Driveclub - This game is legit

I'd rather wait for the PS plus version I was promised as a selling point before I picked up a PS4.

So you want to wait for a digital PS Plus title with limited tracks and cars to later like it and be force to purchase the $50 price-tag on the digital store to keep your saves instead of buying it physical brand new with all the content for $20. Sure good luck with that.

Before I recommend this game to anyone, I'd set their expectations properly beforehand. This ain't open world. It's racing from point A to B at the fastest time possible (with or without other cars). Ready to do that thousands times over?

Note: it is my most played PS4 game. It's beautiful. I love it.

I can't justify spending 37.95 AU on the Season Pass when the base game cost me $18. I haven't done all the Regular, Photo Finish and Ignition Events yet.
The season pass contains well over double the single player content of the vanilla game.

Save files aren't compatible between physical and digital copies? Really? It's not like that for most games, is it? =/

Oh yeah you definitely want those patches. Weather, new courses, cars, replay mode, photo mode, etc. etc. And yes it starts off really easy, but you'll soon find the difficulty ramping up especially after you move up to the faster cars.

That's why I didn't want to play too much right now... I know there's lots that I'm missing.

The only things I've noticed that kind of bummed me out were not much sense of speed (though I imagine that has more to do with the cars you're given at the start than 30fps) and I found I was getting rammed/driven into from behind or the side by AI cars and getting penalized for it. That sucks.

I do like the semi-arcadey feel of the cars and it really does look great. Can't wait to see that weather in action.

It isn't just great, it's incredible. Probably the most fun I've had with a racer in years. My advice would be to slog it through the opening few Tour events as the game starts off weak, and also to consider the season pass, it has an incredible amount of additional content.

I have to disagree on your statement there, it's not just racing to reach the fastest time possible, there are drift circuits and time trials for score, it's not just about reaching first place. The game offer various modes and club challenges, you won't be repeating the same thing over and over again.

Drive club is still pretty expensive in Canada. I haven't seen it for under 40 bucks plus shipping and taxes. I might hold out for the ps plus version too.

They are two different versions of the game. One would assume that in the PS Edition you will not be able to pass saves onto a physical version of the complete version, you have to unlock the PS Edition's full mode via purchase.

Edit: It is not like that with other games and this is just an assumption.

And while the point-to-points are the star of the show, it still has road and track circuits to lap to your heart's content.

Best racing game this Gen so far.
*thumbs up*

From what I understand there is no weather effects in normal career mode. You have to setup a custom race.

Heh. I've recently jumped back in, and the first couple of races in the Evolution Trophy (I think) have you driving a Mini and a Clio.

The next one was a BMW M1, then the Onyx concept car, and the first two had made me forget how goddamn fast this game moves once you get up the car classes :)

Did they stop putting out new content? The weekly Driveclub XXXXXX Pack threads haven't been popping up as regularly as earlier in the year. Does that mean that in the end they never had a single Japanese car?

I wonder how many of those telling people to cave and pick up the game for $20 realize that it's not $20 outside of the States. Hell, it's still $69.99 in Canada, which with tax gets up to about $80 in Ontario. Although it's currently on sale for $39.99 at EB Games, but that's only until Sunday.

They just released more content this week and plan to support Driveclub as a service now. Expect support until the end of 2015 at the least.

Where do you see that sale? Online store is sold out. Is that in the shops?

Set the expectation bar lower so they'll be impressed when they play it.

Why not buy it on Ebay? they ship worldwide and have seen the game go below $30

Edit: Not ebay.ca but just regular ebay. Makes a difference ;)

The last racing game I played was Mario Kart on the Wii. I have been following Drive Club threads since before it launched and have been really been thinking about pulling the trigger on it. My wife has been asking me to buy a racing game so I just might pick it up digitally. Can me and my wife race each other split screen? Also can I use my vita to remote connect and allow my wife to use the tv screen.

Link

Price match it at Walmart or Best Buy if you can.

I was able to price match it at BB and used some Reward Zone certificates to pick it up for $7. :D

No local multiplayer unfortunately.

Cost of shipping usually kills the deal.

Edit: @xaero gravity, that link only brings me to their front page. When I search for it, it shows up as sold out. Huh. Also Walmart and bestbuy websites don't have it at 39 bucks for me.

Racing a supercar in the rain like that on open roads seems down right terrifying. So everyone is good with 30fps racers now with limited car selection and no tuning. That's what's hot in the streets now? For all its faults Forza 5 is still the best current Gen racer to me. Driveclub has its spot and I'm not saying its not a good game. But racing game of the generation? Maybe if you only have a PS4.

Best racer this gen by a country mile! In its current form it's really quite a page. As has been said many times before it happens to be an absolute visual tour de force! Nothing comes close.

You've got to be kidding me...

Depends upon the game. When it came down to it DC won me over in the handling and raw gameplay department, though its visuals have always impressed.

Like a race car DC is built to do what it does damn well, with nothing extraneous.

If you can show BB or Walmart the flyer page, they should match the price for you no problem.

I don't need every racer to have tuning. I certainly never had that problem with PGR. The game is fun, that's what's important to me.

As far as 30 fps goes, yes its "only" 30 fps. But I've literally never seen the frame rate dip even slightly. Not with a bunch of cars, not in the pouring rain, not in the pouring rain with a bunch of cars. If you prefer 60 fps that's fine, but you'll never convince me that DC's visuals were hurt very much by its frame rate.

On PS4, sure. But Forza Motorsport and Horizon claim that spot when both consoles are considered. Not sure what racers Wii U has besides Mario Kart.
On topic, I found the lack of a driving line extremely dissapointing. You have to memorize the track to even consider placing in the top 3, and while I like the visuals in heavy precipitation, it makes it extremely difficut to drive, let alone race, during the darker hours of the day.

You've got to be kidding me...

Good troll post, try again.

Why is this a troll post? I outlined why I disagree that its the best racer this Gen with actual facts. If you disagree, please elaborate on why you think Driveclub is the racing game of the generation as some are claiming. The game reviews seem to be on my side. Metacritic for both Forza titles is much higher than Driveclub. Please don't bring emotions into an objective debate and don't let the Chief avatar get you feeling some type of way.

I never understood the "limited car selection" critique. For example, if there was 50 cars to choose from where you'd atleast want to play with every car for atleast an hour that's 50 hours of gameplay. If a car isn't even worth 1 hour of gameplay from most players there's no place for it in the game.

Since I know little-to-nothing about cars I prefer my games to be without tuning. I don't know what I should be aiming for so any game that just lets me get right to the racing without playing a meta game is more than welcome in my book.

You actually didn't present any facts, you made a flippant statement about 30fps being "what's hot in the streets now" and then claimed, without any reasoning, that Forza was the best current gen racer in spite of faults it has, but gave no reasons as to why.
