Drivers in Florida

I've been staying in Miami for the past week, and currently heading to Orlando - people on the road here are impatient and I don't think some people care if they run you off the road as long as they get to speed past you. No one seems to follow the speed limit despite the many highway patrols I've seen on the Turnpike and the I-95. Also, drivers are constantly honking at turns, if you stay even a split-second once a light turns green people start honking lol (this hasn't happened to me yet). FloridaGAF, coming from a Seattlite this is my observation so far. I think traffic is worse in Seattle, btw - I haven't really hit much traffic around here (lucky?) but there is a lot of construction and detours. Beautiful city and weather, tho! I needed the sunshine :)

As a lifelong Florida resident, I welcome you to the Thunderdome.

Yes, it really is that bad here. Also nobody here can drive reasonably well, they're either speeding like Amphetamine loaded NASCAR drivers or going 25 under and pissing everyone else off.

Only lived here for 1.5 years, and can already tell they're the most impatient drivers ever. Everyone drives offensively, and blocks every Fucking intersection. Still love it here though lol.

Really don't know why they decided to make a retirement state require everybody to drive for basic functions.

In NJ the roads are always under construction and everyone drives about 5-10 mph more than the speed limit. Even the cops follow this rule, my cousin once got pulled over for going the exact speed limit because she wasn't following the flow of traffic. I think we rank third for the worst drivers in the U.S..

People drive too slow in Florida. Alot of people are looking out of their windows and shit like its the Lizzie McGuire Movie and they just touched down in Italy

My road rage truly manifested while I was there.

I would just like to point out that this verifies my earlier statement hahaha.

I live in Europe, and Florida was the first US city I visited on holiday. When driving at home, I am usually always nice. I might slow to let a car out at an intersection when driving through a town... and some people do the same to me.

Driving in Florida in mid-2000s was akin to playing a Twisted Metal game. It felt like randomized madness.

In the last 5 years I have since driven in New York (which I was scared to at first), and also Seattle, but both seemed tame in comparison.

I have not seen Flordia in over 10 years though, so no idea what to expect now. Worse?

Well yeah, people in Seattle forget how to drive when the sun comes out once in a blue moon and then it rains again :p

They're just really passive-aggressive and generally slow. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten stuck behind people going 50 mph in the left line of I-90.

No one cares to drive the speed limit, cops included. Stay out of the left lane on highways unless you are willing the break the speed limit. Typically people won't bug you if you stay in the right lanes.
Dealing with 1-4 and disney traffic weekly has ruined my patience with left lane campers.

Lived in Florida for 3 years and my only real complaint was the drivers. And they give the finger a LOT down there.

Ehhh but when you're burning 90 on the fucking toll road and someone is flashing their lights behind you its a bit much

I'll literally be driving so fast my cheeks are lifting from my seat and I'll see a confederate flag decal and some fake hairy balls bumper hangers forcing me off the road

they keep widening and widening to roads, adding more lanes, and nothing gets any better.
worst drivers.
take i95 south from Maine, have a nice drive, start screaming in a fit of intense road rage the second you cross into Palm Beach County

I have not seen Flordia in over 10 years though, so no idea what to expect now. Worse?
same shit, only those 75 year old drivers that were there when you were there are 85 now

Honestly is there anywhere in the U.S where it's a real pleasure to drive?

the northwest

You can just move over if they're bugging you. Let the fool crash and burn without taking you out as well.

I've driven in the many northeastern states and parts of California and Florida is easily the worst. No blinkers, people will cut across 4 lanes on i95 in the rain without signaling to reach an exit. No state inspections either so you gotta worry about who has propee brakes and tread left on their tires.

A bunch of friends and I drove from Richmond to Key West a couple years back. I have a theory that all Florida drivers just want to die because they drive like they don't give a fuck.

Driven in Florida a few times. Nearly escaped with my life.

On average I almost get driven off the road about 2-3 times a month in Florida.

Last week it was twice on the same night.

I'm about to go on an hours drive to the airport here in good ol' florida. I only see a car accident every other time I drive down the highway, it's fine.

It's fine. It's fineit'sfineitsfine.

There's really nothing bad about California if you just don't block the left lane when people want to go faster than you. All the freeways have 4+ lanes, so stay out of the far left one if you aren't into doing 90 and nobody will bother you.

They're all on the fucking phone and the water here makes them angry assholes..

Ridiculous..you seem good at it.

Having only ever really driven in Florida I don't know any different LOL but we really are pretty bad here... all the damn construction doesn't help

I will say though, the drivers in the Miami and Orlando areas make the drivers in the rest of florida seem like professionals.

I think it depends OP. I've lived in Florida on and off for ~15 years. Are you the type of person that goes 70 on the interstate, or do you go with the traffic flow?

We have the worst drivers in the world here in Florida. I don't care where you're from or what your personal anecdotes are. This shit has been proven by study after study for years now.

And for the OP, you want to experience some good old fashioned Miami traffic? Here's what you do. Monday morning around 8-9am, drive up on Palmetto Expressway or I-95. You'll see some traffic that'll make your eyes and ass bleed.

I cannot wait to move out of here. My friend from Southern Oregon always complains about traffic. I laugh at her. She has no idea. Neither do you people from Los Angeles or New York. Yeah you have a lot of traffic because you have a lot of people. Let me know when you're backed up for 2 or 3 hours on the interstate because some dickhead missed an exit, so he put his car in reverse and tried to back up on the interstate, full speed, into morning rush traffic.

I've seen some shit, man.

As a Florida native the actual worst drivers i've noticed is that people from the north east. New Jersey, New York, Mass etc. All of them are just bad. When I see those plates I try to get as far away from their vehicle as possible

I stay out of the left lane unless I'm cutting someone, and I follow the flow of traffic. I've driven from Seattle to LA multiple times so yeah, I know to stay out of the left lane when I have to.

It's fine.

The last time it happened I blasted the horn at the dude and floored it so he wouldn't hit me (thankfully noone was ahead of us). This rattled him apparently. He followed me for like 15 miles through service roads and all the way to my residential area. Nearing my destination I decided to turn away and keep driving, circumnavigating in an area/ way that confirms it wasn't a coincidence, that they were indeed following me. I decided to go into where I knew a light was, run the light and turn off my lights in an area I know I could probably lose them quick and indeed I did. Trees/ driveways everywhere and the road I turned on had no lights so you pretty much have to know the area to navigate it at night with your lights off. I never saw their lights on my rear view as I was making the final turn I knew that I would live to potentially get driven off the road another day.

New Jersey and LA drivers are definitely worse. I drive over 100 miles a day from Orlando to Tampa, and I can confidently say that, at most, maybe 20% of FL drivers use the turn signal.

Just last week I was driving home from work around midnight on a Saturday. I signal to pass a car in front of me. This completely insane fucker going 90 mph in a Mercedes shoots up right behind me out of nowhere. I didn't see him because the moment I looked nobody was there.

Apparently this really pissed him off So he passes me, cuts in front of me and just slams on his breaks, all while on a fairly busy interstate. So I slam on mine almost rear ending him. Then he speeds off cutting in and out of traffic like a maniac.

I was furious. Had to go home a pour myself a drink to calm down.

But yes, people down here drive like assholes.

If only you had a dash cam. Then even if you had ran straight into his rear end you could have shown your insurance company the video and they would have laughed and found the asshole at fault.

Yeah, I'm thinking about getting a dash cam on my next car.

Let's me tell you. It's like that everywhere no matter where you go. You think one state is the worst then you move to a different state.

i have a complex about late 90s/early 2000s cadillacs and mercury grand marquis because of living in central florida my whole life

they're guaranteed to be driven by 80+ year old people who drive 40 in 65s and do not look at all before turning out anywhere

orlando is okay, miami sucks
