Driveclub - This game is legit

Ok, now we've gone from reaching game of the generation to best racer EVER made.

Dude stop, just look at the pretty gifs!

Yes, that is a Walking Dead Reference

it's fun as hell.

99%? oh god.

I mean really.

game is fun as hell.

best looking racer ever. Some of the most advanced shit going on all at once.

load times are the best ever (post N64)...in and out of races quick. Very helpful if want to get a quick couple of races in.

Game size is not huge, compared to other games this gen.

many beautiful cars to choose from.

even the slower cars still are fun to drive, and the sense of speed is still there.

I mean all the complaints I think most had, were when it first released...and most shit didn't work.
Yeah, it's a good game no doubt.

I've spent over 150 hours on DC and honestly think it's the best damn racegame ever made. Hoping for a season 2 pass.
Is there a way to check time played in-game or is that a guess? I swear I must have spent over 100 hours in it, but can't find a way to check....

Almost bought it from gamestop for $20 and then it started disappearing from every gamestop in the area. I think there's one copy within a hundred miles now. Did Sony stop making copies or something?

No I couldn't find that info in the game either. Though they track a lot of stats, time spent playing isn't one of them. My 100 hour claim is an estimation as well.

Why? DC has like 1/5th the amount of cars, less features all around. The game is very barebones and not everyone will enjoy the whole we only have european super cars thing they have going on.

I sense you are trying to say something but I can't quite put my fingers on it?

Also, what are these less features that driveclub doesn't have?

Great game, really offered mi a lot of good time with its SP campaign. I will get season pass when they finish adding content to it.

I so, so, so wish they didn't botch the launch of this game. Its probably my favorite racer of all time.

Do you think it would benefit from a "Complete" edition with all the patches, DLC and a few new features thrown in?

Could review a lot higher and improve the reputation of the game and studio again..

You clearly haven't played the game. Go wash your mouth out with some soap. Tsssk

Painting, tuning, upgrading. The second two I can understand because the game has a basic physics engine and made up car specs, but the first one would be essential for prolonging game's life.

- Would be cool if there was a co-driver that spoke your directions in rally pseudo rally events
- I would like the option to put the mini map at top middle 3rd of the screen, i don't like looking at the corner of my screen
- Needs an optional race line

You just need to play more and learn the tracks, then you wont need these crutches.

I play with HUD off, no corner flags and it makes the game even better :)

What are you even talking about?

Plenty of people are still playing the game now both online and offline even without those things.

In racing games, how good the core game is determines it's longevity, nothing else.

That is why people still play RBR to this day.

Does playing manual gives me an advantage on drifting challenges? I'm having a blast with this game but I couldn't score good points on some online drifting challenges.

I played it on a 4K TV, trust me these gifs don't give it justice.

last one

Haha, that's my gif. I remember that AI fuckup as I was uploading captures in the prerelease thread.

Man, I got banned twice for defending this game.

Sigh

lol, just goes to show you haven't played Driveclub, you can paint, put decals, put your clubs logo, etc on your cars and even have slots to keep your custom paint.

This is a closed circuit, semi-sim racer tuning and upgrading would put disadvantages to players and would make racing unfair. If you want that style of racer go play The Crew.

My all time favorite racer. It's really a shame that this game was so trashed when it came out. Now it's so solid. I know a lot of people enjoy it on neogaf.

People getting heated like it's fightclub.

The livery/color selection it has isn't good enough? I mean yeah I guess you can't put custom anime vinyls on your car, but I thought the amount of designs they give you (unlockable) is a lot.

edit: yeah what sengetsu said.

Yes. Downshifting a bit early is the easiest way to light up the tires.

The weather effects in this game are the best I've ever seen and the framerate seems to remain solid regardless, which is pretty impressive.

and that is only going to increase when the PLUS version is finally released.

if the servers hold up! >_<

It's going to be PACKED.

Got this game after seeing it in the console screenshot thread, really fun racer up until the Hyper cars which I can't drive for shit. I keep telling myself to take a break but always want to do "one more race" and I end up playing for most of the night.

It's a great feel when you hardly beat opponents great time with the SAME AND NO UPGRADED car. Just pure skill!

Beat opponent with car with upgraded, engine, turbo and other shit....naaah.

The painting is too basic to spend any serious time on it.
And please tell me how tuning makes racing unfair in RL/GT/FM/PC/etc. Tuning is a huge part of racing.

No. People prefer the easier options of spending credits on upgrades to make their car faster than the competition and then follow a driving line to victory.

Ain't nobody got time to actually get good at games these days.

Same here, haha! I see people saying the game is $20 but I haven't found it anywhere at that price. I also tried Gamestop and nothing within 100 miles of me either. Amazon does have it for $39.99.

It's also a great feeling extracting a little more speed/improving handling through tuning without putting on any upgrades. A lot of people forget that you can also fuck up the car with a shitty setup, tuning requires as much if not more skill than your ability on the track.

The only thing sim-like is the lack of rewind and race line. That and it looks incredibly lifelike.

The physics are very simplistic and non of the cars handle anywhere near like they would in real life. It's purely an arcade racer. I think it's doing the game a disservice to call it a sim-like or simcade racer. If people get the game knowing it's an arcade racer odds are they'll love it. If people get the game thinking it's a decent Gran Turismo, Forza, or Project Cars alternative they'll be disappointed. At least I was anyway lol.

Well, as i said in previous post.:D

It is sim-cade.

The painting is in no way basic, basic would be to just change the colors of the cars.

Remember this is not only a racer, there are challenges in which you need to score better than your opponent with the same car (ghost cars) being by drifting challenges, time trials or other modes. Tuning would make this challenges uneven and make people beat other's score with different setups which is like having a guy use steroids in the olympics against normal athletes. Did I get my point across or should I just give you pretty gifs like scatter?

It's sim-like in the way the game penalizes you for cutting corners or hitting cars, a normal arcade racer wouldn't do that. Of course that is why a said semi-sim not full sim.

Someone saying Driveclub is racer of the generation and others agreeing has sounded the alarms.

What's the competition so far? Project Cars and FH2? Project Cars is hardly for most people who want a racing game, and Driveclub is definitely arguably better than FH2 depending on your preference.

I think you are missing the point here. EVO wanted all player to have equal grounds so you rely only on pure skills.

there is no point on competing with a guy with the same car but upgraded engine or tires . that wouldn't be fair to everyone.

It is sim-cade.

Forza and Gran Turismo are simcade, Driveclub is an arcade racer.

edit:

I'll be more specific. A simcade should have pretty realistic physics with real cars, car tuning, real tracks (preferably), things like that. An actual sim needs to attempt to maximize realism. Tyre wear, fuel consumption, pit stops, everything. Think rFactor 2, iRacing, Assetto Corsa, Richard Burns Rally, etc. Driveclub's physics are just too unrealistic to fit into the simcade category and there's no tuning and all the tracks are fictional as far as I know.

I picked up Driveclub two weeks ago for $18 Preowned from EB (It was sealed too! Probably unwanted from a bundle) and i am having a blast with it. I was one of those that blindly shat on it when it got it's mixed reviews at release but i figured for $18 i thought why not? I could always just return it with EBs 14 day returns policy for pre-owned goods.

What i like about the game

- Sense of speed
- The graphics
- The presentation
- Car sounds
- All the little challenges you can go for and face offs

What could use abit of work

- Would be cool if there was a co-driver that spoke your directions in rally pseudo rally events
- I would like the option to put the mini map at top middle 3rd of the screen, i don't like looking at the corner of my screen
- Needs an optional race line
- More customization options (my biggest issue besides 30FPS)
- Could do with cars that are non-European

It must be because i am playing a patched version of the game that people didn't receive at launch but the game dam fine and is currently not worth the 70-71 meta it's got (should be another 10 points higher).

This alone would make the game so much better. Especially with the endgame cars.

I still really like driveclub.
