doom 2 is closer to dukes release date![]()
Unsure if OP chose DOOM II instead of DOOM in order to give Duke 3D a fighting chance or if OP wanted a fair fight and is just unaware that DOOM is significantly better than DOOM II.
No love for the RPG or pipebombs? My problem with Duke is the lack of good weapons, besides the shotgun. And accuracy is terrible in Duke. Doom 2 handle this very good.

Trip mines were amazing as well, especially in MP. You place them in doors, close the doors, and when someone goes to open it they're toast. No love for the RPG or pipebombs?
Shrapnel City was a great third episode. The 2nd episode did suck though.Duke Nukem 3D has a very strong 1st episode but the other ones weren't that good.
DOOM 2's maps are not as good as the original DOOM and Ultimate DOOM but it has the best FPS weapon ever conceived (SSG) and the new enemies make the combat superior.
I think i prefer DOOM 2 overall but it's very close.
Duke Nukem 3D was a great game of course, especially at the time. The level of interaction, the levels, just the overall experience. But it's hard to ignore that Doom 2 (and 1) are STILL getting love in the form of maps, modifications, etc. It's absolutely insane. If Duke 3D continued to have that kind of love and support, I'd probably be singing a different tune.
Of course it is, it's a beloved and awesome game. However, compared to what the DOOM community has done, did, and continues to do it's hard to compare IMO.But Duke3D is still getting love and support from the community. Yeah, it's not as big as Doom's community but there's still a lot of people making stuff for it even today.
Duke 3D also came out 2 years later than Doom 2. Game engines were moving pretty quick back then. I wonder what would be different if Doom 2 came out 2 years after Duke 3D.Some of the details I remember feom Duke3D that Doom did not have.
- Sprites for shell casings and bullet holes. They would leave mark around the world.
- Sprites for blood splatters on the walls and floors. Blood would pool around and enemy when you kill them.
- Walking over a dead enemy would leave bloody foot prints around the level
- Breakable walls to hide secret areas
I somehow missed this response, but I was agreeing with this. I don't think it's fair to compare the two when it comes to mechanics because 2 years then was huge, lol. Engines were changing drastically with the smallest amount of time.![]()

Yea that's why I picked doom 2 instead of 1 because of the even bigger jump that would beI somehow missed this response, but I was agreeing with this. I'd feel it'd be more fair to compare Duke 3D to Blood or Shadow Warrior because at least they'd be on par engine-wise.
