Driveclub PS Plus Edition Delayed by Server Issues

They posted this minutes ago.

With the high volume of new players and additional server load the PS Plus Edition is anticipated to bring, we are currently not confident that we can guarantee the best online experience

My suspicions were correct.

My assumption (and someone else's in this thread) is that their servers are not equipped to handle millions of of PS+ users play the game simultaneously. I hope I am wrong.

Well at least they are keeping us up to date, which is better than no news at all.

Actually this was exactly the same as "no news at all"...

This game from top to bottom, from the one year delay over the review scores to this mess of a situation is just a huge embarrassment for Evo and Sony.

They have to come up with something to make up for it.

This is just incredible...

In which way? That they don't have a time frame or that the code shipped with such a massive flaw.

I'm assuming the second rather than the first as not having a specific time frame is on par the course with this sort of thing. As it isn't an overnight thing to find the cause of the problem/s, what this effects if adjusted, what needs to be rewritten what needs to be altered, what can be salvaged, do the main body of work, test it, find the new flaws and fix them, repeat the last few steps until it is done. I wouldn't expect anything soon, my wild guess is that it is most likely related to the challenges as pretty much everything apart from that has been working.

So, with that FB note... are we assuming that there's been almost a complete rewrite of whatever netcode existed? I'm sure as shit if there were bugs/optimisations to be made, they wouldn't take this long at all.

I just hope this whole mess doesn't sink Evo and that they get to make another Motorstorm.

There won't be another Driveclub though.

I'm getting far cry, ac, and lotr. I never expected sony to fill busy months with games i want them to fill the slow months

For the most part, Sony has always had SOMETHING for the holidays. It is just so bizarre that they have no triple A game for the season.

Sony? ...yeah, they didn't make the game.

They're the publisher and should enforce quality standards, not to mention this is a first party studio.
Someone at both companies needs to fall on a sword.
I get that the hyperbole may be funny but it doesn't help the discussion and all it does it contribute to the "OMG LEAVE ZONYZ ALONEZ" responses. Come on. Nobody should be asking for anybody's head/job here. People should be asking for refunds (where it applies) and more importantly, for Sony/Evolution studies to acknowledge the issue (they've done that) and make sure preventive steps are taken to avoid similar scenarios in the future.

Not sure why you even care since you don't even like or have the game...

No, it isn't.

Loool, make up for what? If people don't like the situation, they get a refund, or not buy the game, which is what's happening. The server issues are highly disappointing but it's not like you were forced to buy the game.

Not all of it. Particularly the "off with their heads!" mentality.
I'm not one to watch hunt but Evolution had a whole extra year and this is what came out of it? I know this is their first big game but if that's going to be the excuse, I believe then that they should have aimed lower to succeed.

When the game works it is apparently pretty alright, but the big problem is that it isn't working 100% of the time. For a game with an extra year of polish this is embarrassing to say the least.

There's a difference between bad planning and an unpredictable event. It could turn out that they used testing methods they should have known were ineffective, but for all we know, it was something no one could have foreseen. Admittedly, I was surprised that major features like weather/replays/private matches/photo mode weren't in the final release, but most recognize how much of a nightmare networking can be for any studio.

Well this is not great news for those waiting on the ps+ edition! yet I've been playing every night since launch - driving is awesome, so you'll love it when you (eventually) get it

This scenario seems pretty unique. There is usually, even with the biggest studios, hiccups regarding online games getting off the ground smoothly. This was a flat out coding failure. Why would Sony, or anyone expect something this weird? They've overseen plenty of online games. They touted it, and it's under their name. Egg on their face, I don't know why more is expected. EVO fucked up.

New update, just like the old update.

At this point if they don't do something for people who bought the game I probably won't buy another Evo game. I didn't buy DC to race AI...
Well i must admit the sp is pretty good. But indeed that is not why we bought the game. That's not how they advertised the game either.

This is taking too long though. They should just give an exact and honest explanation of what went wrong and a time indication of when they ink it will work. The frustration of CONSTANTLY getting an error after waiting for minutes is just aggrivating.

Anyway,.. The game will lose a lot of momentum next week when al lot of great other games will release.
It allready lost a lot of momentum.

Depending on the availability of white Xbox One's at Gamestop online Sunday, I could be playing FH2 before DC. I never thought that would be possible.

So tomorrow it will be 4 weeks since this was supposed to come out. Just let me play the single player game. This is so silly at this point. It's almost like they don't want the 11/15 day one PS4 players to get this without renewing their membership.

I'm really jonesing for a racing game. If I had the money I'd pick up the XBox One just to play Forza Horizons. That's bad...

Yep.

add 11/29 EU wave to that too, it's not coming in november that's for sure

I'd love to know how they messed it up that bad. Like how long does it take to code something. They must be rewriting the entire engine, How did they mess it up that bad that its taken over a month and going to take an indeterminate amount of time to fix.

Someone's gotta leak the information, what harm can it do now, maybe it would help someone else to avoid the same mistake.

Geoff Keighley needs to get on it! We need a Final Hours of Driveclub.

If they are writing the net code from the ground up it will take considerably longer than a month to complete and debug.
