E3 2008 Nintendo Conference

Wow, so it looks like the true hardcore Nintendo fans have finally had enough. The realization of Nintendo evolving and not needing you anymore must be a big punch to the gut. Can't say I blame you for being mad, as I sold my Wii system earlier in the year for a profit. I guess the blue ocean is a bit barren after all.

My personal true response :

Oh, what? A lame conference. Good thing my backlog is big enough so that I won't run out of games, but still meh. Maybe they'll announce something later this year.

My optimist fanboy response :

God, people are overreacting. It's clear they have some megaton surprises for later event, not on this downsized E3.

My pessimist fanboy response :

WTF Nintendo? No Zelda, Metroid, Icarus, anything? Just Animal Crossing and Wii Music? WTF.

my GOD you people are IDIOTS. you lose all faith in a company because they don't give you EXACTLY what you want? well, i hate to break it to you, but beggars can't be choosers. we beg and we beg for games we know are coming like Disaster Day of Crisis, or Fatal Frame 4, but Nintendo doesn't show them off at their conference! Oh no! They all must not exist now, because we can't watch other people play them! Certainly Animal Crossing isn't EXACTLY what we wanted because Nintendo showed off Wii Music, and now this "Motionplus" peripheral sooooo gimmicky since it's packed with Wii Sports 2. Why isn't Nintendo releasing an overpriced hard drive? Don't they want my consumerist whore-dollars? Woe is you! Woe is you, gamer who demands EXACTLY your wants and nothing else. Heaven forbid that there be OTHER people who like to play games who, and this is the truly awful part, may enjoy games of a different variety! So Nintendo decides to show off its NEWEST games that appeal to the largest market on their limited floor space, completely ignoring the games YOU want to see. Why? Well it couldn't possibly be that they want to maximize coverage of these games, so it must be because they hate you!

Seriously, do people learn nothing? at the end of the day, you all will be sucking Nintendo's balls saying how awesome the game you just bought from them was. it's true. anyone who played Galaxy, Kart, Brawl, or whatever other "hardcore" Nintendo game they bought because they like the series are unable to say they didn't have fun. stop being whiny pansies, and just look for what you like in what's there.

Wii Music looks pretty sweet, so does that WiiSpeak. There's plenty for me to look forward to, and Nintendo published games aren't the biggest items on my list. So please, stop whining. You "hardcore" are bigger disappointments than anything Nintendo did or didn't announce.

ok, i'm done. by the time this is up, i hope the thread hasn't normalize and i just threw a wrench into it, but this kind of whining is just stupid.

edit: oh great, i'm at the top of the page...

Well, I think most of the whining comes from the trolls, when I entered the thread I didn't see much in the way of N-tard blubbering... I mean really, there is some good stuff there, just not a lot, which admittedly took me by surprise.

That said, there's a shit load of stuff coming that'll be awesome, so no worries.

I think you are reading too much into GAF overreactions. As long as the hardcore Nintendo franchises remain (and they still do, regardless of what was shown at E3 2008), so will the hardcore fans.

Ddi you see any on the Nintendo conference? Except for the craptastic looking AC there was none.

Didn't they even explicitly state that the Mario and Zelda teams are hard at work?

Well after thinking about it for a few hours the Wii really is going on eBay. No Pikmin 3 is the straw that broke the camel's back. Maybe a soccer mom or mentally retarded kid will enjoy it.

really? so Nintendo is only working on 4 games? wow, that's a tiny amount for a huge fucking console manufacturer. your logic is AMAZING

so you're saying that Pikman 3 CAN'T POSSIBLY be in development then. good luck on getting a second Wii.

Wiimotion is mind blowing in it's own rite, and if utilized effectively, we could see some amazing stuff. But for me personally, it's the games, I just wish they had more to show...because we've heard about Castlevania fighter, Fatal Frame, Tales, ect. It just would have been nice to see what was in store.

You're also missing the point, or at least greatly overexaggerating. Because the point with most of the criticism that I can see here is *not* that anyone expected Nintendo to go all-out and focus exclusively on the "hardcore" games/genres. It's that most people wanted a *balance* between the two game philosophies.

For example, the Motion+ accessory. Seeing the sword-fight game was excellent, even to the core audiences, because it demonstrated how well Motion+ worked. However, there was much, much more potential there to advertise it, whether that would have been Pilotwings, Starfox, Zelda, Kid Icarus, Castlevania, and so on. Considering that Motion+ is arguably an accessory for the core/hardcore gamers, it makes a lot of sense to use one of those franchises/games in the demo of Motion+.

That's really the core of the argument I'm seeing. That there should have been a balance.

We were promised alot of things by a lot of people, though its not their fault. Its just that all the speculation coupled with the promises made by nintendo and the lack of information had people wondering

Kid Icarus by IGN
Games that would maximize all Nintendo's key franchises by Reggie
A big Holiday game by Reggie
Pikmin 3 by Kigari
Retro's new game by Hal Lab
A Prince of Persia game by Ubi
Punch out by Ngamer
2 new action games by ONM
A new capcom game by Ngamer
Something from Nintendo Power
A buttload of stuff from people like surfer girl (Punch Out, Warioware, Monster games' next, NST's new stuff, Wiixclusive from Ancel, Red Steel 2, etc.)

The fact that the ONLY rumored announcement that actually happened was Animal Crossing, after all the buildup and rumors, unsurprisingly resulted in a huge backlash

So what, we'll see the announcements about the few old hardcore franchises in the next E3 and they'll release them around 2010? Great

WiiMotion Plus IS mind blowing...I mean they just made that thing and already had a demo with it on Wii Sports 2, which is great! Now we just all need to be patient until they and 3rd parties come up with awesome games with the tech!

Well, the conference is mainly used to showcase new hardware and groundbreaking stuff...new games can be shown at a later time, much like how they did with Brawl. Not saying we'll see most of the stuff on the list, but.....we'll ...just see.

That's really it in a nut shell. But now you've got me thinking, it could be that these games were held back from the show for proper development with Wiimotion before their unveiling...

Ahh yes...Hal_Lab's Retro prediction. Forgot about that...he's been mia since that post though.

:lol at the people who are selling their console over a press conference.

The upcoming Wii games I'm looking forward to off the top of my head are Animal Crossing, Mad World, Little King Story, Rune Factory and Fatal Frame 4.

If you feel personally offended that a multi-billion dollar corporation isn't paying enough attention to you despite having games on the system that you want to play, either go outside or get laid.

Fuck'n A bubba! :D

E3 has become a show for the casual gamers, which isn't surprising since it's the biggest worldwide showcase they have to reach the largest possible casual audience

for the hardcore there are a lot of other shows. Just pay attention and great games will come out from there

NOW people know it; had it happened two days ago, this idiotic backlash wouldn't even exist

This has been great. The Nintendo conference alone has showed me that despite my assumptions, there are actually tons and tons of high school girls that frequent this forum. I never would have thought.

GTA: DS looks sweet. Completely hyped by the old school style which I've always preferred to the 3D iterations. Wii Music looks like something my friends who are afraid of Rock Band might actually try. Which is really funny considering my 3 year old son can play any track on the guitar or drums on expert without problems, yet they are still terrified by it. I'm not actually interested in it at the moment, gonna need more info first.

Of course MotionPlus and Wii Sports Resort look cool as hell (march huh? what happened to the not showing games unless they are close to release?). Can't wait to see the rest the shit they've got cooking for Holiday 08.

I do miss the old E3 though. Used to be so cool when they were catering to us...

Wow. I didn't think people like you existed. Most offensive thing I've heard all day.

Everything at E3 is there. And its nothing you don't know about. Its time to let go of your hope.

Really? I don't remember SSBB being in the press kit for E3 07 yet it managed to show up. Maybe you're right. Perhaps Nintendo, knowing that they'll continue to sell out everything they make have decided to simply milk Wii Music and Animal Crossing all they can this holiday by not releasing anything else. No surprises or anything else for the rest of E3. Is it possible? Sure, Nintendo loves money as much as the next giant company and they like to give their games room most of the time. Do I think it's likely? Nope. I like to think that if they aren't going to show more at E3, they'll show more very soon at some different venue.

The overreactions are just as amazing as the damage control.

No wonder this thread is the biggest of the three mega-conference threads. :lol

Do people already forget that Nintendo showed many games AFTER their conference in 2007?
At least they mentioned things in their 2007 conference relating to the "core gamer". I think last year they also had more content but that just may be the lack of a certain annoying middle aged woman

I don't know man, did you see those idiots on stage? The target audience seems clear.
I watched the Wii Sports Resort demonstration just now. One of the best moments of this E3 (IMO).

I'll catch some Wii Music next.

Regardless, the comment was uncalled for.

Isn't there another conference coming up for tomorrow or something? We really need one about games and no much about TV entertainment. I thought E3 was about games and everything, but now...? *looks @ Capcom* :lol

Just wanna say a couple of things.

I think at Nintendo, from '06 they've just decided to have this take on the conferences where they use it to boost data, appeal to the mainstream press with this "masses are loving our products" thing and show just three or four games per platform where at least 3 out of 4 of are coming out in next 6 months.

I mean, looking at the conference you'd think DS is going to suck balls even more then Wii, and yet we all know there's a motherfuckin truckload of great games in the pipeline.

Because like Microsoft shown Fable 2 again, they could've shown Fatal Frame 4 or Disaster, Mad World or whatever core game we KNOW it's coming and even relatively soon.
It's just that they don't aim this things at us anymore.

Good lord some of you people are drama queens.....threatening to sell your system because of ONE conference.

Bunch of crybabies.

Also, whoever that woman is that spoke at Nintendo's conference needs to go. She's so damn annoying.

Yeah, just watched Wii Music, and it looks like a really fun social experience without being too frustrating. Something for parties or just to chill.

Much better than the Sony CGI snorefest, from what I've seen.

no need to beg, there are other options in the next aisle over. and theyre delivering the franchises their fans want to play too.

Can't say I agree.

I really like that Wii ControlPlus thing, and the sword battle looked like a ton of fun. Wish I didn't have to wait till SPRING. :\

Yeah cause letting a game play itself for you is so fun. I'm not a Guitar Hero person but I'd rather play that.

I actually enjoyed the conference. I'm especially happy they didn't show off more than they needed to, it was smart of them not to present their games before they're ready. I prefer them unveiling games closer to their release date than a year or two ahead and then delaying or going silent.

NOOOOOOOOOOOoooooo

WHY WHY WHY THE FUCK NINTENDO YOU DIDN'T FUCKING HIRE SOMEONE WHO ACTUALLY HAD A DAMN GLIMPSE AT KEEPING RITHM!

That was only second to Activion07 as the most embarassing thing EVER, I literally couldn't look at it, you know when you're watchin' David Brent making so much a fool out of himself and you cover you eyes, you hide because the shame is unbearable?!

So YEAH, can't believe it actually happened.
ROTFL, WE HAVE A PRO DRUMMER PERFORMING WITH US

AHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

:-/

(also watching Miya failing to hit a single note on stage was a bit sad too)

1. I think Pikmin 3 will be announced. If Kigari was right about AC AND its title, I don't see why she would be wrong about Pikmin 3. Maybe wrong about it being at or around E3, but I think she's right about it existing.

2. Punch-Out!! was never said to be at E3, only in a magazine, IIRC.

Well, he looked like he was actually playing the drums as a rocker would.

And it looked like he was having fun doing it. It's probably what most people did when they pretended to be a drummer as a kid. Honestly, what's more fun, practicing the drums, or just beating on them with reckless abandon?

Nintendo was my conference of the show (although FFXIII was a huge shocker).

just got here.

so, um about that 'game core gamers are going to want at e3'... where the hell is it.

seems like it was an incredibly weak conference. seriously, what the fuck.
