E3 2016s "Cringe" Moments

God these fanboy posts are even more cringeworthy.

You don't think it was even a LITTLE awkward they they ended on days gone because they clearly cut their show short after removing what was most likely a lengthy Neo segment?

Sony has had 2 hour plus shows for a long time now. They suddenly dropped to an hour this year?

I'd also heard a few people mention that the end of the show could have been a Rockstar/Red Dead reveal finale that was removed due to the tragedy in Orlando, but I think Adam Boyes denied it. I have to admit, whatever was the actual reasoning, ending the show on Days Gone seemed a really odd choice.

Probably unpopular opinion, but I find that almost every time there's an interview happening at the same time as someone is playing the game live there will almost always be something awkward and cringey said. It often happens when the interviewer is trying to be reactionary to what the developer is saying or doing. One example off the top of my head is during the Pokemon demo the dude playing threw a Pokeball at some level 3 ledyba that was in red health, the lady interjected with something like ”ooooooohhhhh, this is always the most stressful part, hnnnnnggggggggghhhhhhhhhh wooo! You caught it!” and then basically repeated it a few seconds later in the same scenario with a different Pokemon. She certainly wasn’t the only one and I don’t want to imply that these people aren’t enthusiastic about the game they’re interviewing for, but everytime it happens I get the impression of a bored tired person trying to maintain face for PR’s sake or someone who really loves the product to a point where their composure is impacted.

I thought MS's conference had some real butt-clenchers:

  • Sea of thieves gameplay - those actors that were all trying to channel their inner pewdie to conveigh fun. Soulsnatching stuff.
  • The minecraft section - Sexperson looked absolutely mortified, Carmac looked like he was fucking high and NOTHING in that whole section looked riveting. Why the fuck is minecraft still shown a conference man, c'mon.
  • Uncompressed pixels. The highest quality pixels. We have nothing remotely interesting to say about this concept but we got paid to do it anyway so pixels. We got em. The best pixels.
  • "XBAWKS AND PC EXCLUSIVE" - after every game got so much eye-roll out of me i'm pretty sure i unhinged my retina's."

I'm sure Ubisoft and EA had even more forced moments to fool us into thinking that there is a heart and soul in those empty animated suits, but i can only stomach so much corporate drivel.

What part of 'it won't be at e3' do you not understand?

This is gonna sound jaded, but the interview with Suda51 over Let It Die footage was pretty cringey.

The interviewers were just straight-up dorks. Suda was trying to be funny/appeal to Americans. Yamaoka got infected by all the stupid in the air. Meanwhile the translator was trying to hold it together and make everyone sound intelligent.

On top of that, the game looked like something you'd see on PS2, in terms of both aesthetics (not necessarily graphics) and gameplay. Just all really out-dated and not "retro" in a good way.

The mindcraft and sea of thieves fake chatting and Sony walking out on the crash bandicoot stage/ the crash shadow people started to get excited then everything falling flat when the said it was remakes and skylanders.

Can we keep it to actually embarrassing and cringeworthy moments? Thread has turned into "thing you don't like = cringe".

Microsoft conference "live" demo of FF15M what a fucking mess lmao.

Commentary for Ghost Recon Wildlands, didn't they learn anything from last year's Division?

True, like during the Zelda stream when the guy's sword broke, and the guy was like "Oh, man, my sword broke, but I got a spear", then the translator erroneously said "Your spear broke!" and there was just awkward silence for like four seconds

People just try to fill the space with hot air, it's never smooth

Man, I loved that lady losing her shit every time something about ESO was mentioned but it's pretty bad when the person on stage has to alter their speech to allow you time to lose your mind every few sentences lol

Thought the Fractured But Whole presentation was pretty hilarious. Looked to me like they were just messing around, trying to see how many offensive jokes they could slip in.

Cringiest moment for me was Snoop playing Battlefield 1.

Man isn't even trying.

If by 'cringiest' you mean best!

Real cringing happened whenever and wherever Final Fantasy XV appeared.

Edit: that gif gets even better when you see him reload as he runs towards the wall instead of jumping.

The Minecraft thing was pretty bad. All of it. So was the voice chat over Sea of Theives. Not as bad as some I've heard, but they could have done that without the talking.

I've never been this happy that I missed a Thread.

In other news: Today I learned that coon is supposed to be an insult against me. I never recognized it as insult tbh.

I don't know where you're from, but I think this may have wider usage in the UK than elsewhere. To be honest when watching the South Park section of Ubi's conference, I thought to myself: "They're calling him what?!

I don't get it, I saw the Sea of Thieves thing and thought they all seemed genuinely excited to be playing it. I didn't find it cringeworthy at all.

So they ended on a game which clearly wasn't the biggest or best of the show (I would have probably opened on Horizon and ended with the God of War reveal, personally), and their show was shorter than usual because they're trying a new format, and I'm supposed to find that "awkward". I don't really follow the logic.

Ayesha Taylor's "witty jokes" and EA talking to celebs and those celebs acting like they care about battlefield 1. Those were the hardest things to watch.

For me definitely the Final Fantasy XV coverage spread across all three days. They basically dumped everything new they had. Quality control...what is that? I'm tired of shitty demos, trailers and screenshots that make me worry.

Did you listen to it? Do you actually think anyone's group of friends will talk like that while playing the game?
Yeah, if you were to cut a 2 minute trailer from us playing together for a bunch of hours, you can easily get me and my group of friends to sound like that.

FFXV reveal during the Sony presser.
FFXV gameplay during the Microsoft presser

The Microsoft demo was just horribly boring... a guy slashing at an enormous hand for 5 minutes.

The Sony video was just embarrassing and tone deaf as it started by just showing some girl with big boobs wearing a bathing suit flirting with the "player," showed a 30 second terrible gameplay demo, and then ended with some huge announcement that you got to play as some guy riding around with scantily glad girl with big boobs... It's just like... how tone deaf is Square Enix?

Bad gameplay is one thing ... but just cringe awkwardness (BOOBS!!!!!! DURING A PRESSER!!!) is just embarrassing.

Did you listen to it? Do you actually think anyone's group of friends will talk like that while playing the game?

It resembled a Let's Play session. Normal people don't talk like that when they're playing a game, but if they're being recorded for entertainment purposes, they do. Watch any GTA Online Let's Play and it's basically that for an hour... And the videos somehow have a million+ views.

may wanna re think that part

Half of that wasn't that cringey. I kind of liked the Ubisoft dudes. What I thought was the funniest moment of E3 was that one part where the FIFA guy gave this dramatic re-enactment of his childhood dream of playing some "footy" with Beckham. He was so melodramatic and I loved it.

The adults running down the show floor to play new Zelda game

Reminds me of the the people crying at twilight princess reveal

So embarrassing

The Ghost Recon demo. My God.

This, by a mile. Fake team chat and I'm sure one of them even whispered "let's go" to his friends when they were close to enemies. So fake, it was hard to concentrate on the game.

I think the Sea of Thieves stuff was ok, a bit shouty at times but more sincere
