Vinci said:Judging by Iwata's comments, I'd say so. He clearly stated that the Mario and Zelda teams are hard at work on new entries in the franchises for the Wii. Which means, yes, we're getting two core Mario and Zelda franchise games on the same system. By everyone's comments, you'd think he said, "So we've decided to wrap up this whole Mario / Zelda dynamic. The teams that would be working on them are now developing Wii games in which you stare at the screen and, after a while, can see a hidden picture."
Mithos Yggdrasill said:Until I see something concrete, I don't believe it.
Vinci said:So you believe that they're not making another Mario and Zelda ... because they haven't proven it yet by showing something at this particular E3, likey the last E3?
I think you're taking all this a bit too seriously, man. Relax.
goompapa said:No sh1t those teams are doing something, but the fact that nothing is ready to be shown is an indication of when we can expect those games. 2010->.
What's more, working on something is a broad definition. They could be just toying around with ideas that will never find their way to the games.
Remember back in the N64 days. Nintendo were supposedly working on Mario 64-2 ever since the completion of Mario 64. And the result... we get freaking MArio fcking Sunshine in june 2002.
Can't you just understand we are looking for something more concrete ? Not necessarily just Mario/Zelda.
Not to mention they are only developing two of those. We should see more soon.SpokkX said:So to get one thing clear
Nintendo is releaseing 4 (four, yes FOUR) games in the later part of 2008
And these games are
Super Mario Sluggers (Baseboll.. with Mario.... yeah..)
Wario Land: Shake It! (looks good)
Animal Crossing (a carbon copy of a game release for N64/GC/DS)
Wii Music (retarded music game)
Come on, this can´t be all?! This isn´t even a good release schedule for the casual audience
Vinci said:There's nothing more concrete about a game than its development period. People are acting like Mario and Zelda games come automagically out of thin fucking air, and they don't. They think Iwata can snap his fingers and make a trailer for this new, awesome Mario or Zelda write itself onto a DVD to showcase perfectly in time for E3, and it's bullshit. People responded to TP, saying that they wanted something new from the franchise, and Nintendo is trying to do that - but again, that takes time. They aren't Sony, they aren't Microsoft. They're not going to show you a CG of the damn game a year before it'll even conceivably be playable. Maybe they should if that's what it'll take to keep people from losing their shit over something this silly.
In simpler terms:
Sony / Microsoft + Every 3rd Party >> Nintendo
They cannot do this all on their own, and they're not always going to have products to show us that are from a core franchise that we all know and love.
I've said it a million times with some decent inside info, there's no reason it shouldn't be shown yet.koam said:So where's the Retro Studios game? Why haven't we seen this yet/?

goompapa said:That's why I said not necessarily just Zelda and Mario. What about the other teams and their games.
In simpler terms:
Nintendo >> Casual poop + Mario + Zelda. Or atleast it should be.
Vinci said:Let me ask you something: How many people on this site have said they wanted Animal Crossing? How many have said they'd buy a Wii if one were to come out with it? 'Cause I've seen that pretty frequently over the last several months. Now, if this sort of dedication to AC is prevalent on a site like NeoGAF, do you honestly think it isn't widespread elsewhere?
ggnoobIGN said:Not to mention they are only developing two of those. We should see more soon.
.hacked said:I mentioned AC to friends today (all who only own Wiis) and they had no clue what it was.
Online play added to a port 5 year old GC game that was just a port of a 3 year old N64 game.
Vinci said:You mean games like:
ExciteTruck
Mario Strikers
Mario Party
Super Paper Mario
Mario Galaxy
Zelda: Twilight Princess
Zelda: Link's Crossbow Training
Fire Emblem
Smash Bros. Brawl
Metroid Prime 3
Battalion Wars
Wario Ware
Donkey Kong Barrel Blast
Mario Kart
Not to mention some games only released in Japan, and their DS offerings. All in all, that's a helluva lot of game production for two years.
'Casual poop' automatically negates your argument. I didn't realize I was speaking to someone who things 'casual' = 'shit.' But I'll go ahead and comment anyway. There are a couple of different options:
(1) Nintendo literally had very little to show on the core games front, which we know isn't completely true: Fatal Frame, Wario Land, etc. They're not huge, but they're there.
...or...
(2) Nintendo defines what it shows at E3 by a criteria that doesn't match yours. Because it sure as hell isn't that Nintendo is suddenly going to toss away 25+ years of success when they could keep that easily going at the same time.
I'm voting for a mix of the two, with heavy emphasis on the 2nd.

Vinci said:AC is about the content, not the graphics. As long as they've added content, which I'm guessing they have by the City area, then this version of AC has done its job.
goompapa said:Exactly my point. A lot of games on that list have been finished for more than a year. Can't the teams from those games prepare something ?
.hacked said:The game is not a tent pole game, and it is a mistake to believe it is.
Vinci said:It's also a mistake to believe that your circle of friends represents the only people this title could be known by. AC sells a shitload, my friend.
.hacked said:sure it sells well, but it is not Zelda nor Mario so why would a casual gamer want to pick it up when you can get more functionality out of an AIM program.
I am sure grandmas around the world are going to run down to the penny saver and preorder a copy.

Just look how many copies it sold...
Disaster and Fatal Frame on the first-party front. Both might even be released in the US by the end of the year.amtentori said:*snip*

Paradigm shift!schuelma said:Another reason I think there is more coming for this year- Nintendo Japan has been pretty damn good about supporting the Wii with software.
After Fatal Frame IV in 2 weeks, the only (assumed) 1st party Wii games in Japan for the rest of the year will be Animal Crossing and Wii Music. There is no way Nintendo Japan is going to come out with 2 1st party games for the last 5 months of this year. No way.

And what about all the filling in between? Wheres F-Zero, Pikimin, Star Fox, Disaster, WiiWare support, old IP revivals, new IPs, DS games? You cant live on 2-3 year Zeldas and Marios forever.Vinci said:I don't know about that. I was pretty happy when he said the Mario and Zelda teams are working on new installments of those franchises for the Wii.
