Durante's Dark Souls II verdict - PC Gamer

Anyway, regarding the "Modest computer" stuff. If my rig can run DS1 with a nice amount of downsampling, is it a given that I'll be able to run this at 30 locked, at the very least? My HD5870 is getting really old she is, my C2D E8500 even more so.
I would certainly expect so, yes.

Final screenshot for today:

(this is one of the first I took, still with starting armor)

Looks like I need a 36o controller for this game.O_o

Dark Souls is kind of a tough game to map to KB/M due to the way it uses the d-pad and both sets of shoulder buttons, but it's really not too bad since you're free to remap the controls, and most of those are probably available on the keyboard as well.

Also, I LOVE that the PC version lets you toggle blocking, sprinting, and walking instead of needing to hold the button down.

There is an xinput wrapper for DS3 too.

Anything with Xinput probably works.

Hell, I think the Wii U Pro Controller might be really good for this if you don't mind the layout. All digital shoulder buttons would make it preferable to some people.

How will my i5-3570k and GTX 480 do with this game? Is 60fps @ 1080p doable?

Durante if you (or anyone who has it) could post screens of all the default controls for mouse and keyboard it would be very appreciated. I use a controller that emulates those and this way I could have my profile ready for launch.

I wonder how is the animation quality in this game. Animations were really great in Dark Souls 1 and I would argue that they are even more important than the graphics quality. Can anybody please tell me how the two games compare in this respect?

Better in some ways, worse in others. Animations generally look smoother than 1, but there's a bit of glide where the first one felt precise with its animations. Keep in mind however, that this is largely due to the movement getting a big overhaul; it's now fully analogue in terms of velocity, so pushing the control stick an arbitrary amount will give different speeds, instead of just walk/jog/sprint in 1. On top of that, your roll distance now scales much more accurately with equip weight, so you'd notice a tangible difference between 40 and 50% equip load.

Overall I'd say that the walking animations don't have the same weighty look about them as 1 did with heavier armour, but they do a good job for such a large range of movement, and aside from that it's all good. Rolling and casting specifically I think look better than the first.

Thanks. That actually sounds pretty good to me.
