Re-releases, older films, double-dips, etc.:

I don't know how the digital remaster of this looks (at $9.95, I have my doubts), but this is a classic science-fiction film, with some amazing visual effects for 1936.

Television: too much of it, as usual. This looks interesting:

God, this is a brutal week. I'm going to have to hold off on a few things because there's really no way I can justify six movies and a TV box set.

Already got my Sopranos set in the mail (great price: $58 and a $10 rebate to boot!), and I'm definitely grabbing the Machinist and Swimming with Sharks: SE. Down the road, I'll pick up the Sling Blade director's cut, Dead Ringers, and the new Fox Noir discs. I've also got Layer Cake on the way from CD Wow since I'd be crazy to pass up the 2-disc for $10.

I don't want to sound like a jackass, but do you people collect these or something?

I mean I could understand owning some classics that you'll watch at least 5 times, but collecting as much as these threads imply is kinda too much. I've seen people have an entire wall of DVDs with dozens still in their wrappers, and they're like "Haven't gotten to those yet." That's a bit too materialistic IMO. Hell, I haven't bought a DVD in 2 years because I can see BR coming.

Smells faintly of rancid stilton.
How could you leave out one of the best movies released this week

You do know that BRD players will play all DVDs, right?

Not buying something because of something better coming in the future is the dumbest excuse ever. With that frame of mind, I won't buy a single BRD disc ever because there will be a better format in five or ten years.

I don't think there will be another movie format for 10-30 years.

The entire reason for BR is because DVDs don't have enough space for HDTV movies. DVDs mastered standard def for movies. Without a new TV standard, DVDs would be here for a long time. BR is going to master HDTV def for movies. When's the next time there will be a TV standard change? A long time...like 30 years long time.

It's actually kind of cool - basically a speed metal re-telling of the Battle of Gettysburg. I've heard the CD, so I assume the DVD will just be a concert version.

Tokyo Pig!

Its about time. I've been waiting forever for this to come out on dvd. Its a very silly, hyper anime. Fun stuff.
