Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

Later on are there enough skill points to buy most of the skills without running out? I'm nervous about buying skills early on and then not having enough if I want to switch classes.

You get them from combat... just grind for 'em if you need them.

I got grudge sucked!
I'm escorting Mercedes to Shadow tower now and I made it to an abandoned miner's storeroom. Are there any places to camp around here or I just need to wait out the night?

Man, in NG+ nothing can touch you, it's kind of crazy. Also, I'm seeing tons of pawns on the roadside wearing Mercedes' gear as a full set. Where are people getting this?

Same here. But I'm still quite early on and this woman is stupid.. just keeps going forward even though she gets killed so easily... ughh!!!!!! That's why I keep saving after every battle and reloading if she gets herself killed (happens a lot)

I'm out at night, actively trying to find undead warriors, yet they are not coming in droves like they usually do. If I wasn't trying to find them, and get back to the city, they'd be swarming me.

Everyone keeps mentioning camps, but whenever I discover abandoned buildings with beds or campsites I don't get thd option to rest.

The smaller campsites will have a merchant that will give you a rest option. Only the campsites which are shown on the map. There's only a few though.

There are several camps, and I think they're all called Traveler's Rest. You'll see a Gran Soren guardsman there, and you speak to him to sleep, or send items back to storage (you can't withdraw at camps). You may have to progress so far into the main story (not far at all, a couple of quests in Gran Soren) before you'll have the option to sleep at them.

Oh my god, I just passed through a river where there happened to be about five thousand pissed off Saurians. I can deal with them individually, but that shit was ridiculous. Good thing I can outrun the bastards.

EDIT - Didn't survive much longer. Ended up being ambushed by high level bandits aided by an armored Cyclops. Yeah, I'm out of my element here.

This is how you make an exploration RPG.

What kind of stuff should I be doing to make my pawn more likely to get hired by other players? Right now I have a Fighter (Guardian) with a few skills and some equipment from Gran Soren that I just picked up. I upgraded a few of the skills with the little DC I had. Hope that's enough to get other players to hiring them.

Make it a young adolescent female.

This game needs a helm toggle option.

Is it me or are very few people on here at least using the mage class as their main?

I'm using it so far because I don't think my character looks good in a suit of armor or as a Strider.

I'm on the fence about it so far, it's basically a slow shooter with a lock on mechanic. I just blast fireball or other projectiles, heal every now and then, and try to cast Boons on everyone's weapons (which is a complete pain in the ass).

The mage class could be why Im not noticing too much difficulty so far. Made it through escort to Gran Soren with no big issues.

Great impressions reading this thread. I'm still on the fence about this game.

Is what I've heard about the actual world being like 1/6th the size of the in game map true?

Mages are the most necessary pawn class, but they also seem to be the most common. Lots of Mages seem to have kind of naff loadouts, though. I always look for ones that have High Anodyne, High Halidom, two elemental attack spells, and two weapon enchantments, which is a pretty rare skill selection, all told.

I'm not really sure how important physical appearance is, really, beyond whether or not your pawn is wearing good gear. I might be an outlier in how picky I am about my party composition, but seeing skill selections on pawns that I like is uncommon enough that I've not got any inclination to further narrow my options by giving a shit about appearance.

Actually controlling a mage is pretty boring, all told. I'm not a big fan of the staff-based magics because of how long you spend channelling them, to say nothing of how you need to worry about healing and whatnot in the middle of combat. I used a staff for a while when I switched to Mystic Knight until I got some good sword and mace skills to play around with, and it was pretty much dull as dishwater.

It's kind of an ideal pawn class. Lots of standing still charging things, not a lot of shooting things in the eye and climbing on them. Pretty boring.

I started as a mage and kind of liked how it played, but magic felt a bit too unwieldy for me so I switched to the strider class. Definitely want to play around with it more later though, some of the more powerful spells seem incredible.

Damn it, I grabbed onto a
snow

If you die and hit retry it shouldn't be TOO far back. Just don't restart at checkpoint, it's always worthless.

I think I really like this even though I sorta hated it when I started.

I had heavy reservations before I got this, but still decided to go for it. Glad I did. Thanks to some low expectations going in, I've loved it from the start, and that only grows the more I play.

15 feet? You should be fine. I fell from higher heights then that, and only suffered some moderate damage. Restore all your health before you fall, and I'm sure you'll survive. Unless she drops you over a cliff...

I'm still not too clear on the save system. When the game autosaves is that a checkpoint or does it overwrite your current save? I really wish they just let you make multiple saves.

Crisis averted, my pawn managed to headshot it with several arrows, and it actually started to flounder around abit. Luckliy I somehow held on with just one hand, and as soon and let go right near the edge of a cliff lol. Thanks for the heads up on being able to use items whenever. Had no idea you could access your inventory even in the middle of an action.

Going to have to post shots of the trip too and from the
healing
spring escort quest...because that was nuts.

Oh my. Is it particularly common to experience mass pawn suicide at the top of
Bluemoon Tower
?

I was just standing there taking in the view for a second when all three of my pawns lemming'd right off the edge practically in unison. Took me a minute to even comprehend what had just happened.

Just had the most epic battle against an armored cyclops at night. By the end, my entire crew was down and I was hanging from it's back, desperately gouging away with my daggers. It took a long time, but toppling that fucker felt so good. This game owns.

Just had my first Drake battle. Shit was crazy. I was ambushed in the middle of the night by it and a group of goblins. Instead of running (I'm lvl 42) I just went in head first. The battle took about a half hour to complete (cause he would get in the air and then I'd lose him in the dark), but it was really epic. At the end he starts getting enraged and talking shit to me, then he does this spin attack and knocks out all of my pawns. I had to keep reviving them (even my tank was getting fucked up) while trying to inflict damage from a distance with my (magic) bow.

I really need to find a new bow... this thing is NOT doing enough damage lol.

The beginning of Dragon's Dogma is lackluster, showing you potential but also jank. Graphics look like shit as well in daylight settings. Game turns around in such a big way though.

This game does some amazing things.

Please tell me that the cyclops for the quest 'the conspirators' didn't have the letter. It fell off the cliff so I can't loot him.

I never found a single new magic bow until
giving the Golden Idol to the shopkeeper in Gran Soren
, at which point I had pretty much maxed out the Magick Archer class and wasn't really interested in paying fat stacks of cash to upgrade a weapon I was going to be retiring shortly. I spent my entire Magick Archer career using the Magian Crutch, in the end.

Does anyone else find Magick Archer to be rather overpowered? Especially when you add elemental buffs. I take down Direwolves in three shots (when buffed with fire). I am killing these female bandits with one or two shots of Three Burst Arrow. That arrow rain ability is amazing against a group of harpies, though. Targets up to 5 of them, and grounds them all at once. I love it.

I've found the secret to enjoying this game as a Strider. Ensare, Toss and Trigger, get a combo in when they're on the ground, rinse and repeat.

Is there a penalty for killing random NPCs out in the wilderness? Every time I come across a pawn whose name I don't like, I toss them off a cliff.

You're not so great against bigger enemies compared to other vocations.

Just about every class, except maybe the Mage, is OP when you use them right and use the exploits that every enemy has.

That's what I'm afraid of. Unfortunately, I did that quest and out-ran the bitch in it before reading about it in this thread, so never got that item and thus no shop upgrades. I'm certain that I've already blown my chances at getting the others as well, so in that respect I might actually end up gimped for this first play through =\

I have a question about the Witchwoods.

There is a golem or something blocking a door. It looks like a pile of rocks, but if you look closely you can see it is actually some big creature in child's pose. How do you get it to move? I tossed explosive barrels at it and tried hitting it, but nothing works.

Thanks in advance.

Also, this game rocks! I've got like 4 new friends on PSN from GAF thanks to this game. Its definitely going to be on my top 5 at the end of the year, I can just tell.

Anyone?

He actually sells two of them, it's likely you can unlock the weaker of the upgrades with the Silver or Bronze Idols. I don't think it's possible to miss out on the Silver Idol, it's
a reward for a quest from the Gran Soren Pawn Guild notice board
. It should appear
as soon as you have your meeting with the Duke.

It wakes up as part of a quest later in the game. There's nothing you can do to wake it up yet.

How many hours did it take you guys to get properly set-up and prepared for adventure? I'm only gonna get one period in which to play this before next weekend, and I'm not sure if I can be bothered to spend that one night with customisations screens and tutorials, so might just wait til next Saturday

I'd say that from starting the game to having a full party of pawns and going on whichever quests I chose took me about an hour to an hour and a half. I didn't spend much time on character creation and basically just went with a slightly tweaked default appearance for both my main character and my pawn, though, so adjust accordingly based on your need to customize.
