DRIVECLUB The Drenched Forests of Canada

There's nothing intrinsically wrong with using "oversampling" in the context of graphical rendering. Though it's difficult to ever say, in a strict sense, that a scene is actually being "oversampled" when you're working with infinitely-high-frequency details like hard edges (i.e. basically always).

(Obviously, in the context of the discussion, the correct term would have been "supersampling.")

Agreed

As is the difference in scope of the two games.

This. I cringe every time I see these comparisons :/

I'm just glad to have the option to play both FH2 and Drive Club.

They look different enough gameplay wise for me to probably find time to enjoy both.

I have very little doubt that DC will be the better looking game, but FH2 looks plenty good enough to me.

If you mute Horizon's colours a little bit. It looks more reaslistic.

But that defeats the object of what Horizon's devs are going for. It seems more like a style choice, rather than trying to make it look as real as possible.

Absolutely. But as this thread pointed out, open-world does not make for a better racer.

In fact, I think it often detracts.

I think the best racing game made so far was Test Drive Unlimited, and open world only made it that much more fun. A race all around Oahu? Nothing compares.

Can we all agree this game was worth the wait?

Wait is it already out? Then there is still waiting to go.

Like a cartoon versus real life.

I'd say one looks like a computer game, whereas the other is taking intermediate steps toward photo realism

FH2 takes a cheap path to specular lighting (frequent sun showers an obvious excuse to make everything look wet and shiny). If you look closely at Driveclub, however, you can actually observe John Rambo thumbing a lift back into town.

ROFLMAO!! I just showed this to my cousin and my friend and both of them thought the left was real life and the right is Xbox 360. I am DEAD! I wish I could have recorded the reaction.

My cousin was like, "how can they advertise that? That's wrong. That shit looks like a 360 game and they gonna advertise it like that?! Nah brotha nah"

Well i can't blame them.

LoL even in a tiny gif like that the trees look horrendous in Forza. They really need to improve those things.

Such a shame we're not getting access to this, would be good to see how the handling has moved on and the impact of weather. Visuals look stunning in that wet weather clip.
Any reason(s) as to why you're not getting access? Perhaps a message to Rushy on Twitter or a comment in the DriveClub thread on the rllmuk forum (as Rushy started the thread) might start the access ball rolling. We'd finally get decent questions and driving from a games journo if you were invited to Cheshire ;)

Without a doubt, DriveClub looks better overall, but just a few considerations:

-Closed routes vs open world
-More powerful console vs less powerful one
-Different artistical styles, giving a clear advantage over DriveClub due to its photorrealism

Different ways to work and both very valid in my opinion, Forza Horizon 2 still looks sexy as hell.

We cannot have everything into a single package, but definitely this year will be great for those we have both consoles.

It's good owning all consoles. No need to rationalise why I don't want a game on a console I don't own. Just sit back and let all the games wash over me in one huge sticky load.

Exactly. My wallet is hurting from all these games already, and I will play both equally. Visually though, DC is really blowing all expectations out the water. Well worth the wait

Especially since I have a huge backlog that forces me to lol.

Agreed.

As a native spanish speaker, if I post you some comments of hardcore fans in other worldwide communities... Oh boys, you'll get sick. For sure.

I see this being said a lot about Horizon 2, but from Playground Games' own comments, it seemed they were aiming at something realistic, not stylish:
“[It’s] something which fits our world perfectly; the temperate climate of southern Europe – the changeable weather conditions – it meant we had to look at creating a realistic, physically-modelled atmospheric simulation.”...
“It’s all down to the kind of things you’d expect in real life,”
http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/06/18/forza-horizon-2as-radical-new-weather-ign-first
They keep hyping how "realistic" their wet surfaces/lighting/sky/clods are throughout the whole article. It's clear they were aiming for a realistic look.
