Every year it seems like the designs for these games get girlier and girlier.

At least Wei Yan seems okay. Might just wait on Gundam 3. I'm not sure yet.

So Co-Op is only in Conquest mode?

Yes, Story mode is only single player.

And I approve of this! I've been clocking in nonstop hours since I got my copy on friday. Wish I could check my playtime haha. Cleared the final kingdom (Jin) 2 days ago. Now working on Chronicles mode. I got I guess at laest the top right cleared up? To follow up on bits I posted in the other thread. Some serious awesome music

Anyone tried co-op online, is there one?

Yes there is in Chronicles/Conquest mode. Haven't tried it yet. Hell I haven't even tried offline coop. It's been a solo affair haha.

It's fine for me. I always went through the game with one character on each side (Guan Yu, Xiahou Dun and a random for Wu) and then I looked back and realized that I had to do the same thing over again with 30 more... and quit.

This makes for better story (hey, Guan Yu is still around at Wu Zhang Plains!), and hopefully opponents will retreat or die as they're supposed to (from your history's point of view). It also gives me an opportunity to play with more characters... although I assume that each will only have one or two missions, and I wonder in which battles characters like Pang Tong were the most relevant figure.

And then if I want to make an über-Guan Yu, there's Conquest Mode for grinding out. Sounds just fine.

Yeah, with it going this route, it's a little more accurate. Though they still go for a little poster boy focus with some odd choices. Regardless, lots of people die and it's all on course leading up to end of the Three Kingdoms. The Jin was pretty refreshing and it was great seeing the next generation continue the battle their mentors/parents fought.

Other thoughts about the story mode. Some great music if not some of the series best for the finale and thematic battles.

Huang Gai's theme for Chi Bi: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_zEcQZ_c_o&feature=related
Wei Final Battle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJdKSHR5cso&feature=related
Jin Final Battle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-3O7yoHyP4&feature=channel_video_title

Honestly was a really great feeling hearing some of those finale themes. Especially the two I posted.

Also, the ending was epic and rewarding after going thru it all. I recommend playing the Jin kingdom last for that effect.

Thing about Chronicles mode is that a lot of battles are pretty brief. Might just be an earlier on thing though. All 39 maps are in it in some form or another though. A breakdown to what the missions variety consists of:

- Character legends
- Escort missions
- City Gate battles
- Animal guardians
- Status battles
- Special weapon battles

I imagine the later missions are full on battles similar to story mode.

Proudly debt free. If you need a couple bucks, just ask.
lol I was going to make this thread this weekend. OP looks great

So insanely hyped. Finally looks like they are stuffing it with content unlike DW6. Though I did put 100 hours into DW6 so I'm worried how much of my life will be devoted to this..

psn: Armonix

Add me fellow tiger generals, we shall co op

I stopped at the last PS2 version. Not sure if I can take much more, hahaha.

(Dynasty Warriors 3 Xtreme Legends was the best one)

Agreed, archers in that game on Very Hard is awesome.

The only real disappointment I have with the game is the decision to go with the switchable weapons and cloned movesets. It really homogenizes the characters more that I would like. Still EX attacks, Musou attacks, and different stats might be enough to differentiate characters enough to use them all.

How are the Achievements/Trophies in this game? Is it a long grind for the 1000 / Platinum? I think 30~ hours is about all I can play of these games before I get sick of them.

I remember many moons ago, trying to beat your online scores, but the best I could do was like 4 or 6 or something, while the top 3 spots were taken up by you, lol.

:OO OMG that was eons ago!

Yep, Challenge Mode was tons of fun too, good times.

I used to play Dynasty Warriors 3 for hours upon hours. A year or so later I got Dynasty Warriors 4 and quickly got bored of the formula.

Has the series done anything new to warrant me to give it another chance?

Probably not, DW3+XL was the last great successful leap in terms of evolution of this series.

Seems that way. Cautiously optimistic for this one. This looks to be the most upgraded Dynasty Warriors game since the jump form 2 to 3.

The Motorcycle That Wouldn't Slow Down
If nothing else, you could count on the English versions having some decently-composed box art. Now, uh... not so much.

If only by virtue of DW6 being a massive shitpile, so any amount of upgrades to the formula will seem like an astronomical improvement by comparison.

Really on the fence about this one. There's so much about it that just screams "awful" to me. Cloned characters (fewer clones than DW6, yes, I know), real-time weapon change, no Free Mode, can't select your character in Story Mode, and a whole bunch of minor stuff all add up to me not being sure if I even want to bother. DW Gundam 3 is only a few months away, after all.

You know what, I might actually buy this. Or at least rent it.

I haven't played a DW game since 3. Has the series progress or regressed since then? Cuz I fucking loved 3.

Pretty excited here. Dynasty Warriors used to be my go-to series for the summer. What's with the "new" characters though? Most of them have been in the series for ages.

Maybe as NPC's, but not playable.

EDIT: Oh, I see now. Never mind.

Refers to the time they're updated to the official site.

They're really doing a slow reveal on the roster? Surprise! Cao Cao is at it again.
I wonder why it took them so long to reveal Gan Ning then. Only cool character on the Wu side.

Can not wait. I hope it's as good as 5 was (Main series pinnacle imo).

I'm a little apprehensive about the story mode, the last time they did it like this was in DW4. Perhaps the next one will go back to individual stories, but I can see them sticking with kingdom plots to reduce costs and still deliver a massive cast.

Does the story mode let you choose between a predetermined stable of characters or is the specific character determined by the stage?

I really loved the PS2 versions, but man, 6 was awful. Does this game move back towards the PS2 era?

Lol, Wu has always been the best kingdom. Shu second. Wei last. :p

Individual story modes tends to have overlapping stages and repeated events anyway so I don't mind Kingdom Modes as long as it's expansive. Not letting you change characters in this game does suck, I think they just don't want to spend time on substituting characters in those story events.

Wu are a bunch of clowns that keep getting their leaders killed.

Xiahou Dun ate his own eye. That alone makes Wei better.

Yeah I'm not really upset with the approach as conquest mode seems like the real meat of the game anyway, and it's cool to see them change it up again. They seem to change up the story mode every couple entries as an experiment. I'm very interested in whether or not characters that use the same weapon as their primary weapon will have different attack patterns or not and stuff like that. 6 had way too much overlap.

I guess I should grind through more of 6 empires before this comes out :3

I remember pronouncing Cao Cao as Cow Cow...

I like some of the character designs and others, not so much.

I remember the games pronouncing it as Cow Cow until 6. Could be wrong on that though.

I was pretty ticked about not being able to choose characters for Story Mode, but man I just can't resist these games. I'm still totally pumped to play it. It's going to be interesting to see how it plays compared to Sengoku Basara, which I've been playing for countless hours since October.
