Saw it on digg earlier and wanted to share. I don't want to spoil it, but I was blown away with how much length there is to the chain, and how it was dropped. How long must it take to make one of those?nand why would you have it manually operated in this century?

I would not be standing directly behind it trying to slow it down. I think at that point you can sort of tell it's beyond the point of no return. Hell that fire, those fumes, the risk of getting whipped when it finally breaks, no chance.

Yeah, the whole time I was like "Dudes. It's over. Let it go and get to safety ffs."

terrifying display of physics

looked like mechanical failure to me, the guy on the wheel was spinning to no avail

Hey, you scratched my anchor!

Holy Shit I can't believe they are just standing around watching. One of those links come flying off and it obliterate you.

Shit, each of those links are something like 500 lbs each. I'd be off the boat on my way to Nantucket long before that chain finally busted out.

If that chain whips out or a hunk of it flies off (which you can see it did at the end) it can easily decapitate a person, cut them in two halves, or turn their heads into oatmeal.

Indeed. I saw someone almost lose a finger from a lawnmower cable snapping off after getting caught in the engine. This would destroy you.

Just sitting here watching it slowly move alone...and suddenly it goes mach 5

Never knew those things were so long lol.

Why were they filming him in the first place?

Digg still exists?
What kind of person frequents it...
Huelens and people who love Digg and loathe Reddit.

Yeah, the length of the chain surprised me too. Can we assume the see floor they were over was deeper than the chain was long?
Feel bad for the guy who was in charge of the break. However that job also looks really boring at the beginning.

Edit: now I can't stop watching anchor accidents on youtube

Jesus, imagine that even if no one was smoothed, the back pain or bones breaking from the impact is very real. I hope no one got permanently fucked.
