I thought riley was all about showing "Loyalty". Dude didn't even want to pay Wade, gross

Just throwing this out there cause it isn't being stated enough. Wade wanted 3 yrs / $60M last year. We essentially offered him more money for the same length but because it was broken into a 1 yr and a 2 yr deal he was able to turn it down and talk shit about Riley. He didn't talk to Riley? Then makes that public? He asked the Heat and Riley to go thru his agent only this offseason. Riley was honoring his wishes.

I love Wade to Death. He is THE man in Miami, he has usurped Marino. But the man is a diva.

Wtf? He offered a 34 year old shooting guard all the available cap space that the team had. 20 million plus per season. You want Riley to pay him 30+ and then the Heat will look like Lakers did with Kobe? Sometimes you just have be smart and not let emotions get the best of you.

The biggest issue here is Wade's agent. He cost Wade a lot of money, because he's also represents Bosh. When LBJ left, he got Bosh a max deal and Heat couldn't afford the same for Wade.

I'm just curious about what in the world the Bulls are doing. All they were saying after the season was "we gotta get younger and more athletic". I guess they forgot that part already.

This 34 year old hobbled Wade would still be the best player on the Heat today. He was the best player for the Heat during last year's playoffs. And guess what...WADE PLAYS. Bosh is set to make more than Wade as he sits for 2 years.

Yes, and they still offered him the whole cap space left. And they can't do anything about the Bosh situation today. That contract was done before the health issues.

And yes Wade does play. And in two years he might not. Guards age fast. Giving him a 3 year contract for 20+ million is retarded. For sentimental reasons it would've been the right move, but that's about it.

They have his bird right don't they? Why not go over the cap and retain him if he really only has 2-3 years left? He's an icon for the franchise. He's probably brought in more money than he was paid throughout his entire career. The next 3-4 year belong to Cleveland and Golden State anyways

There are a bunch of free agents coming to the market in the next couple of years. So you want your team (I'm assuming you are a Heat fan) to go over the cap and not even be able to offer something to upcoming free agents, just so they can be the 4th best team in the East? That's how you end up in the cellar for a long long time. It's a shame he can't finish his career with the Heat and it's a shame that Bosh might not play again, but it still was the right move.

And it's obvious that Wade wasn't happy about what happened two years ago. But again, that's on his agent, not on the Heat. Serving one client ended up hurting the other.

They saw an opportunity that allowed them to avoid a full rebuild and keep their star happy (for now). No one wants sub 25-win seasons for a few years hoping to get enough picks and then praying said picks pan out so that we can maybe convince a superstar or two to join us sometime in the next decade to get us out of a vicious loser cycle.

(BTW, Bulls avg team age is actually lower than it was last season, so we did get younger :P)

Can't offer Wade the max even with his bird rights because of the cap hold for next year. By doing that, we wouldn't be able to sign anyone to a max next year unless you trade Dragic, Bosh, and Mcbob. The Max next year is looking to be around 33 million, right now we have a cap of 27mil next year. We plan on moving pieces, like Dragic and Mcbob to make closer to 40mil. Wade's contract would have had an opt out, but at the max, that cap goes down to around 35. Making it hard to sign him, a max player, and anyone else. Plus, to offer him the max, we needed to trade Mcbob (which the heat were trying to do) and refuse to take up TJ's offer sheet and basically commit to 8 minimums. We didn't trade Mcbob, because teams wanted Jrich or Winslow attached to him, so obviously we didn't do it. Next year, Mcbob has an opt out, but even if he opts-in we can move him because 6mil/yr for him would be really cheap.

The offer we gave him, was pretty much the most we could do to try to retain the team a bit and not resort to trading everyone and building the team with minimums. Now, we can sign TJ, keep Mcbob as a rotation player, and give time to the rooks. Hope everyone has a good year and outplays their contracts, and move them next year to create cap for 2 max players, which is definitely what they're trying to do. The Heat most likely won't let Bosh play again, or if he plays, hope he finishes out the year and trade him at the end of the year, but most likely not clear him. Doing that opens around 60mil in cap for next year, so we can go after Westbrook, Griffin, Milsap, anyone really. Will they sign? Maybe, maybe not, but you have to put yourself in the position to make it possible.

From everything I heard, it wasn't about the money. What Chicago gave whims basically a match in the Heat's offer when you include the state tax and his endorsement deals (which had language of him staying in Miami). Wade just wanted to feel wanted and prioritized. I don't think the Heat organization thought he would walk and called Wade's bluff and Wade bounced to Chicago.

Also Dwade wasn't our best player last year, although he did have a good post-season. Our team was a net worse with him on the court because of the 0 defense he now plays, even though our offense was better. His RPM rates lower than Jrich and Dragic's and all his numbers are trending downward. He did have good games in the playoffs, but you have to wonder how many outhouse he has left.

Me personally, I would've wished he would have stayed. Make a little less cap next year to maybe only go after one maxi you trade Dragic/Mcbob and try to build one more team that could give Wade an outside shot at a title. However, Pat doesn't play the emotions game, and he shouldn't because his job is to make thefts basketball move at all times. You can't really argue that this was a bad basketball move either.

Gonna be interesting to see if Bosh plays a single game. If he doesn't then he's off the books for next offseason and we might be able to attract 2 pieces at once? I wonder if Bosh wanting to play last playoffs and the Heat not letting him was apart of Wade / front office not getting along. Bosh wants to keep playing for a couple weeks at a time and has Hope it'll be fine and he can play again. The Heat want to get Bosh off the books asap, it has to be a full year from his last played game to make that happen. I don't think they want to help him try to play thru this at this point, I think they just want him off the books. Bosh wanted to play last postseason, the team doesn't let him and then we lose to the Raptors. Maybe I'm imagining this all but I don't see that sitting well with Wade if that's how it went down.

Oh, so you want superstars? Talk to me when that becomes an actual ability instead of collusion among the stars themselves to get together. I'm talking FA in general and if the money is there, they'll be interested. They always are.
Signing B-tier players is something any team can do.
