

Started it off at night time, had some run in with zombies. It was dark as hell and couldn't see very far, but good thing my Magick Archer had the Magickal Gleam skill - it's very useful for lighting pathways, damaging the undead as well as blinding your foes.

Go up and around the mountain pass and on my way back near the Encampment. I had to head west from there. So, westward we go! Had run-ins with a few
Saurians
, then a
Chimera
showed up as well as more
Saurians
. It started to get hectic and day was just about to break out.

After the battle, I was about half-way there but then more goblin mobs showed up as well as an
Ogre
- it starts to get a little feisty
swinging its club around
, but ultimately was toast.

Bah, what the heck. I captured all this footage and it's being uploaded to YouTube right now, but it's going to take about 2 hours to upload and process. I'll post the link a little later, but you guys might enjoy this little adventure I just had. =)

You have to rehire them, and then you'll get the current stats of the Pawn from when the owner last slept at an inn,

Yes. Release and rehire if the owner levels them up or if you like them.

Special pawns sound like they'll be premade ones, and I don't think it's available yet as I can never get anything either. The other searches all work fine, I don't want to spend RC hiring some super high level pawn though, that seems cheap.

There was a rock somewhere in the demo that let you pick up the pawns and damage them by throwing, just do that a couple of times to play that segment pawnless.

But echoing above, I really don't see how you could not have 4 in the fullgame. The health system doesn't come into play in the demo, but you really need to try not to whittle it down to nothing even with the other pawns with you, let alone solo/with a main pawn only.

Exists in a perpetual state of Quantum Crotch Uncertainty.
I was a little worried about missing items in some of the darker areas, and so I bought a bunch of Acquisitor's Elixirs for my pawn. I think I might have gone overboard, though, because my pawn is now picking mushrooms and herbs during bandit ambushes.

Next person to use my pawn is going to discover they've got a complete goddamned kleptomaniac on their hands.

So I'm pretty sure that there's really not much need to start a new character if you want to explore all the vocations. I'm around level 40 and I'm feeling pretty strong enough to take on most anything. I don't think going around and using all the vocations with one character will severely affect your stats in the long run, because by the time you hit level 100 you're going to be super powerful.

I mean, I might want to start from scratch if I want the game to be super challenging again, but I don't know if I would start over just so I could try out Mystic Knight or something.

How rare are Rift Crystals? Is it particularly helpful to have the extra ones from the DLC?

Rift crystals aren't rare at all, I'm swimming in them. Enemies drop them sometimes and my pawn has brought me a ton. When I started the game today he gave me like 27k! Not sure how that works, he usually brings a few hundred.

Next person to use my pawn is going to discover they've got a complete goddamned kleptomaniac on their hands.

Gathering stuff in battle would be a problem, but pawns are bloody vacuum cleaners as it is. Damnit why are you carrying 10lbs of rocks, skulls and sticks? And stop picking up fish!

Works perfect to me:

HDMI
Samsumg LED SMART TV 3D
1080i (Minimun tearing)
Motion Plus on Clear (Minimun)
Intermediate
YCbCr

with 1080p tearing
with Motion Plus on Standard or Soft A LOT of tearing

They're just making sure you've got plenty of items to send home with their fellow pawns.

Mine was actually remarkably reticent to pick things up, which is why I decided to correct the problem. Now the pendulum's swung entirely too far in the other direction, though. If you could send custom messages when you sent pawns home I think it'd only be a matter of time before mine came back with "Picked flowers while cyclops chewed on me. Zero stars."

I love how you can "Castlevania" your strong attack as a sorcerer by jump canceling into the float. So basically if you want to spam your force wave thing, you jump, heavy, jump cancel, heavy again, and then your animation is reset once you hit the ground so you can repeat right after. Really fun and useful.

It's already crazy enough how each weapon enchantment changes up your regular attacks. Holy is one of my favorites. You get slow tracking orbs for regular shots, a strong barrage of holy arrows for the Mega Man charge shot, the orb shield looks cool (and probably homes, but I don't use this), and you have a chance to heal yourself with every hit that connects.

Next person to use my pawn is going to discover they've got a complete goddamned kleptomaniac on their hands.
