$50/hour, but no kissing on the lips and colors must be pre-separated
Via engadget.com...

Did you or do you own an IBM Deathstar Deskstar 75GXP drive? You know, one of the ones that were once notorious for having crashed and burned due to what we might lightly refer to as severe manufacturing defects? Certainly you’d know if you did, since so very many people lost data running on that drive; if you were one of them (or just own one of the drives, for that matter), pass go and collect $100 from Big Blue! Owners of DTLA 307-015, 020, 030, 045, 060, or the 075 are entitled to a Benny thanks to a nationwide class action settlement enacted today—you’ve got until August 29, 2005 to file, fools. Oh, and just in case you were curious, yes, their stock took a few dollars of a dip today, too.

Aw shit, thanks dude. I had no idea. I got a clunker 30gig sitting in my closet.

Fucking A, to get the $100 you have to have contacted IBM for help, requested an RMA, or be in some bullshit database built by some lawyers (WTF?).

Can't I just record the clunking sound or some shit? Bastards.

If you can't provide the above proof, you can get 25 CDRs, or 15% off IBM.com coupon.

Damnit.

I've got one of the 75s, though it's been running fine nonstop 24 hours a day for like four years now. Can I have $100 please?

There's no chance of getting the money. How many people actually contacted IBM about their dead drive(s) AND have it on record?

I have two of those drives. FUCK FUCK FUCK no bennies for me i guess. But i'll take teh cds anyways.

Hold up

QUOTE:

Q. How do I know if I am a Class Member?

A. The Class is defined as: All persons and entities in the United States who, during the period March 15, 2000 through March 4, 2005, purchased for their own use and not for resale or distribution: (1) a new Qualifying Deskstar 75GXP from IBM or any entity authorized by IBM to sell such 75GXP; or (2) a pre-assembled computer system that contained as a component a new Qualifying Deskstar 75GXP. Excluded from the Class are IBM employees and those persons who have executed releases releasing IBM from liability concerning or encompassing any or all claims that are the subject of this Action.

So i guess were still in teh running?

Q. What are the Settlement Benefits?

A. There are two categories of benefits with respect to each Qualifying Deskstar 75 GXP, and each Class Member may request and is eligible to receive only one of these categories of benefits. The categories are: (

1) all Class Members who purchased a Qualifying Deskstar 75GXP and have experienced a “disk drive failure” (an actual material problem with its performance, as evidenced by a record either in

(a) IBM’s Technical Support Center database;
(b) IBM’s Return Material Authorization database; or
(c) the “IBM 75GXP” database maintained by the Sheller Ludwig & Badey law firm as of February 15, 2005)
and meet the other Settlement eligibility criteria are eligible to receive a check for $100; and

(2) all Class Members who purchased a Qualifying Deskstar 75GXP and have not experienced disk drive failure are eligible to receive their choice of either 25 blank CD-ROMs (with jewel cases) or a 15% Discount Certificate for a future purchase at IBM.com.

Maybe if you are planning on getting a thinkpad or something... but didn't they sell their computer business to some dude in China?

Well shit thats a crap way getting out of that. Those things are suppost to have a good warranty arent they? I'm gonna call them anyways just so i'm in the computer, then i'll file. PAPA needs himself some money.
