E3 2011 Sony Conference Thread [Over]

There is so much fanboy shit in this thread you can almost not see through the flies.
Just the sheer fact that Sony did not try to insult anyone's intelligence with shitty fake choreographed presentations earns them 100 steps above Microsoft.
I did not watch EA's so I can not rate it, Ubisoft I liked up until the dancing and I am always a sucker for Rabbids.
Sony handled everything perfectly.
They addressed the PSN outage twice, the did not spend too much time harping on sales and they got right to the point.
Vita was a complete home run, it is ok you ARE allowed to admit it and you will not lose any cred with whatever side you seem to feel the need to support.
I am also GLAD that they did not announce anything like GOW4 or anything else that is barely in production yet because I am tired of games announced that I will not play for two years.
I even kind of liked Medievil Moves (though would love to see a PS3 or ViTA MediEVil game)
I will take points away because there was no Kevin Butler (almost took another point away for Kobe).
I definitely expect Nintendo to have an awesome presentation tomorrow also.

Sony B
Ubi C
Microsoft D-
Konami C+

I fully expect Nintendo to be at least a B
I agree with your ratings basically except I though ubisoft was really good.
My Ratings:
Sony:B+
Ubisoft:A-
Microsoft:D+
Konami:D
EA:B-

Edit: I'd also like to say that although some of these conferences may be rated high or low, I'm still waiting to hear first hand impressions on games on the show floor. Also there were a lot of Playstation games not on display that are coming out this year. There is still Twisted Metal and Ratchet that didn't even have a presence at the stage show.

This might be wishful thinking but I think the fact that the ICO/SoTC collection got a release date this year is encouraging for where The Last Guardian is in it's development cycle

Why did they use the fake 2005 pre rendered footage for player 1 and killzone 3 for player 2 or is that a subtle photoshop.
It's real but I don't think that's from the CG trailer

Sony's "value" math is funny:

Resistance 3 game: $60
Sony 3D Glasses: $69
6ft HDMI cable: ??
Total: $150 value

In order for their math to work, HDMI cables cost at least $20!

... or I guess you could just get it from Newegg with free shipping for $5.

I was happy with the Sony conference (aside from the nervous presenters towards the beginning). There were a lot of titles that I wished they had included but they either didn't have time for them or they are saving them for the other conferences this year.

$249 PSVita - mine day 1.

Star Trek title - YES! thank you!

Uncharted 3/Resistance 3 looked awesome.

I don't have a 3D TV...the new 3D monitor bundle gives me something to think about (would probably get a second PS3 for that.)

I'm not going to give the conference a "grade" but it was definitely better than Microsoft's.

Many of the Kinect games were laggy and/or not something I'd be interested in (I'm going to stop just short of calling them lame). In some of the demos the action on the screen didn't match the movements of the presenters. The on-rails Star Wars game probably hurt the most. So much potential with that franchise wasted.

<Rant> The Playstation monitor was a flaccid announcement, from my perspective. Value? As I said before, Vizio offers a 32" passive 3D InternetApp-connected HDTV for less, and since it's passive 3D, the glasses could only cost around $20 individually (And I think you can use the RealD passive glasses they hand out at theaters). The only two features that favor the PS Monitor, considering only the announcement, are the split-screen thing, which apparently few TVs offer, and bundling Resistance 3. The former is a potentially useful feature if you play a lot of split-screen titles, but I wonder if feature like that would really make up for the smaller size. Besides, didn't they say that the PSMonitor only includes one set of glasses? If so, add another $70 if you want to use that feature.</Rant>

1080p Passive TV = sub HD 3D. Passive halves the resolution to make the effect. As far as I'm concerned, its a nerfed version of an already cumbersome 3D market. Totally not worth the price even if the glasses are less costly.

Sony's presentation was a solid C. But without the fantastic PSV price tag it was just a boring D+ and on par with MS. The true winners are the 3rd parties.
Now Nintendo is to serve. A little bit cafe and they easily could dominate this E3.

a C and is on par and didnt do better than microsoft??! ok dude.

anyways...

There are just way too many games to even choose from and now it seems Move is apart of every damn game being developed. Which is great! what I love about sonys showing of move and vita is they arent forcing anyone to do anything. Dont want move? Dont use it but use your dualshock. Dont like touch controls on vita? Dont use them.

The price point of vita alone I'll give Sony a solid A. I don't think anyone(or very few) expected Sony of all people to come in with a really really cheap price for that kinda hardware. They have learned from their mistakes which is good to see.

It comes with two glasses.

Dust 514 needs more hype. More promising than any other shooter shown at E3.

Promising in what way? Gameplay wise it's kinda... :/ Link-wise is interesting, but I don't play EVE online, so why the fuck would I care about that?

Can you guys please explaning to me, an Aussie, what and where the dislike and complete dismissal of AT&T comes from?

I've seen that kind of response to AT&T announcements before, so it's not new to me, but I've just not got it. If it were announced that Verizon or company ZZAX were the partners instead, would the response have been different?

Also, a big C to the MS conference, was disappointed to have woken up at 0200 to watch it. Sony, hmm, probably a C+, with repeat viewings of the UC3 trailer, the amazing tech in the PSTV which I look to reading about over at AVS forums later on and the VITA price getting it over the line (which poster was it that had the 'Pause for Clap. No Clap' on their bingo card? Sony delivered).

Both left me feeling a little disconnected from gaming though.

Nobody's conference failed. All of them had issues and exciting new titles. Anyone suggesting otherwise is simply showing their bias.

I don't know if you noticed, but mostly people are exaggerating, having fun, and being hyperbolic when they say that anything 'failed'. Of course they didn't fail and weren't totally disasters, but so far they sucked.

I have owned and enjoyed all 3 systems and both PSP and DS for many years. Yet I could very logically and correctly argue why I think that both major conferences so far have sucked.

My grades (opinions) of the conferences:

MS conference
------------------
Games: C-
Presentation: D-

UBI Soft conference
------------------------
Presentation: D (mainly due to Mr. Coke)
Games:B-

Sony conference
------------------------
PS3 games: C+
Vita games: B+
Vita Price: A
Presentation: C-

Unless Nintendo comes through big time, their conference will likely be just as good as Sony's.

Thats still not a bad estimate with places like best buy still trying to sell 70 dollar cables.

Honestly, I think overall one has to be disappointed. Not a very well planned conference. Sony needed to rebound after the PSN breach and like they said restore confidence that PS3 and PSN is the best place to play games... take out Vita and they DID NOT do that.

PSN
-PSNs partnerships with media companies are VERY weak. That end of the console is falling very flat. Regardless of how little you think this matters on the 360, it is huge for the majority of people.
-No actual improvements. Browser, functionality, etc.
-Barely talked about PSN on PSV

PS3
-"exclusive" tie ins were very weak. Just rehashed content thrown in. Really I get the Boogati Veyron, wow...? How about actual exclusive content in BF3?
-Yes the games shown were very cool. But E3 is not the place to reveal a game like Sly that does create buzz. Also Subway promotion... GTFO.
-Where was Agent? This could have stolen the show. Even if it was just a CG trailer for 2013.
-Last Guardian, probably saved for TGS... still...
-Dust514... I will give it a chance but it just felt lost.
-R3 was a crappy demo for what will probably be a great game
-inFamous 2... seen it.
-Nothing to make news about... nothing to write about... just meh.

Move
-Not even worth talking about it was so bad.
-Sony needs to lock its most creative people in a room and force them to come up with something cool.

PSV
-Price and games are the single saving thing of this conference. It shows that Sony can learn. Which bodes well for the future.
-Looks like an actually good piece of HW.
-However, PSN integration was not clear.
-3rd party support was not clear. COD... could have sold this thing.
-1st support as usual from Sony looked great.

It just did not come together. It was not a shit show... but it could have easily been.
My points exactly.

The PSN needs some major improvements and we got none. They announced this cinema now bullshit like we really need another movie service on the PS3. As a PS3 owner this bothers me. Sony REALLY sucks at software. They need to hire some expert software programmers for the PS3 that can make the PSN better and feel more connected. Cause sony can't design shit.

Nobody can defend either MS or sony's conference. Both were shit with nothing new to get excited about beyond the games we already know is coming. I guess theres nothing new left to show? If this were last gen Both would of announced their new consoles by now.

Nintendo is no doubt goona be the winner of this shitty e3 so far. New console and im sure their gonna have new HD titles like mario and zelda.

If rockstar shows GTAV tommorow........................................................

Dunno about everybody else, but for us they went to shit when the iPhone was introduced because they couldn't handle the new load. There are still lots of places where you lose 3G service.

wow sony just killed microsoft this year (again)...at this point xbox is just a gow3 box for me (and a few arcade games)...

If sales keep as they are, Microsoft will take Sony "killing" them at every E3. They are sipping on that sweet blue ocean champagne now.

Meh. As someone who doesn't care about handhelds, this was really underwhelming. Literally nothing new of interest on the PS3.

Still, $250 NGP seems like a really aggressive price, I'll give them that. And they didn't do any worse than MS.

Neither of them announced anything of relevance for their consoles. Closest thing to excitement was Halo 4...then they said Holiday 2012 (which is kinda sad, MS is usually the one company that doesn't announce things too far in advance).

the only thing megaton is the bias in this thread. B for sony seriously? did we watch the same conference. when it just ended with kaz hirai i was expecting something big to close the show and it just ended.

The interaction will go both ways. The economy of Dust 514 is likely controlled by EVE. Also, there will undoubtedly be some very interesting politics at play in both games due to the interaction.

the Vita news (and Ken Levine) made the show awesome... but it ended really flat.

No Journey?
No Last Guardian (yeah yeah, TGS... :/)
No Square-Enix?

Really surprising, actually.
Sony's stocked up for the next 12 months... but why not throw us some kind of unannounced 2012 bone?

Crimson Skies.

I cry.

It's a damn shame. MS is sitting on all the following high-quality, non-FPS games that could be refreshed into new IPs:

-Crimson Skies
-Mech Assault
-Conker
-Kameo
-Killer Instinct

Instead, we get the same ol' same ol'.

Dont forget all the heavy Sega support Xbox 1 had. Panza Dragon, Jet Set Radio. Crazy Taxi 3. How about when they developed and put good work into Top Spin? Rallisport Challenge?

And even though the product came out like crap, they at least TRIED unique stuff with Kabuki Warriors and the Azuri game. Again, gameplay was crap because they were rookies, but there was innovation.

And yes, Kameo and Viva Pinata.

But now it's FPS with apocalyptic settings and marines. Over and over again.

Even the sports genre has been whittled down. Remember when Sony and MS competed against EA and 2k sports? Remember games like Blitz and Hitz and Street, taking unique twists on those sports?

Now it's pretty much one game per sport every year.

And Sony had so many platformers. Sly, Jak, Spyro, amongst others. And instead of a new Ico game, we get a re-release. woohoo.

And 1 RPG in the entire game. I dont even like RPGs, but one, for the entire genre? WTF?

10 million Kinects shipped is Blue Ocean champagne?

Yeah, I thought Ken Levine showing up was suppose to be this year's "surprise show up" since he, like Gabe Newell, down played some aspect of Playstation only to do a 180 and show lots of support.
