Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

Ok, so I took the plunge and spent the 180,000 on the forged idol.

The description is SLIGHTLY different (it says the forgery is "favored by fournival" though it does NOT say this for the true idol) and it still gives the shop discount (though it doesn't say what that shop discount is).

So it looks like the thing to do is give the true idol to your shopkeeper of choice (except fournival), and keep the forgery for the shop discount.

So, a question regarding these idols...

I just got the gold idol from that one quest. Earlier, I gave the bronze idol to Caxton and the silver idol to Madeline. Now neither of them grant me the option to give them the gold idol. Am I pretty much SOL until NG+?

I save this game as often as I quicksave in Fallout/Skyrim on PC. Every single time I kill a group of guys and I come out alive, I save. Only to find another group 5 steps away from me.

pointless. the game isn't THAT hard.

i want to buy this game but i couldn't figure out how to lockon to enemies in the demo and it made the combat kind of shitty for me, especially with 4 or 5 enemies coming at me and i can't pinpoint them individually. can you lock on to enemies?

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
There's soft lockon, in which your character will home in on the closest target when you attack but broadly speaking, no, you need to aim your attacks.

I think Magick Archers and Mages can lock on. Ranged combat, of course.

Faced and beat my first Cyclops (armored). Was a hell of a fight, but boy was it ever fun.

Honestly though, if it wasn't for the healing spring and my empty flasks, I would have been done for.

Dude, the first thing I did when I got to the capital of Gran Soren was the escort quest for that merchant that wants to go to the other side of the map. Bandits + every other nightmare in existence was found on the way.

Okay, so it looks like meeting the king only cancels the quests from maximillian. So if you did them all you should be good to advance without a worry.

So confused :(

you can't use your weapons at ALL inside the dukes castle. if you did the guards will come and arrest you. I let off some magic arrows just screwing around and got chucked in the dungeon. The game does warn you though.

Sorry dude, now I feel bad. I'll see if I can get one more. If I can, it's yours.

I would certainly appreciate it, but if not it's cool. Game's pretty packed with content anyway. Would def be awesome though.

Just in case anyone is wondering, I paid no cash for DD. Traded in SFxT, Yakuza Dead Souls, and Dark Souls for it. All of which I bought before my roommate bailed on me like an asshole and left me to pay for this entire apartment by myself. =/

I'm actually going to buy those quests... so far almost every quest has been pretty fun. Even escorts and fetch quests, are fun.

SO this arrived today and I've been playin g it a bit. Just got to Gran Soren and decided to give it a rest. Bit of a slow start but I'm enjoying it. I've got my band of merry pawns and I decided to make my arisen look like me (though I think I chose the wrong mouth because he always looks sad :( ).

What is up with the title music? It's insane! I didn't expect that. It's like, insane and crazy and like an awesome anime intro! I thought it'd be the nice song that was in the demo! I'm not complaining though. I love my cheesy anime intro J-rock songs with engrish singing.

I didn't though. I just walked in to deliver the escort and some guard ran up and was like "No use resisting". Seemed really random, especially since they specifically said "You're free to roam around here wherever you want".

Man, I'm gonna be stuck in the pawn creator forever...Dog is the perfect name for a pawn, though. My character is a young woman, so I think she'd be complimented well by a grizzly, tough old dude.

Anyone have the guide yet? I ordered mine. Dying to know just how much there really IS in this game..

Is there some certain point you need to reach before you can give them away? I've been sitting on the gold and bronze idols for ages with no idea they were useful for anything other than a discount.

Can you switch to every vocation? I've switched to strider but I'm just wondering.

Your Arisen can be every vocation, your Pawn can be the basic and advanced vocations (so no Mystic Knight, Magick Archer, or Assassin pawns, unfortunately).

Yup.

Someone had my pawn rented out, and he gave it 3 pieces of gear and level'd them up all the way too. Nice to see some people are pretty cool, god knows my storage is filled with enough rocks at this point.

So do you ever get to craft weapons/armor? Or is it mostly you just buying/finding it.

No real crafting, it's just used to upgrade equipment. Really wish it had crafting though.

Very cool, thanks. So how do these combinations work? I've read people say they want to make a magic archer. How would that be possible? Skill stuff?

sorry for the double post (in case no one posts before this) but I just saw this and I can give you the code that he gave me. sounds like you want it pretty bad and truth be told I'm fine with what the game is giving me on its own. I'll send you a PM.

Are sorcerers better than mages? My main pawn is a mage, if I changed would the sorcerer still use healing magic?

Sorcerers are pretty much pure offense. They give up the healing spells the Mages have in exchange for nastier attack spells. They're not quite the jacks of all trades that Mages are.

Thanks a lot, man. I really, really appreciate it. :D

Elginer, if you get that other code, please send it along to Brandon. ^^

Magic archer is one of the hybrid classes. I think from what people say on here they are able to lock on for when they fire their bows. I have never been one so I can't really say what they're capable of.

This helps a lot, thanks. I had just switched her to a sorceress but I think I'll switch back as a good healer seems mandatory.

Oh my, I just unlocked the skill that lets you set yourself on fire so enemies burn when you grab them.

I foresee getting a lot of use out of this.

Yeah, one of the things I'm not too chuffed with is how important it is to have a Mage in your party. I'd like it if there were more healing-capable classes to give a bit more versatility to your party composition.

Wait what classes can your pawn become. I thought it was just fighter, strider and mage.

Fighter, Warrior, Strider, Ranger, Mage, Sorcerer.

They can't be Mystic Knight, Magick Archer, or Assassin.
