EA Cancels Next-Gen Game Bond

Fuzzy

I would bang a hot farmer!
Saw this on Digg.
As MI6 exclusively revealed last week, the next James Bond videogame from EA will be "Casino Royale".

The game was originally aimed at the recently released Xbox 360 and forthcoming PlayStation 3 platforms.

Sources now suggest plans for next-gen console releases have been cancelled.

Versions for current generation consoles (PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube) will be developed as normal, as with "Everything or Nothing" and "From Russia With Love".

Pre-production work on the game started a few months ago, with concept artwork and some 3D models already complete, even before the latest game From Russia With Love hit the shelves.

EA milking at it's finest. They milk a license so bad that people get sick of it and when they're contract is up, they dump it when it's useless for other companies.

If only this would happen with the Madden franchise.

Cuz we all know that Madden sells and plays like shit. Get the fuck out of here.

Haven't played Madden since like 97 or something being from the UK and all, but, if Fifa (and there other sports games) is anything to go by then yeah you're spot on with that one. lol

(that's if I'm understanding you ^^;)

So EA admits they suck at next gen, haha

EA doesn't suck at next gen. Their next gen titles are deep! And complex!

EA spokesperson Tammy Schachter said:
We believe that premium titles command premium pricing. These are deep, rich, complex games."

See!

Everything or Nothing rocked

Goldeneye rocked more :-P

EA should give Free Radical a chance to develop a James Bond game.

I'd love to see what those guys can do with the license.

So is this because the previous Bonds tanked (did they?) and Godfather slipped by a year?

I think it has to do with the LA studio. I think I've posted this before, but the first hires are pretty much still there, but everyone after that has been axed, as well as those responsible for hiring. Let's just say this, the typical EA hiring practices were not applied for the LA studio for some reason.

After the issues that Rogue Agent had with the release and accelerated schedule to cover for some games falling out of the release schedule. Oh, and that EA housewife blog and class-action lawsuit did affect some of those schedules. EA's obviously running into some adjustment periods for their Games division, these moves don't really affect the sports games and studios like Tiburon.

As for Godfather, its delay has pushed many games into overdrive. I know of a few games rushed forward to cover Q1 2006 since Godfather is not there. There is also some restructuring that has taken place with a lot of the big franchises. So now, teams have new leads, so there is obviously an adjustment period.

Overall, a good (if you want to spin it) time take place as the market adjusts/waits for next-gen to grow.

So let me get this straight....

Because From Russia with Love tanked and got mediocre reviews for current generation consoles, they decided not to make next-generation versions of their new bomb game...i mean Bond game.....which they know will tank again and get the same mediocre " they arne't even trying" reviews. Good to know EA is on the job! They can keep as much **** as possible off the next-gen libraries.

Interesting. Do you know anything about Black Box? Were they assimilated into EA Canada, or are they just being quiet right now?

Everything or Nothing Rocked (best bond game since Goldeneye and my favorite of em all :) )

From Russia with Love is good, sometimes great but waaaay to watered down

Any move that keeps cheapo current rev ports from next-gen machines is good in my book. I sure as hell don't want to be buying poor looking XBox 360 games a YEAR after the system's been out.

No.

Free Radical and EA. I sure as hell wouldn't want a Bond game by FR to be limited by the Revolution hardware...

I'm sure looking forward to 5 more years of statements like these.

On other news..
EA says to be "well below" profit targets
Tuesday December 20, 5:02 pm ET

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Top video game maker Electronic Arts (NasdaqNM:ERTS - News) said on Tuesday it expects quarterly profit and revenue to be "well below" its earlier estimates because of lackluster holiday sales.

"Holiday sales are not meeting expectations," Chief Executive Larry Probst said in a statement. "For the December quarter, it is likely the industry will be down double digits on a percentage basis."

The company gave no further details.

I played through only the beginning of Russia With Love and it looked like it's exactly like Everything or Nothing (wich i really liked).
So what's not good with Russia with Love really? (like, what if EON never existed?)

If EA was smart (hey - it could happen), they'd have Criterion porting the Black Engine over to next-gen platforms and build all their FPS games on top of that.

As much as you try and appreciate the aesthetic value of Sir Sean Connery reprising the role, you do feel he is just collecting a paycheck and he does sound too old now for the part. But I still appreciated it for what it was

Its essentially a watered down version of EoN

Its a very good shooter (with improvements over EoN), but not much else, and its waaaay too easy

didn't have the same team that worked on EoN

the list can go on and on. I really enjoyed it because I am a big Bond fan and love the film....even though the only real similarities between the game and movie is the name :lol

Dunno, I think others here who used to work for EA Canada can address that better than me. I only hear the rumblings with Redwood City because it's easy to run into EA folk here in the SF Bay Area. (Which is also where most of the games media is located). Clearly, the EA LA issue was so big it became corporate news, and everyone knows about it.

I don't see why anyone is complaining about cutting afranchise if it doesn't sell well. You'd think more companies would follow that formula. How many bad sequels have we seen this year alone?

And btw, you guys do know that EA publishes Free Radical games?

No. It was a one time deal for TS:Future Perfect. Free Radical is actually partnered with Ubisoft for their next game.

Ah, that makes sense.

It´s pretty odd because I was told that the core of the Everything or Nothing team was working of Russia with Love. I really thought the game would be very nice, don´t know what went wrong.

Everything or Nothing, with its flaws and all, it´s maybe the game that better makes you feel James Bond (Goldeneye it´s great and all but it could be replaced easily with another characters and no one would care or think you are controlling James Bondl).

First it's a Bond, then it's the next Burnout, and by the time you know it, all the support is gone.

Xbox360 and PS3 are doomed.

But if they are the official licensee of the GoldenEye/Bond games, hiring Free Radical or anyone else wouldn't matter, EA would still be making a nice profit off the games, assuming they do well...

Burnout won't be gone any time soon. Would not shock me if BO5 is at E3. Again, sideline speculating here...

Interesting you said that, I got a note a week or two ago that John B is leaving EA, didn't he head the LA site earlier?
