There's a lot of dumb sports fans everywhere.

This same guy will probably get all choked up when the Heat retire his jersey. I hope the Heat do one better, and make him a statue. No matter what, this is still Wade County.
The standing ovation is never going to end when he returns. They'll just have to play through it.

D Wade's Letter:

Dear Miami,

This has been an extremely emotional and tough decision to come to. After 13 years, I have decided to embark on a new journey with the Chicago Bulls. This was not an easy decision, but I feel I have made the right choice for myself and my family.

I started my NBA career with the Miami Heat in 2003 and it has been an honor to have played with them and help build a winning franchise with three NBA championships. I look back with pride and amazement at all we have accomplished together. I want to express my gratitude to the Arison family, Pat Riley, Coach Erik Spoelstra, the coaching staff, and the entire Miami Heat organization.

From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank the Miami community and especially #HEATNATION for all of their love and support over the years. It has been truly incredible. I am deeply moved and appreciative of the positive messages from my fans expressing that they want what's best for me and I know they will support my decision. The memories including championship parades and five conference titles are incredible moments we have shared that will always remain close to my heart as I begin the next chapter of my life.

Growing up in Robbins, Ill., I never dreamed that an NBA career could have even been possible and that one day I would wear a Chicago Bulls jersey. Watching the Bulls growing up inspired me at an early age to pursue my dream of becoming a basketball player. My most treasured memories were watching my dad play basketball on the courts of Fermi Elementary School and developing my game at the Blue Island Recreation Center. I have never forgotten where I came from and I am thankful to have an opportunity to play for the team that first fueled my love of the game. Many of my family members still live in Chicago and I am excited to return home to a city very close to my heart.

I look forward to returning to my roots and to what lies ahead.

Much Love and Respect,

D. Wade

Also, the 1-1 with player option for Wade tells me that the Banana Boat Team is still in play for 2017.

Now that he's cut ties with Miami, why the fuck not? CP3 will be free, so all that leaves is convincing the Knicks to let Melo go. Doesn't sound like a hard sell to me.

I personally think the Bulls are assuming the same, that this is strictly a one-year thing and the second year is just what it took to lure him there. They're going to want to play Valentine that next year and Wade will want to join a superteam while he can still give some quality minutes.

Heat fan here with no grudge against Wade. Why would you even have one? Dude was great, brought us lots of championships, and now he's going back to his hometown. Miami couldn't assemble the deal to talk him out of it. Shit happens.

The era of "lifers" is over.

Of course he will get a statue. No matter what he is the greatest sports figure in our cities history and we still love him.

I think Miami gonna be a lot better than people think, dragic is a guy who needs the ball in his hands and wade kinda dominated it. Dragic/Richardson/Winslow/Bosh/Whiteside definitely good enough 5 to get you into the east playoffs they just need to work on their bench now, looks kinda bare

Great job by Pat Riley. I'm happy the Heat didn't end up overpaying an old player like the Lakers did. The NBA is a business and Riley made the correct business decision. Thank you to D. Wade for the great years. Looking forward to a new Heat era.

This all fucking day.

Fuck the Bulls.
The Bulls have gotten younger. They basically swapped:
  • Derrick Rose - 27
  • Joakim Noah - 31
  • Mike Dunleavy - 35
  • Pau Gasol - 36
for:
  • Jerian Grant - 23
  • Robin Lopez - 28
  • Rajon Rondo - 30
  • Dwyane Wade - 34

Jose Calderon is 34. So this move dumped a 34 and 35 year old for a 34 year old. The Bulls retain their financial flexibility for the next few seasons, have veteran mentors for young players, and now have a team that will actually be somewhat enjoyable to watch.

The only negative to this move is if you were all in on the Bulls tanking. If that's the case the Bulls should trade Butler and not do anything. There is no point in tanking for the #8 pick.

Rondo and Wade to the Bulls.

...These are the type of offseason moves/trades that would of made me throw my copy of NBA 2K out the damn window for it's ridiculous, unrealistic trade algorithms that ruin my franchise mode.

Hire Fred Hoiberg for a fast paced, transition offense volume shooting system
Trade Rose cause you want to get younger and athletic
???
End up with Rondo/Wade/Butler

Makes a lot of sense.

They lost Noah though right?

Noah is garbage. Even when the nba said he was the best defensive guy on the league, he was garbage. Bulls were a great defense cause their coach was miles above any other in the league defensive-wise. I've seen it with my eyes too many times Noah playing. No one should go through that shit. He's tall and "hustles a lot", the concept that some Bull's fan created to applaud garbage players.

Max Whiteside, then refuse to give Wade his due. Makes a lot of sense.

Great job by Pat Riley. I'm happy the Heat didn't end up overpaying an old player like the Lakers did. The NBA is a business and Riley made the correct business decision. Thank you to D. Wade for the great years. Looking forward to a new Heat era.

LOL of course you stan for this.

Pathetic, especially from you.

Wade deserves it. Also, why is no one talking about Gasol going to the Spurs? I just looked at his stats and he is still ridiculously good. Spurs won't be playing around next year.

I like this move alot, a backcourt of Rondo/Wade/Butler is nothing to scoff at.

The east looks alot better after the redistribution of players this off-season and my Raptors only got worse :(

He can score, but you might as well put a cardboard cutout of him on defense.

They'll go deep into the eastern conference playoffs, due to how weak the east is. An old Wade is still a top 5 player in the eastern conference.

Lol. And everybody, ESPECIALLY Heat fans, gave Cavs fans shit for burning Lebron jerseys. Not saying that it's ok, just pointing out the hypocrisy

Well, as a Clevelander, I know that the "Jersey Burners" were a very very small percentage of Cavs fans.....a few people did it and it became "everyone in Cleveland"....so I'm sure it's the same way with this Miami situation, although with the expanding prevalence of social media, it appears that it's more widespread. (key: appears)

Huge, long-time fan of Bulls Wade now.

Just like Wizards Jordan.

About to get that Bulls Wade jersey too.

The East is going to be really interesting...almost every team has a semi-reasonable chance to fight for a playoff spot, no matter how much hating you want to do.

Who's going to get the chance to lose to Lebron?

BTW, Rondo/Wade/Butler can work - especially if Mirotic/McBuckets become consistent outside threats, and if Butler improves his 3 point shooting to literally even league average. Wade is pretty good off the ball...he had to be in order to work with Lebron.

As a Heat fan, I'm not too broken up about this because even with Wade the Heat were still going to have a hard time winning anything of actual value. We might have gotten a four seed but then that would mean gettin swept by Lebron. Kevin Durant basically sealed the NBA's fate for the next three years anyway so now is a good time to start a rebuild and I'm interested in our core.

That being said, Wade is awesome. He's the guy that got me into basketball. He brought three championships to my city. He revived my team when Zo got sick and nuked all of the Heat's plans. He's one of the best SG's ever. I'm going to miss the guy.

I really hope the move to the Bulls works out. I don't trust that organization and I have no idea how he fits on that team especially with Rondo. I don't want to see Wade lose in the twilight years of his career. At least make the playoffs!

The reason the Lakers are in such disarray is because they kept feeding an aging superstar who's performance and health were on a major decline, big bucks. They let nostalgia and loyalty come before business sense and wanting to win. And they're paying for it. They wasted tens of millions of dollars on Kobe Bryant in the last 3 years of his career and ran their franchise into the ground.

Pat Riley was not about to let the same happen in Miami. WhIle Wade was healthy this past season, the prior 2 or 3, Wade missed nearly 1/3 of the regular season games. His numbers have declined and time is not on his side. His style of play is not conducive to aging. He has no jump shot. And he's not going to be able to keep slashing, euro stepping and getting knocked around for much longer. It's a given that Wade's production and explosiveness will continue to decline going forward and while it's certainly hard for Miami to watch Wade walk away, good for them to have enough sense not to bet their franchises future on a player that wont be able to deliver them back to greatness. He's past his prime and he'll be lucky to be a starter 3-4 years from now.
Just catching up with the thread. This is an excellent post that all real Heat fans should appreciate, and fake Heat fans should learn from.

Pat could've moved McBob at the expense of losing Winslow and more to get to Wade's number, he refused. That alone makes me feel better about the Heat's future. Sad to see Wade go, but that's the nature of sports unfortunately.

I guess I like the move even though I have no idea why anyone would want Rondo. I also don't think Hoiberg is anywhere near being an NBA-caliber coach. The Wade/Butler combination should be interesting, but I still think the Bulls struggle to make the playoffs if they even get there at all.
