Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

heh, that soul flayer dungeon is pretty good, as mentioned before. In short time, I've gotten chimera armor, a triple hammer, and a griffon cape. All equiped on my never used Pawn, Nick Saban. Apparently, people don't like Nick Saban.

Have you gone to sleep? Sometimes it takes a while to update I guess.

maybe i'm not getting the quest system. i pick a main quest, then put "show me on the map" and it is always out in the middle of nowhere. how are you supposed to identify where you need to go?

Are we talking about the same Soul Flayer dungeon? Because the one I went to only had a gargoyle as a top tier enemy, and I sure never found the cool stuff you guys are talking about.
It's the one that gives you a shortcut past the ladies thieves fortress to the Great Wall.

So, face a cyclops on a narrow precipice, and your main pawn gets thrown off to his death state at the bottom of the dungeon...what happens if he dies dies?

Quick question: When I accept the Duke's Directive will it end ALL of my current quests, including the board notice ones?

Just those wyrm hunt quests maximillan gave you. Like the 4 he gives you.

Summon them back at a Rift Stone.
Any penalty? Lost gear?

Hah, nevermind, I decided I had just saved, so I just off to my doom...

Just to land in deep water, causing me to pop back next to my dead guy. But at the bottom of the dungeon.

I had some hired pawns carrying stuff for me. I had one of them carry a hammer for me and it was high for me (303 atk) and all my pawns fell off a cliff and died. I was like "oh man my items!"

But I found all the items had been sent to the storage at the inn.

So, basically, even if pawns carrying stuff die, you don't lose your precious cargo. =)

Can anyone tell me what these reviewers were thinking? I know it was Diablo week and everyone wanted to get back to that, but it seems like they were absolutely dismissive with this game. Some of the reviews I have read are so vague, and nonchalant and they speak nothing about the insane depth and surprises that this game holds. I know its not as accessible or as brain dead as Skyrim, but good God, some of these reviews are scandalous.

There's not really a penalty for pawn death. If you have a hired one you really like and they die, you can only rehire the updated one which may be leveled a lot higher and cost a lot. That's the only real downside to them dying, and that obviously doesn't happen with the main one.

I have no idea how else to say this. This game fucking rocks. I love the Elder Scrolls. Love it.

But this shits on it in every conceivable way.

Gaf,

Can someone run a quick summary of the differences between the xbox and ps3 versions?

This game went from "not interested" to "must hav right now!"

This has been discussed quite a bit here, but basically you either flip a coin or decide based on these preferences:

- PS3 vs 360 controller
- Trophies vs Achievements
- PSN friends vs XBL friends
- Frame rate drops on PS3 vs screen tearing on 360

Seems that guy wasn't kidding when he had to leave on a trip and he needed some brat escorted around the city.

Was out doing other stuff for a few minutes and the quest failed.

wtf.....PS3 freezes with 1 bar left on the dragon after an hour long fight

Yea....no thanks. Can't believe you're unable to save during this.

Hell yeah! Check out the wolf helmet I just picked up.

Please tell me that's not a particularly rare helmet to find. I was really hoping for a helmet like that for my Sandor Clegane to wear, and was pretty sure there wouln't be one like it in the game and I'd have to make do without. And yes, I know that its not a Dog, but they look similar enough for me.

Looks like Magick Archer just isn't great for fighting the Ur-Dragon.

I think the Magick Archer is really good for handling most every situation, but lacks any real killer moves. I'm good at stopping masses of enemies, exploiting a few elemental weaknesses, getting in close or getting stuff at range. Just not the best at boss fighting unless there's an easily exploitable elemental weakness.

When it comes to the boss off all bosses that becomes really apparent. Oh well.

heh, after all that stuff earlier with my pawn, just as I'm leaving the dungeon, somehow, I lose a hired pawn. Dawn, who I think is someone's pawn. Just disappeared. Hope my stuff made it back to storage...

I found it during the main quest when trying to overtake
the Shadow Fort

an now came across an enclave of female thieves, and it was all going smoothly, till Nick Motherfucking Saban walked in. Unleashing 20+ Female Ninja's. Things went hairy, but since I was fighting on top of a giant gate, 100 feet above the ground, Numerous Fire Spells casted a many Ninja to their doom below.

Now I have a gate.

Hope I didn't need to talk to anyone there later...

Exists in a perpetual state of Quantum Crotch Uncertainty.
My poor pawn has been so unpopular ever since I maxed out Warrior and switched to Strider. Not a lot of demand for yon basic bow class roundabouts level 40, I guess.

Last question before I am going to buy it.

Are the quests original or always the same?

The quests all vary. You have your kill x mobs quests, escort quests, fetch item quests, and then there's all of the story quests which vary greatly. One (which admittedly annoyed me earlier) even involved groups of armed (and very aggressive) assassins that were waiting in the night to assault you in different locations.

On top of that you have the fact that completely different mobs come out at night compared to the day, so there's lots of variation even in just traveling. That empty field by day might now contain a special surprise on your way back across it at night.

I switched to Magick Archer, and I am a little iffy about it currently. I don't mind the lock-on for some of the weapon skills, but for general firing, I don't really like it. I love the damage output, though, especially against Saurians. Dayum.

I really miss the long range sniping ability of the Ranger, though. I'm glad we can switch back anytime without any loss of progress in our earlier vocations.

How similar to an offline MMO is this? I could have sworn I read a post about corpse runs, which immediately peaked my interest.

I ended up restarting my character because I felt like I went to Gran Soren too soon and missed some earlier quests. I just now finished the first Witchwood quest. I had to sacrifice a Pawn to get through armored bandits outside the forest (RIP Rook) but I got through and was able to complete the quest right before nightfall.

Completing the quest was a serious rush and sense of accomplishment. This game rules.

It's a bit like an MMO where you can grind dungeons (loot and mobs respawn) and you're always able to "group" with pawns so you have a party going. The combat and everything is obviously a lot better than what you normally find an MMO, though.

I've noticed that my pawns even tend to do some shit that people in actual MMO's do. I'll be sitting still and they'll be running back and forth jumping inside things, busting up crates, and just generally being restless :p

When I change my vocation, say from strider to ranger I can keep some of the strider skills right? Don't want to be a weakling all of a sudden.

I have a question about the Witchwoods.

There is a golem or something blocking a door. It looks like a pile of rocks, but if you look closely you can see it is actually some big creature in child's pose. How do you get it to move? I tossed explosive barrels at it and tried hitting it, but nothing works.

Thanks in advance.

Also, this game rocks! I've got like 4 new friends on PSN from GAF thanks to this game. Its definitely going to be on my top 5 at the end of the year, I can just tell.

Ok, that sounds awesome. I'll probably pick it up early next week.

A "real" single-player MMO is something I've wanted since the original Everquest. My dream game would be party mechanics like you described, but old-school difficulty and grinding, with practically unreachable end-game content. I'd even like to camp bosses for rare drops.

You keep all the dagger skills, but the bow skills change. They're largely the same, but much more powerful than Strider's. You're able to retain the core skills and augments, it seems.

You never lose your progress, but some skills are limited to the originating vocation. So, you might train up 6 skills but only 3 of them will be available when you change vocations. They make sure that you're never suddenly a whimp. You'll have enough skills to rip through mobs just fine when you change, trust me.

I've done it twice now going from strider to assassin and assassin to magic archer and while the initial abilities you start with are of course a bit weak, you can utilize the abilities from the other classes to support you. I'm pretty much a walking death machine at the moment after maxing out strider/assassin and combining what I learned from those with magic archer (and I'm only up to lvl 4 in magic archer which took about 1~ hour to get)
