Durante's Dark Souls II verdict - PC Gamer

Sorry, I didn't have an opportunity to test that.

Someone earlier in the thread asked for the worst screenshot (why would you do that :P), well this is the worst one I took:

Since you are at this part of the game, can you post a picture of this staircase...

Thanks

Take solace in the fact that it seems to be a particularly smooth, unshakable 60 with excellent object motion blur.

I mean, there are games out there that feel sluggish even when they're running at 60 due to weird frame handling and the like, and DS II doesn't seem to have any of that.

At least it's considerably better than what we got on DS1(by default). Maybe in DS 3 we'll get 144 fps with object motion blur :)

That's in response to the question of whether or not it worked with SLi, since some games behave strangely with more than one GPU.

Either way, I'm assuming SLI support will be fine. I'm not even remotely worried about that. In the last several years, the only games I can remember having any real SLI problems with were CoD: Ghosts and Titanfall.

=(

That area looked sooooooo good in the demos, too. Now it just looks... terrible :(

Good article though. If anyone is responsible for me getting this game at release, it would be you. I'm not sold though. Still very bitter...

Yeah it's still nowhere near as flashy and dynamic as before which is still really disappointing.

It's the "What could have been" scenario

Great article! Glad to hear that the PC version will be the definitive version.

Also:

"In future articles we will look at some tweaks using generic tools in order to further improve Dark Souls 2’s graphics, and later on investigate its technology in more depth to determine what else might be possible with game-specific modifications."

Okay, so here's a question. Durante says the game runs great on a "modest" setup. I'm not worried about my rig, but rather my friend's, who is running a 4890 and a Phenom x4. Do you think he'll have any problems at 1080p, aiming for 30+ FPS?

Can you turn off V-sync? I assume you'd be able to force it off regardless (through drivers) unless it's tied to the engine in some way causing issues.

Related to that, can the frame rate go above 60?

So from implemented what durante did for dark1?

Not specifically, no. Supporting 60 FPS and high resolutions is trivial for any modern game engine that's meant to work on PC, which is why Dark Souls II has those things now.

I do seem to remember Durante noting that some early screenshots of this game's AO seemed to produce the exact same artifacts as his implementation in DSFix.

Any updates on that, Durante? Hopefully that was a coincidence and they didn't actually swipe it from you without permission.

Thanks

I've let go of the Dark-Souls-II- that-could-have-been and it's beautiful staircases plunging into darkness a long time ago, but still, I'd be curious to see that too.

Also, the article was really interesting. Can't wait to read the follow-up.

Durante, do you have any info regarding performance for Team Red people?
I know you stated you were running on Geforce 770, but given the surprising amount of games that have problems on ATI cards (Rage, Prototype, Saboteur, Amazing Spiderman), I feel the need to ask about it.

Let me trickle some screenshots in here.

This seems to be the biggest improvement texture wise I've seen so far, that area looks like butts on consoles. Also, do you know if that area in Forest of The Fallen giants looks any less terrible with DOF on, the PC gamer screenshot seemed to have it off for that one.

Impossible to know without any tests.

It should be okay though.

High resolution, 60fps instead of mid 20's, fast loading instead of 20-30 seconds per load. That's enough for me. Glad I only did a trial run on the PS3 version through Gamefly.

You know what's not part of this article, but kind of nice? The game supports some interesting combinations for remapping KB/M controls. The default setup uses double clicks and various Control and Shift combinations, which is something PC ports are often lacking.

Same here, (although I hastily completed the game). I'm now getting ready for a very long and enjoyable walk through. I'm eager to sunbro once more.
