EA Cancels Black Panther Game, Closes Cliffhanger Studios

Stop hiring retards, retards.

Wonder what the reason was, what if EA decided to pull the plug because Disney properties no longer draw audiences?

You think she changed when she got the Black Panther gig?

I'd say its very relevant.

She hadn't changed AT ALL. She was a speaker at GDC two months ago, this was the announcement of her talk there. Same obsession with gender and race.

Shes the narative lead ?
When did that happen??? Only thing I could find is that she was an associate narrative designer.

Doesn't associate typically mean she's a junior narrative designer???

Probably because it was turning out to be a woke propaganda piece and thankfully we seem to be getting past that nonsense now.

isn't this supposed to still release this year?

Ok maybe not lead, I made that bit up. Thank god.

Does it matter? If she was white and made statements like that about blacks then she would never work in the industry again.

As a AAA game that costs 150 million to develop, with a 45 dollar average price per unit sold, you need to sell nearly 5 million units JUST to break even after you account for 20-30% Steam/PSN/Xbox/Nintendo royalties and 5% cut to Epic Games for use of Unreal Engine.

This might not even cover marketing and it doesn't involve the licensing of an IP...

A game like this, realistically would probably have to sell 10 million copies to succeed. That's a tall order in today's climate. We're nearing the point where finished games might get canceled, simply because they're not worth marketing campaigns...

For every 10 million dollars spent in marketing, 325k copies have to sell to pay for the marketing.

The same game using a marvel license probably needs at least 6 million units sold to break even and that's being conservative based on the low end royalties we saw in the insomniac leak. The break even point could be as high as 7 million copies.

This is also assuming a potentially low AAA budget of 150 million.

Wow, a whole three years of experience on games that dozens of people heard of/played? Good fucking riddance you racist piece of shit.

Ironically these racist usually come from upper middle class households, who take advantage of hiring practices that are meant to help people of color who are disadvantaged because they are poor.

"Over three years of experience"

Imagine going to GDC and get lectured by an absolute noob whose only concern is skin color and gayness.

Cliffhanger games are comprised of ex-Monolith devs, so that basically ends the entire lineage of that studio.

Looks like I'm going back to ignoring EA. I think they literally only want to produce deeply uninteresting things to me.

This one is still happening but got delayed.

Black panther never got off the initial teaser video stage iirc.

I didn't have any particular interest in this game (nor Marvel in general), but it's becoming very clear the industry at large is cutting costs for anything they don't think will be a huge hit, and doubling down on their core franchises. They are not optimistic about sales in the foreseeable future. That sucks for gaming in general, but a silver lining could be more attention available for the smaller AA and indie games that would normally get overlooked.

I wonder how this trend will affect next console generation, will we see fewer games of higher quality, or just fewer games? How many will be cross-gen?

Of course. These race grifters don't become racists on the street but on the most expensive universities.

Ah fuck. Was that the one that looked so great?

Edit: I thought of the other game.

Probably for the best. You can always cancel a bad game before it ruins you.

Tell Trump I am not tired of winning yet.
