E3 2011 Sony Conference Thread [Over]

I give the conference an A. I bought a 3DTV for Uncharted 3. What I saw today reassured my purchase. I also see a lot of hate on 3D. I use to do it too.......until I got a 3DTV. It s the most awesome thing I have experienced in a video game! It actually adds a whole new experience to video games. Resistance looked awesome. I actually kinda like the series. A new exclusive Star Trek game that doesn't look too bad. And not to mention I'm going to be buying my first handheld, 250 bucks feels good, I kinda feel bad like I should give them more. Simply put, Vita looks awesome. Great stuff all around. A for Sony!

I don't really mind Sony didn't show The Last Guardian.

We all know it's going to be amazing, and I think it's better not to see too much of it before playing it.

Sony had a pretty solid B+ going for me until they wasted 5 minutes of the conference talking about Infamous 2.. seriously wtf?

We have to remember that this is free ad space for Sony for inFamous 2. They wanted to remind those who may have not known or forgotten that a Sony AAA exclusive was being released Tuesday. It may not have been the best move of gaming enthusiasts but it was a smart business move, especially since the first inFamous game is now free via the Welcome Back psn package.

I'll rate the Sony conference as a C+ leaning to a B-

For reference I rate Microsoft as an F, EA as a D+ and Ubisoft as a C.

Come on Nintendo, bring the A+ conference I know you can.

A NEW MEDIEVIL GAME!

No we don't, It's the team first PS3 game, maybe it has some serious technical problems, maybe Ueda lost it, maybe it's just crazy pet simulation...ect,we need to see a stage demo/long in-game footage of it.

I'd think that UBI would have a lower score just because of "Mr. Caffeine". I don't know what the hell UBI was thinking when they decided that he should be the host.

Starhawk is the only Sony exclusive shown today which doesn't use the Move controller. Funny because its prequel was a Sixaxis showoff (though everybody flew with the controller since it was better, so it makes sense they got rid of motion controls).

i wouldn't give them an A for what was a fairly safe and by the numbers conference, but i'm loving the 3D focus as a 3DTV owner.

to get an A from me you need a big surprise, and no boring bits. a comfortable B. microsoft i'd give maybe a C-. again no real surprises... they didn't mention 3D. they didn't mention windows phone gaming (seriously... they need to push what is a brilliant platform). they didn't focus on XBLA which has some amazing titles coming and do we really need to give sports titles any time at these things?

it's totally Nintendo's year to take. only a face plant would prevent that, but i'm not ruling that out.

Uncharted 3 doesn't have Move support.

If the rumors are true about them attempting to target "core gamers" against, then i'd say that they've got this easily.

it wasn't boring.

maybe it's because the higher ups have english as a second language? so far the surprise of the show for me, is how awesome Rayman looks. Ubisoft I was expecting to sleep through, and they had a solid showing... presentation elements aside.

That woman on GTTV said he was hilaaarious... Most annoying host ever.

Speaking of Starhawk, I wish they saved it for e3. Would have made for a more entertaining conference.

But yeah whatever, companies love to spread out their announcements.

Better then paying Joel McCale to read a teleprompter poorly with no comedic timing, making jokes he doesn't understand while undermining the very people who care enough to watch...

By your junior member status, I guess you're new here. It's the same story every single year here, where there's always been a far more overly-excitable fanbase for Sony than MS: Sony's conference was the best! MS' was the worst! The tides are turning! MS will exit the video game business while Sony will rise to heaven! Every. Year.

Like you don't sound like a fanboy yourself.

I thought it was a descent conference but most of it was kind of boring. As much as I love the look of Infamous 2, Uncharted 3, Starhawk, etc... I had already known about and seen all that stuff, the overly goofy Sly 4 prerendered trailer didn't do much for me and I thought the new Medieval Move game looked a little too simplistic. The announcement for ICO/SotC and the remastered PSP God of War games for PS3 was really cool but not much was said about them and nothing was shown. I've always been intrigued by EVE online but never played it, the Dust514 demo seemed kind of cool in concept but the shooting looked rather "same-old". Resistance 3 was demo'd very poorly IMO, I really can't put my finger on the quality, the guy playing was terribad. I didn't even watch the sports crap.

Now, PSVita seemed pretty awesome, really liking the look of Uncharted but really am not too interested in ModNation or Little Big Planet stuff (I think both original games were fantastic on their own right but I doubt I'd purchase any of these new portable sequels). Unfortunately I got kind of sidetracked when they showed that action RPG but I might be interested in that, looked pretty cool when I caught glimpses. The price was surprisingly low and the highlight of the conference - I also liked the different ways it can "connect" to the PS3. I think I'll end up buying a PSVita, I bought a PSP on release day and even though I don't play it anymore I feel I got a lot of enjoyment out of it... in the back of my mind I'm always thinking I'll pull it out and bring it on the subway with me but the firmware is so far behind and hacked and I have no new games.

What the conference did do is make me want to buy a 3D screen, I'm really really interested in that monitor and, while I think the price is great it's unfortunately still a little rich for my blood at this point in my life. Especially since I don't have a Move controller yet either and PSVita is on the horizon.

If I was to rate it I'd give the conference a B- or a super high C+. Microsoft's I would give a straight up D at best... just because of the redesigned dashboard and Halo 4 (and I don't even like Halo)

Missed the pc, but from the news I'm reading I'm pretty underwhelmed (not really interested in handhelds). Needed some more first party PS3 games announcements.
Regarding exclusives, Dust / it's integration with EVE is interesting, but in the end it will probably just be another online multiplayer(-only?/focused) military shooter, feels like the PS3 has already a ton of those. Still no Agent footage...

I guess it's ok because they flood the market this year with PS3 exclusives every month or so, so announcing 2012+ games should be handled wisely. Also, Sony will probably announce more stuff during GC and TGS. Still hoping for a new Siren game.

Oh and I'm quite disappointed about no new PSN/firware announcements, I know they had a lot of work thanks to hackers, but it still feels like we had no new features for a while now.

Damn.
I sold my FAT PS3 40GB two days ago because i was planning to replace it with a new Slim, but i wanted a price cut. .-.

However good conference, i hoped for some big news...

Famous last words I think haha.

Personally, they will have to do alot to impress me more than the Vita...like show an HD zelda

i do not know. with such lackluster showings from MS and SONY i really think if Nintendo just gives us a look at Cafe for 2 minutes they will have single handedly stolen the show.

Overall thoughts

Similar to MS', nothing was terribly wrong nor great. Most of it just confirms leaks or already shows off obvious choices. I think the biggest surprise for me was Ruin(Vita) and Vanillaware New Vita title. Sly 4 getting confirmed for another entry was pleasant news too.

On the demos. Uncharted looked like Uncharted, Resistance like Resistance. They look good and I'll most likely be renting the lot of them.

NGP confirmed to be Vita and confirmed to be 249. Great starting price and would have been a day 1 purchase if it had BC. As of right now, I'm excited for it more than the 3DS, but not particularly keen on the software line up either yet. Few nods mentioned above. But both still have a long ways to go.

Move and games included: I just don't care. Nothing shown for it looked worth while to purchase it for. It never looks fun. The tech still looks sounds and maybe something like House of the Dead Overkill or NMH:Paradise will get me on it.

One particular sour note, Dust. I'm still getting mixed info if it is console exclusive or exclusive.

Only thing that was interesting was Vita. Sadly I doubt there is a market for it... they got the price right at least IMHO. Sony has a fighting chance.

Move was a bit of a disaster...

But it does have BC right? You can play upscaled PSP games on it (not on UMD of course).

We giving grades?

The definitive Sony Conference Review

- They didn't give Journey any exposure, it had a short 2 sec clip in the sizzler............ It would definitely be on my top 5 anticipated PS3 games, they were docked an automatic point for not showing more of this game off.

- Resistance 3 looks to be more of the same, im indifferent about it right now.

- They LBP and MNR on Vita, basically the same thing we just got on the PSP, now we are getting another? No thanks.

- They brought rapist and homophobe KoBe on stage, another full letter grade docked from their score total.

- Uncharted looks great but that is to be expected.

- Negative points for having only one real surprise, that being the vita price.

- The Medieval Move game looks not very good.

- Conference dragged on, the sizzler trailer was terrible because it skipped from one game to the next every 2 seconds so that was no use.

- Way too many trailers of stuff we already know about.

- No Last Guardian...........

- If I didn't mention something, it wasn't noteworthy.

Highlights of the Conference
- Uncharted 3
- Vita price announcement

Lowlights of the Conference
- Medieval Move
- Kobe

I agree about the Kobe thing, but what was wrong with their apology? I thought it came off very sincere and humble.
