Ugh so no real controller support? I thought we were past this. Do I really have to play it with a keyboard? Some are even saying it's better with a keyboard? Wat? A platformer? :/

What do you mean by new dude? As in, someone else has taken on the name "Robot Science" creating the same genre of music?

I know the gent doing Robot Science also has another project, Giraffage, but not understanding what you're saying.

I meant that Robot Science did the music for the prototype. The released version is a new dude.

Yay, some people have different tastes/backgrounds than me!
(not to say that they shouldn't have gamepad support).
What's wrong with joytokey?

Well, at least the criticism that not everyone is catered to is valid. Of course, there are the usual ways, Xpadder Joy2Key etc.

edit: you edited. :)

edit²: and the usual complaint about mapping software is that it doesn't support one of the biggest advantages of sticks: the analogue movement isn't there because it's mapped to binary button presses on the keyboard.

Sorry I just think a precision platformer in the same vein of SMB, I Wanna Be The Guy with a keyboard just sounds terrifying lol. I will most likely still buy it, I'll probably play around with the bindings

Again: This game DOES have native controller support. You do not need Joy2Key. The only thing is that you need to use the IN-GAME menu to map the controls to a pad.

Even if the game supported it for some inexplicable reason, analog control is worthless for games like this. You should be running at full speed, after all.

It has controller support. I've been playing it with my Saturn USB controller.

You just have to manually map it in game.

Currently I have

Dash = right shoulder
A = Heavy Attack
B = Light Attack
C = Jump

Turn off D3DOverrider. Or at least disable it for the Dustforce executable. (I had the same problem)

Came to post this tip after troubleshooting it myself. You can actually leave v-sync on and just disable triple buffering and it should still work (at least on my system).

So I saw this on the front page when looking for the Qube demo and decided I had to buy it. Man what an awesome title! Feels like N+ meets Cave Story with plenty of unique traits to boot. Using the 360 controller blows for this, the d-pad is so awful it's not even funny, I may have to find another way of playing it because it's extremely difficult to play a 2D game with a joystick...

I'd actually sort of liken it to Super Meat Boy meets Tony Hawk Pro Skater. You've got to ride the rails while keeping your combo up, but instead of doing tricks and flips you're 2D platforming and/or taking out enemies.

It took me a bit to get the hang of it - I was sort of approaching it like a traditional speedrun/2D platformer, and was getting crazy frustrated that I'd finish in short order with D's and C's for my ranking. Now that I've sort of focused on finding my route through each level and perfecting that while keeping my combo chain going, though, I find it crazy addictive.

Tried my wired 360 pad and went back to the keyboard. Never tried to sync my a DS3 but I'll mess w/ it later.

Haven't posted a meaningful score yet but haven't a blast trying to perfect runs. It's great looking at the top run, seeing good ideas to implement while still thinking you might have better ideas in some spots. That may change in a few days. So addictive.

I'm wondering if the custom maps will also support leaderboards. That would give this game very long legs.

Anyway. I wish there was an icon, but I'm loving it.

One thing I can't figure out: If you have a long straightaway, is it faster to dash constantly the entire way across or will you go the same speed if you only dash once at the beginning?

The leaderboards are full of people mashing dash, even when the guy is already running at full speed*. I have a feeling that it's not actually doing anything.

*Yes, I realize that it's a good idea to dash when starting from a standstill or after landing from a jump. I'm just talking about a long straight.

I think dash speed is the same as run speed, where everyone really makes up time is that you can dash downward. Dash downward onto an incline and you'll rocket across the screen.

Hah, I'm tied for number one on the leaderboards for best time in that one level with 1 enemy. ~1.2 seconds or so.

edit: Trying to use a Street Fighter pad for this now, after a few hours of keyboard. Works well, but I sense some lag (xpadder).

Yep, but only after the apex of your jump. I really need to get used to that.

This game is awesome so far. I wasn't expecting the levels to be so open to experimentation.

Wow, the character designs look so boss xD
At first I thought it would be a fighting game.

Will definitely pick it up down the road.

Edit: Do you fight dust bunnies or not?

It's been a quite awhile since I've played that prototype but if I'm remembering right it's very similar to the tutorial of the actual game.

I'm really enjoying this. The music is great!

I spent one hour straight perfecting my tutorial level run without getting frustrated or annoyed at all. I spent the next 2-3 hours on a few of the actual levels to see what the progression is like and I can tell that some of these are definitely going to be a real challenge to double S rank.

I think I'm going to play through for completion and then go back and work on my times and scores later. Is the friends leaderboard working for everyone? My wife's scores and none of my friends were showing up for me. Only my own score was showing up.

Yeah the game doesn't have bosses, it's really a speed run style game with some enemies in the way. Killing the enemies is FUN though, it's a brand new element that wasn't in the game before. Those slime dudes....

I tried playing with an arcade stick yesterday but it felt weird, eventually I switched back to keyboard. At first I hated the whole getting 2 S system, once I realized you don't have to rush, it was a lot better, and I was getting a lot of Ss (except on Silver doors, damn) The game is great. The level variety is really there in spades, the enemies are interesting (and tough to kill sometimes), and the art and music is pretty great. I wanna try MP.

Hey is there any difference between the vacuum guy and the other dudes? I know that the pom pom girl has a shallow jump but she can triple air jump. Does the old guy have a wider attack or something?

I have a very poor performance on my rig. It's odd, because I can play other games in 1080p w/o a problem.

Help.

I've got a Phenom II 955 and 560ti and it still kinda chugs in the hub world.
But it's fine in the levels themselves. I hope that doesn't changes in later stages.

Was the prototype written in Flash? That could be the reason why.

I don't know, it doesn't feel that way. The prototype did have a weird interface/feel to it. The game does evoke "oh it looks like a flash game" type comments, but Meatboy and Binding of Isaac are both flash games I guess? The game is solid solid soliddddd.

The game was originally written using Game Maker.
