E3 2008 Nintendo Conference

I just finished watching this. Man what a waste of time. we have to wait an entire year for wii sports 2? wtf! Wii music looks retarded, why would someone want to play air instruments. That was really awful. Wtf are the real 1st party titles? Wii music was first shown two years ago and wii sports 2 should take a small team very little time to make.

Meh.

After E3.

So basically the only game im interested in is Animal crossing which is also damn disappointing since it isn't the rumored MMO that would take advantage of the Wii's wonderful online service.

Fuck you Nintendo.

Well, he looked like he was actually playing the drums as a rocker would.

And it looked like he was having fun doing it. It's probably what most people did when they pretended to be a drummer as a kid. Honestly, what's more fun, practicing the drums, or just beating on them with reckless abandon?

Nintendo was my conference of the show (although FFXIII was a huge shocker).

Going off topic here but if you wanna do that kind of demonstration you got to at LEAST keep the rithm. And you can't even play in the darkest corner of the Tube if you, as a Pro drummer, are THAT FUCKIN BAD.

And no, playing drums with reckless abandon is fun only for who's playing it not for the thousand others which are supposed to enjoy it as well during a conference; and even that stops being fun after 5 minutes (did you ever try it? if yes you know it's true :) and gives room only for headaches..

But anyway, everyone here seem to be forgetting about motionplus: if you are familiar with Wii and you watched closely at the 1:1 arm wristing on the fresbee demonstration you can only be floored. Damn impressive.

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA

So your point is:

WILDLY IMAGININING YOU'RE BEATING ON DRUMS is more fun than playing and practicing with real dreams because... HEY... you may have to LEARN something with the real drums! You may have some learning curve!

Holy fucking shit almighty. I hope your response is worth half a shit 'cause i'm about to start purging GAF.

Even from a pure marketing/economic standpoint, I'm rather shocked that Nintendo is apparently only releasing 2 Wii games during the holiday season. It doesn't seem to make much sense.

So Nintendo Power, whats up with the sword??? What is that from?

Just like last year, E3 is for Nintendo's casual games. We saw a lot of hardcore games announced outside of E3 from E3 07 to E3 08.

We'll see the "sword game" in the next NP, we'll see Punch-Out!! in the next issue of the magazine that mentioned it, and we'll see Pikmin 3 soon.

Nintendo Power doesn't release for another week. All you can do is wait and pray that the reveal wasn't Chrono Trigger

When Wii sports sells 8 million copies this holiday season you'll understand why. I'll be vomiting in a trash can in the meantime.

You need to relax. When I was a kid, I pretended to be a drummer. I didn't actually want to learn to play the drums, I just wanted the experience of playing the drums.

It's okay, you don't have to like WiiMusic if you don't want to.

Wario Land Shake is 10x better than anything they revealed at this conference. I love AC but it looked the same, not sold on it yet.
Not to mention Kirby Super Star Ultra and Rhythm Heaven.

Yes. Wii could very well sell more units during the holiday than any other console in history, but Nintendo doesn't look ready to capitalize. Surprising, they usually like making money.

So are you playing for others, or for yourself? This is about Wii Music, a game that's supposed to be accessible and fun.

Besides, playing Wii Music probably feels a lot different from playing real drums. He's a professional drummer, not a professional Wii musician.

I agree about Wii Motion+. Incredible.

I would also like to applaud the idea of the microphone. Makes online gaming much more social (especially if you can play online with another player, ala Mario Kart Wii). Before this, online gaming seemed so antisocial, if you catch my drift.

The difference is Nintendo is gonna charge you to play air guitar.

I think that with Pikmin and Mario DS, it sounds a little bit like he half-confirmed it, but Galaxy, it sounds like a joke.

Combined with the fact that Pikmin Wii seems to be a popular game for people to say is coming as a matter of fact, and a new Mario DS game, by the time it's released, would be about three years since New SMB came out.

Nintendo isn't going to charge me shit. My defense of WiiMusic doesn't mean I have the slightest intention of buying it.

But if I was 10 in 2008, WiiMusic would be on my birthday/Christmas list.

Matt: Mr. Miyamoto, please bring mother 3 to the states and tell us about its sequel

Miyamoto: as you know, different products appear at differente times in different places on earth, I m sure you will be thrilled with what we will show you in the following weeks, leave it to me. oh and the mother team is right there, hard, hard at work, the poor guys, they work with effort to bring you all the wonderful games you want.
.

The one genuine positive I see is the Motion Plus looks like it delivers. I know Wii Sports 2 might not appeal to much of GAF, but it should have a lot of potential for more core gamers

ps wii music looks terrible

Nintendo doesn't have just 2 games this holiday season.

They have their whole FUCKING library.

He was playing for others (us).
Besides, doesn't matter, the point still stands and you raising question make it even worst 'cause if the problem was the he's a drummer but not familiar with Wii Music would mean that the software is such a worthless piece of shit that can't even recognize the movement without that much of a rithm-breaking delay.
And I don't think that's the case, 'cause nobody would ever give a greenlight to such a shame of a game.
It was embarassing, really.

About Wii Speak while I'm happy something is finally moving, I'm not sure I want other people let know everything happening in my living room in every moment... you know, your wife catches you're still playing games instead of helping with the dinner table [fight ensues] or whatever :lol Though I'm sure (I hope) they've done something for this.

While I like not having to wear those geeky counter-strikey like headset I also realize that I NEVER play online when I have friends over to play with, I just go with local multiplayer.
So yeah, gotta see more of it.

Oh please, yeah sure, Wii Music would interest me if I was 10 and it was packed into my box of Fruit Loops, but for the rest of the world, it's a pretty pathetic excuse for a music game, especially since it's OVER TWO years in the making already.

Especially considering that Rock Band and Guitar Hero offer so much more.

This has to be the lamest press conference i've ever seen, every single announcement that was made did absolutely nothing for me. I'm sick of the mini/party game treatment and Wii Sports 2 is just more of the same, i'm also sick of Animal Crossing games, i've played the Gamecube and DS versions too much and I don't see the Wii version being any different other than it being kinda like an MMO, I still see the same stupid activities growing plants etc, collecting crap....it's not even a game it's like a time waster.

Anyways Nintendo used to make my favourite games and now they make some of the worst because i know what they're capapble of but instead are catering to the lowest common denominator - the casual gamer. I've played video games my whole life (since atari days) and never have I bought a console that was such a waste of time and money. I love games and I play lots of them and I can't see anything on the Wii that I want to even try out let alone spend some decent time playing.

The 1:1 motion control does sound pretty cool but in all honesty this is what the Wiimote should've been from the very begining. The hdd and 1:1 motion control should not even be issues, these should've come with the machine from launch.

Most dissapointing aspect of the whole E3 show imo is no announcement of a Wii Hdd when I can't actually think of anything i'd want more right now (other than Resident Evil 5 and God of War 3).

Don't even compare Wii Music to Rock Band or Guitar Hero or any other music game. Even in a vacuum, it looks stupid.

What I'm saying is that you don't have to compare it to those games. There are indeed certain games that may fall in certain genres that don't attempt to be something. For example, someone might complain that Mario Kart doesn't play like Gran Turismo, yet someone might well see a lot to like in both games even though they are fundamentally different types of racing games.

Wii Music, thus far, doesn't look like it's filling that "Mario Kart" niche. It just looks really fucking dumb.

Yo, not cool. Don't sully the good name of Fruit Loops here. Fruit Loops is an awesome cereal. If the fuel light in my car weren't on, I'd totally go to a 24-hour convenience store and buy some Fruit Loops. Old school style, though. None of this new, weird crap I've been seeing.

Good sugary cereal is infinitely better than most of what we saw in Nintendo's conference. Except maybe Motion+. They're just about tied right now.

Does it suck or do you not want to play it?

It may surprise you, but there is a difference.

OMG i'm watching the part where they are all playing the mario theme on Wii Play. What the hell is going on? I'm scared. The only thing I guess to look forward to is SW:TCW and Animal Crossing. This conference was a huge waste of time.

The Nintendo conference was pretty good overall... My only complaint if one has to complain about the show, was that they did not talk about the storage solution.... It's not a question of if, but when....

I was indifferent to much of it, the sword fighting in Wii Sports Beach Resort is going to kick tons of ass

But when they opted to show Call of Duty, Clone Wars, and Raving Rabbids over Mad World, Samba de Amigo, Fragile, Mushroom Men, Ghostbusters, or Mega Man 9 WiiWare just boggles my mind.

I mean I am buying Clone Wars Day 1 anyway but jesus there was a much better showcase of third party games then the 3 they opted to show

Actually, even though I doubt we'll only be getting two first-party titles during the holiday season (as some suspect based on today's conference), even if that's all we got, Nintendo has plenty of titles that will sell along with those Wiis: Wii Play, Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii PLUS Wii Music and Animal Crossing (not to mention Mario Galaxy, SSBB and Mario Party 8).

You did notice the segment of the conference where Iwata talked about Nintendo's evergreen titles, right? They keep on selling, year after year.

Believe me, I don't want them to sit on awesome first-party titles and release casual-oriented pap for the rest of '08, but they're going to do what they're going to do and I'm going to buy the titles that interest me no matter what.

Is it safe to say that outside of Wario, we won't be seeing a game game from Nintendo until at least next spring?

I don't think so.

Maybe I'm wrong, and I'll admit it if I am, but I don't believe Nintendo would have their Fall and Winter lineups be so barren for both systems. Remember, they didn't announce anything big for DS either. I still think they will announce/blow out at least a couple of more titles for this holiday. I think Fatal Frame has to be there, honestly.

Well yeah Fatal Frame, but that just means until Wii Sports Resort next Spring, all there is is...

-Wario Land Shake
-Kirby SuperStar Ultra
-Fatal Frame
-Animal Crossing
-Wii Music

Probably in that order. Hrm, has Fatal's publisher been announced? I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo decided to pass on publishing it over here.

They'll probably publish it in the States.

There's also that Disaster vaporware thing. It's the only first-party Nintendo game from E306 that hasn't had a hands-on.
