I'd say Dynasty Warriors 8 is worth it. It's a huge improvement over 7.
This is probably the DW title that is the most worth $60 this generation with free mode being back and all characters having their own unique moveset. I've heard mostly good things about the story mode too, so you can take that however you want.
In my own opinion though, this game is probably worth $60 because I can easily see my myself putting at least 50 hours into it and if that is anything to go by putting that much time into DW7, you are really only scratching the surface if you want to go all the way in collecting the better weapons and maxing out various character's stats.
There is a lot of content here if you are a Musou fan.

Everybody is decloned, basically. It's been a common complaint in past titles forever now.

Well, everyone has their own EX weapon now, so if you stick with EX weapons, everyone will be unique.
We're even getting even more weapons with DLC now too, so we now have more weapons than characters, lol.

Yes to co-op in story mode, online or local.
Nope, Japanese audio is free DLC. Not even sure when, hopefully when the game comes out. And, sure, let's blame Microsoft~

We shall lol, don't remember where but Koei did say it was basically Microsoft's non-inferior port policy etc that DW7 couldn't have it on the disc, sigh can't wait for all games to be on Bluray storage size discs XD
Whoot to online co-op, boo that my friends will probably get it on Xbox so =/, well maybe they'll release Empires and Xtreme Legends on 360 as well if sales are good XD

Pretty much. Only Sun Quan is the EX user for swords. Cao Cao has the general sword, Sima Zhao has the striking broadsword and etc.
It's like what they did in DW7XL where they gave new weapons out that were similar looking but different to Guan Yu and the others.

dont forget Sun Quan got a new dlc weapon for 8 (at least i think its for him aka that fire sword)

Well it's likely and for all purposes really should go to him but he's still stuck with the normal sword for this game.
It'll very likely require a new game that doesn't use any of the DLC from this game (or at least the weapon DLC) before the Flame Sword goes to Sun Quan.

They'll still release the XL expansion (which probably will be a download this time) and Empires 8 before ever getting to a 9. I guess a PS4 port of 8 is possible though, but I'd guess any extra content there would make it to the XL expansion pack.
I like most of them, its a nice throwback to the older titles.
DW9 could still very well be 2 or 3 years off dude, its in very early production if even Omega Force has started work on it yet.
One thing Dynasty Warriors has always got right is the music,

How does this game feel? I played a Demo for what i think was this game, I created a character and was given a time limit..and i kept failing..was that the same game? It looked kinda bland, worst than WO3 by far..but i just took it to mean ot was a work in progress..has it improved any? any current gameplay/level playthrough vids?

Possibly the worst demo i've ever played. The game is alright though. Similar to empires in terms of gameplay but graphics are much better.

As a Romance of a Three Kingdoms fan first, the character designs and presentation drive me a bit crazy at times.
But damn it if the series isn't fun. Not a fan of the term "guilty pleasure" but if I have one in gaming, this it.
Constant back and forth between "never buying this circus crap again" and "shut up and take my money."
I'll be playing Guan Yu because he became my favorite character (along with Pang De) in Romane of the Three Kingdoms IV on the PS1. Had no idea who they were -- just liked their beards and bandanas. Sort of funny now considering who the former is, not only in the game but even in Hong Kong and Taiwan (interesting HK movie/game note: I think Wei Shen in Sleeping Dogs has a Guan Yu tattoo). Coincidence of sorts that I find interesting. so I still always favor Guan Yu, Pang De, and Yan Yan if they're in a Koei game.

i dont think we'll see dw9 any time soon as we still have Toukiden stuff and Samurai warriors 4 to go with, also seems like the time for another handheld game to come out from them(wish we got that samurai chronicles 2 game thats stuck in japan.. or at least the characters in WO3 Ultimate)i think we may see a trailer for it at 2015's TGS as i'd expect japan to announce DW8 xtreme legends sometime soon and empires 7-9 months afterwards
That's just what I was saying, DW9 could still be a couple years off. Late 2015, or early 2016 release maybe? Its safe to say it will be on next gen consoles though with the PS4/Xbone releasing later this year.

Yeah omegaforce is definitely a studio that waits a few years before putting their games on new consoles, you'd be safe getting DW8 now

same problems as you have, first thing i'm probably gonna do is turn my comp on and enter the dlc codes for DW8 and input the code nintendo code for smt IV and get my $30. i wonder if they will have some costume dlc out on release(i feel bad for supporting this) or some of the bgm music.
I wasn't even going to buy SMT4 initially, but that $30 credit you get is very enticing. It's basically buy 2 get 1 free and I already bought FE months ago now.
If you played any DW title in the last 5 years (except for 6 maybe since that used the renbu system), you probably have a good idea of what to expect for this one. Much of the fundamentals stay the same but there are new mechanics and additions to the gameplay and combat now.
