Driveclub PS Plus Edition Delayed by Server Issues

But didn't Rushy post a long letter to explain everything? What if Sony asked him to? Would that count? Depending on what's causing the issue, the only ones that can intelligently explain the issue would be Evo and not Sony.

At the end of the day, a free* game is getting delayed by a couple days, while we got 6 others to fool around with in the meantime. Yes, I was looking forward to it. I still am. Patience is a virtue, I guess?

That'd be fine. All they need to do is post that on the PS Blog. As of right now, it's an official statement by the dev, not the pub. That's not enough, for me.

I don't even give a shit about Driveclub. For me, it's more about the miscommunication. Driveclub's issues are *not* as big of a deal as it was when PSN was hacked, but, after the way Sony waited forever to let us know, we should never, ever let them slide on miscommunication again.

This very well may not be a Sony/PSN issue. It's quite possible that Driveclub has an obscure bug or something and it's community connectivity is causing each PS4 to ping the servers so often it ends up being like a DDOS attack. Or countless other possibilities. If so, 'Sony' might not know what the issue is yet, it could be completely in Evo's court.

The fact is, nobody here knows exactly what's going on. The only thing we do know is that problems started on release, so they had over 12 hours or so to realize that they shouldn't release the ps+ version.

You wouldn't see people defending this if others weren't coming up with crazy ideas like 'Sony is shady and trying to get more sales'. That's absurd on its face, and will cause people to post in defense.

Sane, reasonable posts like "This stinks, but as long as we get it soon I'll be fine. At least I have 6 other ps+ games to play in the meantime." generally get agreement all around.

We received 6/6 games yesterday, didn't we? This was a 7th bonus game.
Let's try to understand why the "crazy posts" are popping up. THAT is Sony's fault. They left us in the dark all day yesterday. If they had responded right away and said something in their blog post, the conspiracies would have no credence. Sony handed people the opportunity to speculate. It's their own stupidity to blame.

Has it? Sony hasn't said a word. A facebook post by the dev is not enough. The publisher is the one who decides when people can download it.

I don't know, but, if that's the game they're going to play with their consumers, they're going to lose business. Telling consumers "give us $50 and you can totally download this game on Tuesday" and then not releasing, and then saying "well, in the ToS it's all subject to change without notice?" Fuck that. Yes, that's legal, but, yes, we'll stop using the service.

As someone who has had PS+ since day one, the service *was* the free games. When it came about that multiplayer was now under it, I thought "that sucks, but, at least I'm getting awesome games out of it." And, now, not only has PSN been schizophrenic as shit since PS4 launched, but, now I'm missing games with no explanation?

As someone who has had PS+ since day one, PS+ has not always had free games.

bad analogy time:

You hire a caterer. the caterer is like "Hey man thanks for hiring us as a bonus we'll bring a tray of cinnamon rolls" and then the caterer shows up and says "damn man we forgot the cinammon rolls can we bring em later?" and then you decide to burn their building down.

This made me laugh more than it should.

Feels like this is only not up because the game isn't very good, and they're trying to get as many sales from the uninformed.

Maybe I'm just sensing extra bullshit from their previous excuse of delaying the game because of the menus.

Its weird that with the PS4, Sony seems to be having a lot of trouble hitting on all cylinders on the actual first party gaming side of things.

Knack was not terribly well received. Killzone and Infamous were not standouts among their series counterparts. The Order has drawn extensive criticism either for the belief that it will barely be a game, or at least that it has been presented that way. Driveclub was delayed and the PS+ edition was downgraded and is now late, while servers are failing for the full release.

They had so much goodwill after E3 2013, they have done so well with marketing and selling the system, yet somehow the meat and potatoes of gaming has been fairly half baked (I'm hungry, so food metaphors).

Indies are the lifeblood of the PS4 right now, MLB The Show seems to have done well, and they are benefiting from last gen remasters. But otherwise, I feel like they keep coming up short of delivering on the promise of bringing back the feeling of the original Playstation.

LBP3 and Bloodborne will hopefully deliver, so I'm not entirely pessimistic here, but this Driveclub news is definitely disappointing. It just makes them seem overwhelmed and unprepared to execute what they presumably planned as their strategy with the PS4.

In a way I suppose there is a silver lining here. If Driveclub PS+ Edition was available, I would be playing it and might not have given Pix the Cat, Dust, and Spelunky a try.

Well it doesn't seem like everyone gets that, seeing how the word "free" keeps popping up.

Because the vast majority of us are perfectly fine calling them free. I consider them free. I know I pay $0.41 per game --- though as I probably save more than the sub price a year just on ps+ sale discounts, I could actually argue the ps+ games -are- free for me.

Arguing against the use of the term 'free' is silly, it's like telling your buddy that a 'buy 1 get 1 free' sale actually means you're just getting 50% off on both... no shit, sherlock.

People calling them 'free' understand they aren't free. But it's the word we universally adopted to mean "not quite free but almost free because even though we pay for a service we get piles of piles of games included for a nominal per-game charge'.

I can't believe I got roped into this stupid conversation again. Nevermind, I'll go enjoy all my free games while a small minority of people complain that I call them free.

They get more sales from the 'informed'. Only those that haven't played it and believe the reviews are 'uninformed'.

This sucks, Driveclub is THE Major PS+ release I was interested in this month. Glad its "not that bad" and "I blow things out of proportion". Thanks internet for keeping me calm.

Caterer advertises on their website for an entire year that their service will include cinnamon rolls with the rest of the service. People really want these cinnamon rolls but after a delay and little communication it turns out that the cinnamon rolls will eventually be coming later but you can go ahead and pay for them now to have it. People get fed up. A riot ensues. The building is burnt down. The catering company is no more. Chef Kaz must then go work for Gordon Ramsey.

If the caterer was repeatedly telling me, for a full year, that I'd get free cinnamon rolls, and, then showed up without the cinnamon rolls, then, no, I wouldn't hire them again.

And no one's saying "burn Sony to the ground." We're saying they need to be accountable.

It's a bonus game they promised yesterday and waited almost 24 hours to tell us why we wouldn't be getting it on time.

This thread has been entertaining for me in a lot of ways. The defenses, the rage, the sarcasm, the double-secret stealth-unless-you're-following-everything-closely sarcasm, it's all great! :P

While I can't tell yet, I wonder how much entertainment the PS+ version of Driveclub will give me compared to reading threads like this...

Who is burning Sony's building down? I see people who are upset about not getting what they paid for, on a message board, not serial arsonists.

A lot of the frustration comes from the NA PS Store team blundering time and time again with putting up content for the last 10 years. I'd venture to guess people wouldn't be as upset if they weren't screwing up every single Tuesday. Also the inability by the company to just give people the head's up yesterday when they absolutely knew they were going to delay it. We still don't have a date for this version, is it next Tuesday? Tomorrow? Next month? No one knows and that's a problem.

Let's try to understand why the "crazy posts" are popping up. THAT is Sony's fault.

Call me old fashioned, but I believe in personal responsibility. If a delay of a free* game causes me to post crazy within 24 hours, then I'd argue it's my craziness/impatience/irrationality at fault, and not Sony's fault.

Put it this way -- If all I have to do is stay silent to make someone freak out, I don't think it's my fault if they freak out all the time.

People believe they are holding back the plus edition to get people to pay full price for the retail game?

Absolutely. Not to play the Microsoft too game but did people think the 360 version of Titanfall really needed 3 extra weeks of polish? Bullshit. They wanted as many XB1 sales as possible just like Drive Club wants as many sales as possible before giving the game away for free on PS plus.

Starting to think about selling my PS4... Nothing exclusive to play at this time and I don't see anything on the horizon that is going to change that. Drive club seemed interesting when they promised it as a full game at launch, because it ment only having to buy one launch game and getting a 'packed in game' right away. That didn't happen, at all. And now this? Kind of done with Sony being incompetent. After they hit big at E3 2013 they became quite arrogant in my humble opinion and didn't put the care and effort which got them at this point. Hope they really change their ways in the upcoming months.

Your post is factually incorrect. The servers are Evolution's servers, not Sony's. Sony's servers were fine and I was able to download my PS+ games with no issue last night. You have no clue how networking software or data centers work either apparently.

who gives a fuck honestly. i'm paying for plus and the servers are worse than the ps3.

Did you rent your apartment for the sole reason of making soup?

No? Then don't complain to your landlord (or anyone else) when the stove breaks down.

Props for the creative response but the repairman is already scheduled to fix your stove for free...it's just going to take a couple of days while he works on a couple of other stoves for tenants who actually paid him for the repair.

People in this thread are acting like they will starve without their stove and should get it fixed for free before another customer that paid for the repair.

I agree.

I'm also going to sell my PS4. I'm tired of having no games. Me and PS4 can have a reconciliation when Nathan Drake arrives. Until then, I have to put my foot down.

Talk about first world problems.

Good things come to those who wait.

Seriously - this 'first world shit' is getting getting very tiresome.

Its a service. Its continually broke. This thread you have entered is about this. People are annoyed that the service they are paying for is unreliable.

You pay for things and dont complain if a company stiffs you? Good for you chump.

You seem to be advocating for a passive and unresponsive consumer. Personal responsibility here is frankly irrelevant Not that the conspiracies are good things, but it remains Sony's fault. They put out info about all the other PS+ titles. They mentioned the release of DriveClub itself. But they never said anything specifically about the PS+ version. That's terrible PR, that's terrible consumer relations. Any backlash they get remains entirely their own fault. They're a big corporation. They should know better.

Who do you think bankrolls Evolution's servers? Whose ultimately responsible for the financing of it and ensuring that there is enough servers to maintain a smooth launch?

I'd sell it.

It confirms the following:
- customers buying the retail version = tier 1 customers
- customers of PS+ wanting the free version = tier 2 customers
That seems likely.
In an amusing twist the reality of the situation is that PS+ subscribers are being treated better than their retail customers. Sell a troubled game? "Sure!" Give away a demo to the troubled game? "Hold on. Let's put a little more work in and get it right over here first."

Watching people overreact and meltdown due to server issues is probably my new favorite thing.

Classic things like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsqUZkmO-zk could not exist without server issues.

Sucks I guess. I dunno maybe I'm just less high strung then .... most ..... it seems

Or its that I have like 12 games staring at me in my library begging to be played while FFXIV laughs at them all

My man should try getting rid of some excess spit once in a while

I agree.

Pfft, you think Uncharted will save the PS4 from no game world? Delaystation will take effect, no game until 2016.

Did you rent your apartment for the sole reason of making soup?

This is the GOAT post. This entitlement BS is getting ridiculous. I'm completely aghast at the amount of people willing to let corporations walk all over them by not living up to the services they've been paid for.

But those two things aren't really comparable. If Driveclub didn't even exist, would you still be paying for PSN+? Of course. This 'free' game is an extra for a service you already paid for.

But...but...bloodbourne. and rime! And wild! And uncharted! I always view buying a console at launch as a long term investment. The ps3 was the same way and look how that turned out.

Totally reasons to keep it, but a demo being delayed a day so far is cause enough to think about selling it. Sell it and be nuts about something else in your life.

I agree.

Thats basically my feelings aswell. After E3 2013 I cant see Sony reacting as a "pro-consumer" again. It feels like they relaxed after that and are feeling too safe to move a finger now.

Will not sell my PS4 though, but thats definitely not the support I thought they would give this gen after that E3.

Totally, they should fire all those responsible, Sony should lose many future sales even, they deserve to lose the console race now!

Right?
