Driveclub PS Plus Edition Delayed by Server Issues

It's probably the easiest thing to realize, why they are not doing it.

Look at the backlash against the game when it released ( despite its incredible quality ) due to the online issues.

That was what, 800k - 1,000,000 people maybe WW?

The official decision to yank the PS+ Edition was made midday on Day One, with the game having only been available for sale in one geographic region for a few hours.

Most of those hours were periods when many potential gamers would have been at work or school.

This isn't an established megahit franchise like Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto. This is DriveClub, a new and unproven game.

With that in mind, 800K users at launch is just plain unimaginable. You're talking high four-digit or maybe low five-digit figures at best.

Now image they release the game, in limited form even, WW to 10,000,000 PS+ subscribers. Lets say even 10% of those people download it ( would prob be many more then that ). Thats 1,000,000 people downloading and jumping into the game at once again.

Servers die again

Complaints against game renew

More threads and more news stories and backlash against the title.

If they are not confident they have the server capacity or netcode to support the rollout of a PS+ version, they won't do it.

If they release the PS+ Edition today, they'll still have the potential for a large influx of new users banging the servers today.

If they release it next week, they'll still have the potential for a large influx of new users banging the servers next week.

If they release it in April, they'll still have the potential for a large influx of new users banging the servers in April.

If they release it in May, they'll still have the potential for a large influx of new users banging the servers in May.

See the problem? By that logic, they should never release the PS+ Edition, because otherwise they'd always have to be fearful about a large influx of new users.

If the server problems still aren't in order, then why continue to sell the game? After all, any increase in users could have devastating potential.

If Best Buy runs a huge discount on DriveClub next Sunday, and 10,000 more people buy it as a result, is the added load of 10,000 new users going to knock down the servers like a house of cards? If so, then Sony should pull the game off the shelves, and Evolution Studios should pull up the tent poles and go home.

This is supposed to be an online-enabled game. You'd assume that with the developer's and publisher's pedigrees, they'd have an understanding of potential problems, and also an understanding of how to properly handle the situation when "potential" problems become "actual" problems.

There are lots of other online games that have experienced issues, but they usually get resolved reasonably quickly. I don't recall any major game (from well-known and respected developers/publishers) that have needed to take a whopping five months to "get it together".

From the consumer perspective, the decision to yank the PS+ Edition for a week or two in order to fix the online problems was reasonable. It was uncomfortable, but still within reason.

After five friggin' months? It's not reasonable. It's just plain pathetic.

PS+ version will never come out, the servers are still shit and not fixed. Evo should just say the truth, they always saying they making improvements but I don't see it. Still lose connection to server continuously till this day, and day one online features that were removed because of server problems are still missing.

Too bad they couldn't do a gradual roll out of PS+. Randomly assign users to slots, those subs running out sooner get in first. Most will play it for 1-3 days then never again. Launching PS+ to all creates one huge lag spike that is never repeated again.

If they do still intend to release a PS+ version then this is the only thing I think could work, and it would be difficult to pull off.

False. The servers are much better at this time. I can go online for a week every night and get not disconnects game after game.

All online features are enable and working properly.

Evo has been doing an amazing job with DC, I'm so glad I bought and game and the season pass.

A full refund for the cost of the demo should be credited to every PSN account.

($0.00)

Indeed.

Indeed.

What are you talking about, I was just playing the game and all the features aren't there. Did you even have the game oct 7th? Evo doing a good job with upgrading game with content and thats it.

What was the replacement game?

I mean some real compensation not just filler.
Sony doesn't owe you anything. You pay for PlayStation Plus for online multiplayer, cloud storage and whatever they choose as "free" games for the month. They didn't pull it to trick people into buying Plus, the game just can't handle the load. They also can't throw a bunch of servers at it when 90% of the Plus subscribers will just stop playing within the first week.

PS+ is a service, if someone has been a member solely based on getting the free Driveclub edition and has never once used anything the service offers I am sure that they could try to get a refund then...
The point is that something that was advertised for the sevice hasn't come. I don't think an acknowledgement of that and giving peope something as an apology for not delivering what they promised is out of the question.

thank god. please don’t fuck up my game. I paid for it.let them play the full game but not online. no.

Agreed, as someone who paid for the game, would rather them not release a free online version that's just going to break the servers for everyone else.

That's not how offering a service with multiple components works.

Why is one selective list of advertised components 'correct' and another selective list of advertised components 'incorrect'?

Sony should offer something to compensate ps+ subscribers

I have said this before, why not just offer an offline/SP PS+ edition? That's better than nothing and might push people to buy after trying it. Just disable the online functionality and put the promised PS+ version and if they at some point figure out the online issue, just update the PS+ version. I don't understand why this has not been done yet.

I was there on day one.

I was thinking you were saying that some online features are missing TODAY, and that is not true. Yes some of them were missing at lunch, but hey... They enable them as soon as they could.

okay, so they could have taken the online play out of the psplus version over the last 6 months and released that, but they didn't

As someone who is interested in paying for the full version of the game, I'd rather they release the promised "free online version", so that they can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the servers are not going to break.

Precisely.

It's not even that it was messed up a little. I could understand that. But it was promised launch day. Didn't come. Delayed. For a year or almost. Comes out and we still think we are getting the PS+ version. What was it a few days before they finally acknowledged we weren't? Now it's 5 + months later and it seems it's still going to be some months before we see it?

Yeah, I don't think it's unwarranted to ask for an acknowlegement that they really messed up and a little something for an apology for really not delivering what was promised.

I'm not asking for the game free. But I would say it would be nice if they would as a token such as give a little more in the demo to play with (more cars or more tracks or add a DLC in) or reduce the price of the PS+ upgrade to something actually competitive with how much you could get it for now if you just waited for a good price on the physical version (I bet I could find it for 20 bux... I have some one claiming you can find it for 15). I mean at this point it's ridiculous for them to expect us to be grateful for a small discount when we could have gotten it cheaper without being a PS+ member. I mean part of the perks of PS+ is supposedly getting better discounts than if you weren't one...

Anyways, if they don't offer anything and just give us what they promised months ago, I will fully say at this point I will definitely not be grateful to them rather than disappointed in them. Just add one more thing on the list of why I will be questioning whether I renew my PS+ or not (Probably not unless there's a game I"m still playing online that I really don't want to give up. SEeing as the only game I play online is GTA not sure that will be worth it since by the time my PS+ is up that will be more than a year from now. I'm sure I'll have moved on by then). I've already managed to buy one of the games I did get from PS+ that I really liked for 5 bux in the eventuality I won't have it anymore. So I think mentally I'm already starting to prepare for losing my PS+ games for lack of it not being worth it anymore.

Mobile app? In game notifications?
Technically, he's right.

I'm not asking for the game free.
You'll get the full game for free on PS+, eventually.
Even with your beloved Lambos.

They did give everyone something for not providing Driveclub, You got Contrast when they announced that they couldn't release Driveclub before the end of 2013.

Then in December we didn't get a PS4 PS+ game because they were forced to bump Contrast to November.

Yet that defense conveniently ignores the fact Sony used the Driveclub ps+ version as a selling point for the ps+ service.
Once one takes a step away from emotion based debating, admitting Sony's faults and failure here is more than reasonable.

And I'd say that is going above and beyond if they did that. But, all I am asking for in apology is just a little extra. I'm not saying they need to give the game to me for free (but yes, if they just gave in and gave the game free, even without the DLCs, that would be more than making up for their mistakes imo).

I want what they told me I was getting in November 2013. I didn't buy a racer back then because of it, and waited quite a long time. Yes, I could have gone and bought DC when it came out, but I was told I didn't need to.

This rankles me, and they have not made good on this at all, however much I love and value the service. They have let customers down with this, and should not be defended for it, regardless of the reasons. That isn't cool.

thank god. please don’t fuck up my game. I paid for it.let them play the full game but not online. no.

I'd be happy with just the single player component in full. That would certainly satisfy their promise of delivering a stripped down version of the game, and would ensure no consequence for buyers online play.

The funny thing is that each day there are more PS+ customers and so potential Driveclub players once they release the PS+ version.

I too believe that this will never come and will slowly be forgotten (by Sony) ...

Well, make sure you don't ever buy the game. Would hate to bring down the game's online because we bought the game, causing those currently playing to have online problems. You're welcome, Sony. I won't buy Driveclub so I'm not a problem for you.

PS Plus isn't free.

Oh, great point! You just completely refuted everyone in here that was claiming PS Plus is a free service.

You didn't get to download the PS+ version of Driveclub. That is a super-sad story but seriously, how could you possibly be expected to be compensated for it?

Did you get to play your PS4 games online? Were you offered discounts from the Playstation store? Did you get to add six games to your instant collection, on the first Tuesday of every month? If the answer is "yes", then you got what you paid for when you bought PS+.

Honestly? It's entirely your loss.
It's a great game.
It's really your loss.

They haven't let down customers intentionally, it's not in their interests, so the constant whinging seems quite churlish at times.

I do agree with you that if they can't get the online enabled PSN+ version working soon they should maybe consider releasing a single player version with, say, only 2 of the countries included and a limited selection of cars.

I wonder if they are waiting untill they have finished adding features like weather, replays etc to this before they put out the free version. Maybe next month!

Idk I was at my buddies house playing this the other day and some of the online features were not working. He also couldn't join a race with his online buddy. I was shocked bexause I had read the game was in good condition.

I want to buy it but i don't trust them. If they ever release the ps play version, the servers will probably fail again and the game will be unplayable. I am going to wait for them to release the ps plus version and see if it holds up and then maybe I will buy.

Be thankful. You can sometimes play online because I won't buy it. Sony can't figure out what it's doing, so they told me to stay away. That's why they won't release the PS+ version because more people would play this great game, screwing up the online.

I was playing earlier today. And yesterday. And the day before that. And last weekend. It was all working when I was on. What can we make of that?

So when I buy a laptop, if everything is working just fine, but the RAM is 2 GB instead of the advertised 8 GB, would it be OK? You can still play games, surf the internet or watch movies, so there wouldn't be any problem right?

What a perfect analogy! Not getting a free demo of a game on PS+ is exactly like buying a laptop and finding out that it's missing 6 GB of RAM.

Why a laptop? PS4 has 8GB RAM but there's only 5GB. :D
