Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

I fought the Ogre in the Everfall dungeon quest last night, died several times trying to kill him...until I grabbed on to his leg...

The ogre starts running around all crazy and runs of the ledge falling several floors to his death while I still held on.

Surprised to see I had survived the fall.

felt good :D

Just read a couple of reviews because of this thread. What a bunch of fucking idiots.

On the other hand, video game creators finally made an interesting escort mission. That journey with the ox cart from the one place you know, through a dark, winding road was crazy intense.

I came around the corner with half life, my lantern dimming. The last flickers of light hit a tree. Nestled in the branches were 4 harpies. They began to sing.

Battle was joined.

finally had time to play the opening part of the singleplayer last night. holy fuck this game is awesome. i can't wait to spend more time with it. * does running man, cabbage patch *

There is one thing that is bothering me about the game is the constant need to go into the menu & management inventory so I stay Light & not Average or Heavy.

I upgraded the augment to increase my weight carrying capacity & I still am going into my inventory & clean out the crap every few minutes.
I'm just carrying the equipment I'm wearing, no spare armor or weapons. I have about a dozen curatives I leave with.
The only thing is picking up random loot like bones & potions add up QUICK.

I'm thinking of wearing weaker armor just for the less weight they have.

Finally managed to beat the Quina Witchwood mission.

Spiders? Cake.
Wolves and goblins? Not a problem.
The fog in the woods? I can deal.
Cyclops? give me a few buddies and I'm fine.
Ogres? Okay, getting nasty. All my female party member are now bait, but it's alright.

Bandits? NO. NEVER. DO NOT TANGLE WITH THESE MEN.

The whole quest was pretty easy save for those goddamn bandits at the front of the woods. Holy hell if one of my pawns hadn't have run down a cliff and valiantly distracted half of them I wouldn't have been able to even get to the woods.

yeah, that was definitely a demon's souls type encounter :) . finally beat those bastards today (after several attempts), & it was very gratifying...

Just offload everything except for curatives into your storage. That way you can still upgrade weapons, but you don't have to worry about lugging that crap around.

I was a contest winner and just got my free DLC code. It's a "From a Different Sky" bundle pack. (708 KB lol)

Does this mean I get all 100 quests in the "From a Different Sky" quest series right away? Weeks in advance before everyone else who has to buy it?

I think so, I'm waiting on my code to get sent as well. Thanks for the heads up!

Wow.

Know what's better than completely destroying a cyclops?

Nuthin'.

I'm doing an escort quest and I realized that she would follow me into the fight and draw close to the beast. Couldn't risk it so I just stood back, watched my main pawn and the other two I selected and felt a burgeoning sense of pride as they completely merc'd the cyclops.

That's what I been doing all along & still having problems.
Seems my main armor/weapon/shield for my warrior mage takes up nearly 38Ibs.
Going over 42+ & I'm no longer Light.

The comet spell is just awesome to look at! My Pawn just learned it as well as spell called Fulmination that shrouds the entire party in lightning. The effects in this game are wonderful!

Wow, so my main pawn has been a fighter for his first 30 levels, but I made him a mage last night...

Today, he brought back 35k rift crystals AND he got higher ratings than usual. I didn't think a low rank mage with fighter stats would be that great

Not to say your guy isn't great. Rift crystals received isn't directly related to efficacy. (I think)

I believe RC received is related directly to how long someone uses your pawn for.

Yeah, I was mainly surprised at the high ratings he got. Ah well, certain things about him are quite nice, he has higher HP and defense than most mages and doesn't die too much

Jeez, I barely got 600 rift crystals but I am only level 17. Do you get more rift crystals when you have a higher level pawn?

I think it's more to do with how much the pawn is used, as the poster above said. I have frequently had my pawn return with under 1000 rift crystals before, but every so often I get the large sums like I got this time

God's had his chance.
Really hope sometime soon I can get my shit together and add a bunch of you to my friends list for pawn sharing. Would love to hear peoples adventures with Grimes the burly warrior. Surcoat and chainmail along with armored greaves and a big ass sword... full face helm. My pawn looks so much more baller than I do... save my dragon scale armor. Such a boss!

Damn I am getting slaughtered by (pretty early game spoiler)
the quest involving retrieving the grimoire from the thieves in the castle ruins

I found a couple scrap iron in the water god altar 1st floor but I don't know if the mine spots near there have scrap iron or not. I'd like to know if there's a good source of the stuff too.

The undead (armored) will drop scrap iron along with their rusted plate. I think it may depend on whether it's a "Captain" undead or a standard weaker version. But I've found a fairly decent amount.

Then you're probably at the wrong camp. Funny how this always comes up in this thread. Feels like I am the only one who, accidentally, went to the right camp first.

So the quest in Cassardis to catch
the thief is it meant to be doable? No matter how close I run up against him the grab won't work.

Yes.

My advice: pick a location(one of the shops being broken into) and just stay there. Eventually he'll show up to the one you're at; when he does, just grab him and voila, mission complete.

Fucking direwolves.

DODGING my attacks.

Clever bastards...

Yeah, they're quick, I'm surprised how quick some enemies are in the game and how moving around actually affect the combat, sometimes I just miss the strider type assholes because they move around so much.

Wolves often run away and come back to jump you, those bastards

I just
attacked him, mostly out of frustration, he went down, I seized my oppurtunity

Yes, you can catch him.
I caught him by failing twice and learning the route he would take. When I'd see him run up the road, I'd go wait by the steps he would come down. When he ran in front of me, I pressed RB to grab him.

Might take you a couple tries to grab him, though.

I gave me a lot of trouble since the thief moves like crazy. I noticed he went behind the building where the medic lady is; the one that gives you the flower quest. Well the thief sometimes goes behind that building between the ledge and broken wall and he has to come out, So I just cornered him there. That building is to the left of the INN when from inside out.

Ok, so i snagged the gold idol to get better stuff, but there's also the option to forge a copy.

Forging the copy however is about 180,000 Gold. Is there a benefit to this? I can't find a straight answer.

The more I play, the more I love how simultaneously familiar and alien this game is. It's understandable that some things about it can rub people the wrong way, but I love it. I love preparing for a long journey, finishing a quest, and simply standing there after it's done. "Well...that's that. I guess it's time to travel back now. How are we on items?" So many games are missing this! Yes, it's not very mindful of a player's time, making them take this extra step before beginning the next, but I love it. I absolutely love it. The game is not distilled; it's about existing in the world. It's about everything that happens between points A and B. Taking away things like easy fast travel makes everything mean so much more. Along with the physicality of interacting with your surroundings, there's this overwhelming feeling of permanence that people have grown to love in games like Demon's and Dark Souls. It brings me back to my first experiences with Morrowind. Little things like items slowly expiring over time are deceptively big.

It just struck me when I was trying to kill a third golem for that notice board quest. As a sorcerer, I can't do much against them, and my party isn't that optimized for killing them. The only feasible way to kill them within a reasonable amount of time is channeling an Exequy while munching on stamina items. I made the day-long trek over to the only place I've found one so far. The battle begun, and I suddenly noticed I wasn't prepared. I realized it right then and there: Dragon's Dogma is fruitlessly jumping onto said golem, looking your main pawn in the eye, and telling him that you forgot to bring mushrooms.

I agree that some things could've been handled better and made more accessible to those who don't have time or willpower to properly invest in this sort of experience. Whatever.

Haha, yeah, it's awful in the best way. I haven't been this glued to the TV since the great Skyrim weekend of '11. DD is a dreadfully addictive game. Let me level up one more time. Let me upgrade one more weapon. Let me survive one more night in the wild. You'll start at 8:00 PM and before you know it it's 3 in the morning. Fuck.
I'm sure the addictive quality has something to do with how well the game moderates your rewards. I feel like I can get what I want with a little work, but something I want more is always just slightly out of reach. And when I can finally get it, something even cooler appears.

I'm not sure if there's more then one idol in the game. If not, then forging a copy will allow you to give it to both of the shops asking for it.

see here's the thing.

There are three idols- a bronze, a silver, and a gold. and you can forge copies of all three. however, some people are saying that giving a forged idol is worse than giving a bronze. there are also shop discounts associated with them, but i don't know if the copies grant the bonus as well.

ugh
