(available in a bundle with Dogtown and Z-boys)

Criterion:

B000A88EVE.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

(A two-disc edition, packaged with Walter Tevis's original novel. As excited as I am about this disc, I have to say that unless you're a hardcore Roeg or Bowie fan, this is definitely not a blind buy--rent first. As with many SF films that have cult followings, many of TMWFTE's fans will tell you that if you find it to be poorly paced and boring in certain parts, then you don't "get it." Beware.)

No boxart at Amazon for the Evil Dead 2 Book of the Dead Limited Edition.

No boxart for Los Desmadres de James Bond (starring Rafael Inclan), and I wish there were.

No boxart for Nude Women's League Wrestling Volume 3, starring Carmen Electra.

This documentary could be interesting:

B000ALM4G2.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

(someone on GAF needs to take a hit for the team and rent this--not me, I'm afraid)

Something tells me this movie's got kind of a Goth vibe to it, but I'm not sure--

Hell yeah.

I'm gonna rent The Man Who Fell To Earth. I'm very intrigued and if I dig it, then it might be a buy. I'll also probably rent the Family Guy movie since I'm not terribly optimistic.

Just picked this up for $9 used at my local music shop.

Someone must have received a review copy and then sold it to them, as it doesn't come out until 10/25.

<-- Jealous.

Hopefully my local best buys will put it out early!

I'll probably bite on the Carlito's Way DVD.... It is by the same director that did Carlito's Way and Scarface... it can't be that bad.

Fixed. That's a little bit different...

Only DVD worth owning in my opinion this week is Law and Order: SVU Season 2. I'm a little reluctant on Family Guy. If that turns out to be good, I'll get that one too.

I've already received the Man Who... set and it's an absolute stunner. This monstrous box is going to look fab on the shelf. :)

Gankutsuou dub is pretty iffy.

I don't listen to the English audio track, so this doesn't really affect me.

Panda-Z is good, but only 30 minutes long. The figure doesn't move, btw.

I knew that it was only 30 minutes, and I got it for $7 through DDD, so that's fine. The figure doesn't move? Damn. Oh well, that's what you get for $7.

I wish I had cash. I wanna buy Creature Comforts and Robots. I'd buy the Family Guy movie, but my roommate has it already (it's fucking hilarious!) and I'm soooo low on money. I'll buy it eventually, though. I'll also need to buy Spongebob Season 3 for my sister's birthday in October...

*sighs and looks at wallet*

I don't want to make a new thread for it and since we have DVD fans in here, enjoy the Japanese art for The Machinist courtesy of DVDAnswers:

Yeah--this release is tied with the five-disc Fanny and Alexander for the best packaging job Criterion's ever done (that is, if the menus match the boxart like they usually do).

When I picked up TMWFTE I also blind-bought Bad Timing--I have no idea what I'm in for, but I'm sure it's messed up, whatever it is.

monty python is mine

The edition they're selling at Best Buy has a bonus 16-page pamphlet of some kind--I don't know if that makes it worth getting from there, though.

I hear the new Monty Python set has a guide to everything that's on the DVDs, is there any way to get this seperate if I have the original box set?

Chrono, would you recommend Twelve Kingdoms? I've seen ads for it when I worked at Suncoast years ago, but I never got around to looking into it...

I picked up this at lunch... I hope my daughter likes it, she loves all Pixar flicks but walks away from Shark Tale... we will see...

Great art and design, terrible characters and story. A decidedly mediocre effort. (I have no idea why I paid to see it anymore... well, I guess it was the art.)

Robots is the worst CG movie I've ever seen, narrowly beating out Dinosaur and Ice Age.

I haven't seen Fish Tale, so I can't comment on that.

I only went to see it because I think Robin Williams is funny. But he wasn't funny in this, so save your money.

I thought Robots was really good - better than any of the shit Dreamworks pumps out. There are a lot of really clver ideas and concepts in the movie - like Rodney growing up and getting "hand-me-down" parts. The plot is a bit contrived (Save teh old robots from doom!!11!) and Robin Williams wasn't as funny as I'd hoped he'd be, but I came out of the theatre really jazzed none the less. I can't wait for the sequel.

Funny you say that my kids love Pixar stuff but my son asked to leave halfway through Shark Tale. At first I said no then a few minutes latter I was like why am I forcing them to sit through this, and bailed.

Uh, what the hell? Double post on GAF? Sorry...

BojTrek and darscot, don't worry, that just means your kids have good taste. :)

Also, Robots was done by the team that did Ice Age (another movie that I thought was really cool despite critical bashing). Seem like everyone and their mom hated SharkTale, though.

General consensus seems to go: Pixar > Dreamworks > Fox

Though, I think it should go: Pixar > Fox > Dreamworks

Ice Age and Robots were better then any of Dreamworks' sorry attempts at storytelling.

Didnt even know new Champloo was out, gonna have to pick that up tommrow

I ended up picking up the Ultimate Warrior DVD, awesome (and hilarious) DVD.

A must buy for any wrestling fan

The new Monty Python set is nice.

It's just short of half the size of the original set, since each dvd is in an individual slim case (like the OfficialXboxMagazine discs). New to the set are 2 bonus discs, with

1. Live at the Hollywood Bowl
2. Live at Aspen (98 US Comedy Arts Festival Tribute)
3. Parrot Sketch Not Included: 20 years of Python
4. Monty Python's Fliegender Zirkus: A Monty Python episode in German

The booklet guide to the episodes is a Best Buy exclusive. Very cheap compared to the old set. $109 at Best Buy. Glad I held off until now.
