E3 2016s "Cringe" Moments

That threat is the kind of shit I was talking about the other day. My wife basically had to deal with it daily at Activision when we both worked there years ago before we got married. It was either commenting on her chest size, or asking her if she knew what the buttons on the controller did. They were incredibly lucky that we weren't working on the same projects, because I'd have probably lost my shit and my job had I heard them talking to her like that. Once she left the industry, she vowed to never work in gaming again. Sad and infuriating. Have some fucking class. I get it, it's one thing to think inappropriate thoughts, a lot of us do, but it's completely another to make a human bein feel like meat just for existing. Shameful.

Anyway, I can't personally think of any cringe stuff for this year's E3, but I didn't follow all of the press conferences, and I'm still catching up on all of the gameplay demos and interviews.

Like I said in another thread, "gamers" are the worst. Some people need to stop playing and learn some social skills. Stories like this are disgusting and infuriating.

Sea of Thieves chat

I think I've finally figured out why nobody here talks during online games. Just the sound of someone else's voice talking over a video game makes them cringe so hard, they're liable to fall into brutal seizures. It's a safety concern! It all makes sense now.

I feel like I could upload a video of my friends and I just gaming online and dicking around, without context, and people would laugh at us for our 'scripted cringe worthy dialogue', because 'nobody actually talks like that'

We saw a 3 minute reel of people that played the game for 2 days

Cynical gaf never ceise to amaze me, wondering how cool you people sound when playing with randoms online and having fun

I have fun playing games.....but me and my buds all cringed during sea of thieves whether the reactions were real or not. Ghost recon was also full on cringe mode for me.

But.....I cringe to living hell when listening back to my jumping puzzle runs in Destiny with new players because I find it flat out fucking hilarious and entertaining seeing people run a raid for the first time. DGAF is full cringe......and it's awesome cringe.

maybe because people tend not to look or sound super cool when they're getting really into a video game? now that's an experience that's not exclusive to VR

I edited my.post......I had left some stuff out lol

Ghost recon was pre recorded though much like the division.......it was insanely obvious

is there video of this

Sea of Thieves was actual chat while they were playing the game for the first time. How the hell was that cringey? We live in a post-Kinect world with Ubi fake chat every year, yet this is suggested as cringey.

Yeah, this was up there, unfortunately.

wow those post about the woman interviewer from the nintendo stream, wtf. Glad those people won't be part of the community anymore. Like they've never interacted with or seen a woman

I'd never subject gamers to the sound of my teenage voice (I'm 36 😭), so I don't use my headset. I've ised the voice modulator before, but mainly I just don't like taking anyway. I'm pretty sure my nephew has a deeper voice than me...

Oh c'mon, I'm not even into big breasts, but a girl with double-D wearing a tight T-shirt...nature/god creates some things with a purpose, you know.
I've seen so many hereosexual women in my life having their eyes glued to other women's assets...but I'm not in the mood to discuss this stuff on Gaf anymore.
Huh

The E3 celeb interviews was the most hilarious thing I've seen this year, it was perfect.

For more traditional cringe, the Ubi ghost recon fake chatter is the only big offender to me.

In "yikes" cringe, the FFXV demo at MS looked awful. Really surprised to see the lack of the VR FFXV mentions too, that also looked poor and had to toss in that mechanic character to oogle in the video on top of it.

I didn't mention it because I forgot all about it, but boy, those are my picks. Especially the VR FFXV, like, seriously, what the fuck was that? Dude playing looked like he was trying to aim his crosshairs with a fucking Etch-A-Sketch

Oh shit, forgot about that. SE is off doing their own thing on another planet sometimes.

God these fanboy posts are even more cringeworthy.

You don't think it was even a LITTLE awkward they they ended on days gone because they clearly cut their show short after removing what was most likely a lengthy Neo segment?

Sony has had 2 hour plus shows for a long time now. They suddenly dropped to an hour this year?

A show like the one Sony put on is not something you'll just yank an entire segment out of last minute. It would be a complete shit show to reprogram everything, redo the orchestra stuff, and so on. Nothing is pulled last minute, this is just gibberish. These things are often set far in advance and something like the Sony show would take a good amount of rehearsing with how tight and staged everything was.

I'd say a bummer for me personally was that a large portion of GAF seemed to run from one controversy to another without actually reading carefully the comments made or thinking through what might of happened that resulted in a game showing the way it did.

Why is she talking so much? Wont she ever shut up? Will she talk like this the entire game?

Why is this game so easy and that guy not die in *insert part*?

Why didn't he run out of ammo?

Why isn't this alpha demo as polished as a game that's about to release?

For an enthusiast gaming forum some of these questions come off as so bonehead.

1. the Crash in Skylanders announcement (because everybody thought it was going to be a new game)

2. the Final Fantasy 15 VR segment. (because it looked about as deep as the Jurassic Park arcade shooter from 1994)

I'd say the funniest thing was Foxx hiding that blunt and nodding to Zac. Jesus christ EA.

The cringest thing was Ubi. Pretend gamer banter makes my asshole pucker. Ghost Recon was some of the worst I've ever seen.

as someone who communicates in online games every night or every other night, it's always interesting to hear what people who haven't used their mics since Modern Warfare 2 think online chatter sounds like in 2016

sea of thieves wasn't scripted, just cut

And that's why I don't talk to anyone EVER while playing online. Sure it has shut me off from games like Destiny and BF4 in which you need constant communication or whatever, but I just don't want to talk to anyone. Cringed pretty hard at that stuff.

I felt bad for Phil Spencer having a slip in the opening line of the show. When referring to the Orlando tragedy he said "tradegy" ughhh.

Also the Jaime Foxx thing was very uncomfortable to watch.

To put on display just how far he's fallen, I dunno.

Yeah, I too miss the days before all his weird ideas started to become an albatross around Id Tech's neck and his statements started to turn into insane rambling.

Guy was making claims around 2008 that Id Tech 6 would use real-time ray-tracing and render entirely in voxels. Yeah, sorry Carmack, that was some Euclideon tier bull that simply won't be possible for another few decades.

Given a few more years at Id and a few more disastrous versions of Id Tech under his belt, he'd probably officially be the Molyneux of game engine design.

Someone salty at Carmack? Now I've seen everything. Don't think you've really been paying attention to what he's been doing, his work in VR, particularly the godly performance "hack" known as asynchronous timewarp, plus his work in the mobile VR space should not be discounted. Guy is def being utilized a lot better at Oculus, keep in mind Id were the ones that wanted to keep him clipped.

I thought the Sony host was awkward as hell and hard to watch. EA was as awkward as hell as a whole.

Shawn Layden? While rehearsed, there was a certain level of spontaneity in his reaction that I appreciated. But I did feel somewhat uncomfortable when he kept gesturing to the orchestra. Once is classy, but to keep thanking them was kinda weird.

I was going to say there's something wrong with anyone who actually cringes in real life and then I remembered the Sea of Pirates commentary.

Kill-me-Stewie-GIF.gif

the Aisha Ubisoft presenter who is still not funny, despite her thinking to the contrary

FF15 demo during the MS conference where they just got their ass kicked

Incredibly awkward Minecraft dude who was uncomfortable reading from his 'banter' script

You can't possibly believe this. This is bar none, one of the stupidest comments I've read on GAF, and I've read (and posted) some doozies. Jesus christ.
