Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

how do you put your pawn into the rift for people to get? or does that happen automatically?

When you have your pawn, whenever you sleep, your pawn gets updated on the server to reflect how he/she is in his/her current form. That's the pawn people will see and use when they hire him/her. If he/she has been released before you sleep next time, you may awake to find your pawn has returned from being used and it'll list all the people who used him/her and the rewards.

I'd love the freaking game if i could figure out how to equip the Lantern in the dark or in a dungeon...kinda sick of walking in complete darkness.

I Have 5 flasks of oil and two lanterns. One assigned to Arisen the other to my main pawn.
yet I can NEVER equip the lantern nor does it toggle on when it gets dark .... which is kinda important.

When i hit the inventory screen no tools or hlpr items are ever present...only armor and weapon..WTH???
in town i can see everything when i sell to a merchant.

I'm surely missing something..god i hope so.... or it's a VERY stupid mechanic...or bug.

They tell you how in the prologue...how'd you miss that?

Okay, so I got the silver idol and
made a copy so I was able to turn it into both shop keepers
but the shops have all the same items. Is there something else that I need to do to trigger the new stock, or does a certain period of time have to pass in-game?

They still need to stock the items, so check back after about 2 or 3 in-game days.

I'm still a Strider at level 16. I figure I may as well try and max out the profession before switching to an advanced class. I'm probably going to go for Assassin as my next class.

I went back to the first town to get revenge on the stupid lizards in the well. I was pretty over-leveled by the time I made it back, so they went down really quickly. The bonus to trekking all the way back there was that I was able to complete the "Kill 45 rabbits" quest in short order. The reward of 50,000 gold seems insanely high, but I'm not complaining.

It's so tempting to stay up all night playing. This game is crazy addictive.

I think handing in a forgery will actually make the shop have WORSE items. That's what I've been reading about anyway. Kinda curious what does happen though.

You know, this game has some really weird things going on...

Just now I escorted Mercedes (?) all the way to where she wanted to go, while fighting against a million wolves, a chimera, and almost getting killed by a dragon and a million zombie things (or whatever they are, not the skeleton ones!).

Then she just says thanks, gets inside, I try to get inside as well and the place is goddamn empty with one door on the back, which happens to be close.

For all the good things this game has going on, some other stuff is just so... weird.

Thanks. Took 3 days of resting at the inn. Got my bow, so I'm happy.

So far Madeline's inventory hasn't changed, so no idea if it has any kind of negative effect.

I love this game.

Tomorrow, when I'm not so tired... I'm going to write a post about these environments. This world is incredibly well crafted.

Oh man...that book you get to see during the credits, that's such a good idea. This game has ALL kinds of great little gems like that.

Been playing the game for 4-6 hours now, and it's really unique.
Since I'm changing vocations all the time to learn the basics, I keep running out of money and only have crap gear, but kind of settling on Strider/Ranger/Magic Archer for my main and Mage for my pawn.

In all my hours and 17 levels I never got further than the main city and back, and always ran from the bigger trolls and threatening enemies, although I decided to brave a dungeon which ended up with a big ass monster at the end and bested him and his eye.
It was amazing!

I just wish money was easier to come by, so I don't nerf myself by buying too much crap gear and later selling it for half the price...

Even the crap gear is alright for much of the game... I'm getting into lvl 30ish now, but up to this point, I'd still wear some of the early stuff, because I liked the way it looked, instead of more expensive newer gear. It's all about upgrading.

And the game basically lets you control the difficulty with the pawn system. I've been running with lower level pawns for a while now to keep the combat interesting. But if I felt disadvantaged or something, I could recruit better pawns.

Great. Just killed a Drake and Dragon Forged my Daggers, which I'm only using while I level up Magic Archer. Nnngh. Out leveled my previous sword.

So reviews seem to show this game is pretty average but most of the impressions are very good. I'm thinking of buying this or The Witcher 2. Which one would be the better purchase?

What interests you more, a great story? (Witcher 2) Or amazing combat / exploration? (Dragons Dogma).

I don't know what Im doing wrong, but I can't kill fuck all.

Done the start quests, and protected the hydra head to the capital. It is as if I can't take any damage combined with very low dps. I just got killed again by a skeleton in the first pawn guild quest underneath the capital.

Frustrating to say the least.

For all the good things this game has going on, some other stuff is just so... weird.

Yeah, I think it's because a lot of technical stuff are pretty oldschool and they cut corners for some of those stuff, npcs doesn't stay after you escort them so they just disappear to avoid having further problems, and a lot of stuff are just kind of there due to gameplay even down to some of "clipping" problems where they let you slash through some objects so they don't get in your way and saving resources.

The game often reminds you it's a video game that takes you out of the world when it comes to questing and interacting with the npcs, but the game hits hard when you're being led into doing the combat and adventuring, exploring the world, I really wish they'd have a bigger team than what they already have and polish the hell out of all of it.

The game has a lot attention to details to almost everything, but at the same time there are a lot of quirks in every aspects

Can you clarify the "dragon forge" part? So if you kill a Drake you can forge your current equipment to what?

Dragon Forged is basically 4 Star Upgrade to your gear. As far as I can tell when you kill a Drake you have a chance for random gear to be upgraded. I was a Magic Archer and got my Daggers, Chest Armor, Leg Armor and Cape. It's a Red Cross-y looking thing where the stars would be.

Go back and quest/grind near the starter town and encampment.

Yeah, that trek is pretty annoying. Just run past all the bandits; those archers will murder you easily.
Just beat the game. The post game is batshit insane, I certainly did not expect this.
Can you tell me how many main missions are left?

I just killed that Mage at the Bluemoon tower.

My quest to create the perfect DQ8 Yangus would see me paying shocking amounts of £ for a half-decent cockney voice-type.

For people's future reference, when/if you buy the 'Metaphorphosis' item at the RC vendor (5,000rc, lets you fully re-edit both Arisen and Main Pawn), it won't show up in your inventory anywhere -- you have to return to Title Screen where there's a new option below Load Game.

Pic of everyone with all their new armor (my pawn is in the center with a hired pawn to the left. I'm on the right).

Really loving the look on my pawn. I found/bought some great stuff for him tonight while I was out exploring. Started a journey that was intended to take me to a fort with a certain NPC at it and it ended up being a 3 hour long journey where I was fighting gargoyles, tons of snow harpies, Chimera's, Cyclops, and finally an undead mage.

Overall, still having an amazing time in this game. I have magic archer at 9/10 and it's definitely overpowered, especially with that ability that shoots a ball of light. Also, the ability that lays a trap on the ground and traps anything that walks inside of it is pretty crazy too. I set one of those up in a hairy battle and then stand in it and shoot away with my arrows. If anything manages to get close enough to attack me it just gets stunned/trapped by that ability and become easy pickings.

I'm not certain if I want to change to an entirely new class or stick with the strider/assassin/magic archer thing. I don't really want to tank, so fighter is out and warrior doesn't interest me much. I think the others would probably be a bit eh.

Stick with it and kill what you can to earn money to improve/enhance your gear as well as to level up your strength, health and SKILLS, you'll stumble onto some skill or another that makes everything zen and it'll click, i guarantee it.

I've been using these 2 pawns for the last 7 levels because I'm too lazy to swap them out

I wonder how much RC will these dudes get

where the heck i can find a gransys herb ? it should be common, but it's an hour that i waste time searching for it...

I *think* I found a bunch of these around the time I got to the capital. Probably the fields outside. Apologies in advance if I'm misremembering!

EDIT: having just typed that, I slept at the Inn in the starter town, walked downstairs and there's a pot of Gransys Herbs right in front of me on the kitchen partition. It's probably a random item spawn, but give it a shot.

Haha me too. I have a pawn I've been using since level 30 and I'm level 43... She's still level 30 and still works great. XD
Whoever owns her is going to get some massive rift crystals

So maybe I just missed it. How do I dismiss my pawn to go solo?

kill him.

other Question:

How can i change the primary inclination of my pawn?

mine is guardian, pretty stupid for a sorcerer, he barely attacks -.- secondary i changed to scather with these rift shop potions... i tried the knowledge chair several times, seems only to change the secondary and speech rate. is it even possible to change the primary inclination? if not i have to switch him back to mage and make him a pure healer then ...

I'm about to start my first character and I have no idea what class to pick. I prefer a decent challenge my first time through but prefer to save the higher difficulty playthrough for my next time after I've absorbed the ins and outs of the game.
